HELP Needed. Had to EXPORT the notes from local notebook "Conflicting Changes" because of upgrade. Now that I've IMPORTED them into "INBOX," How do I find them since I don't know the names of the notes???

Hi all...

So...I just had the unfortunate experience of having Evernote HALT synchronization for my nice stable old version of 6.22 on my Windows 10 PC. Since it stopped the sync... is figured I'd just try logging out and then log back in. That turned out to be a bad idea... since then I couldn't even get back in. Got the "Could not connect to Server" message... or something along those lines. FINE. I chose the option to upgrade. Upgraded... and then it said I had a local notebook... which isn't allowed apparently in the new version... so I chose the option to EXPORT those 6 notes from the local notebook called "Conflicting Changes."

I double-clicked on the file it saved for these notes/notebook.... and it said it put them in the INBOX.

So now after looking in the INBOX... and not seeing the notes I think are the notes that would have been imported towards the top of the INBOX-  HOW IN THE HECK do I find these 6 notes? The Notebook originally was called "Conflicting Changes" I think... and the notes within that didn't really have "conflicting changes" in their respective titles... and I have no clue how to tell which notes are the ones that were imported- that need my attention to fix those conflicting changes.

Does that make sense?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. SO super annoyed that Evernote forced me to go through this. I still couldn't get into Live Chat or Create A New TIcket... as it just doesn't work- constantly takes me back into the web version of Evernote itself.

Sincerely,
Prophat

It sounds like you did export the notes that were in your local notebook.  If that notebook was called "conflicting changes" then the file should be called conflicting changes.enex.  You said you double clicked on that file, instead open v10 and import the file conflicting changes.enex.  That should bring those notes into your online account.

Usually you import the ENEX file in to a new, separate notebook that is named after the ENEX file.

If you imported them into your main notebook, check if they have a new creation date. These should be new notes, so they should all carry the import data as creation date. Sort the list view by date, and you should see the notes.

When I received the warning message about local notebooks not being allowed, I'm pretty sure it said Export NOTES... and NOT Export NOTEBOOK. Just an FYI.

The exported file is called "Conflicting Changes.enex"
When I double-clicked it.. it said it put them in INBOX.
When I go into INBOX... both on the web version and the new local version on my PC....  and sorted by either Last Created OR Last Updated... I don't see anything that would remotely be close (towards the top... say 20 notes) to what I think would be the Conflicting Notes I had exported/imported. The conflicting notes would be from quite awhile ago... and I'm pretty sure I know what 1 of them is. Make that TWO... now that I did an "OPEN WITH" for the file and chose Notepad to view it. I could make on ONE of the note titles.... the rest was a bunch of html/code all garbled together. The top say 20 notes... in the INBOX...are all notes I'm aware of that have nothing to do with Conflicting Changes.

So... any ideas with that new info? Besides going through this MASSIVE file via Notepad?

Thanks again for stepping in to help! Truly appreciate it.
AND... do either of you know why it's impossible for me to get to LIVE CHAT and the option to Create New Tickets... (as I mentioned in Original posting?)

I just lost all my updates of three days ago as the older version could not sync anymore last night. Now, after upgrading, my most important notes just showed up as html and no longer editable except I break all the formatting that I had spent months working on. If this is not reverted within the next couple of hours, I shall export all my notes to Note One  and kiss Evernote good by after 15 years.

Whoever the tech lead is now has completely killed this once beautiful application.

@PinkElephant I tried the URL you gave me... and it does the same thing- takes me right into the LOGIN screen. I'm already logged in in another tab. I'll try to login to the login window... then it just takes me back into the web version of evernote itself. It's been like this for quite some time too. Tried a bunch of things to resolve that issue... and have zero luck.

Don't double click on the enex file.  Instead open v10 go to File -> Import and point to the enex file that you have.  That should pull it into your account.  Off hand I'm not sure what double clicking on the enex file does, but it does not add the notes to your account.  You need to import them.

Correction - double clicking on the enex does import the notebook.

Hmmm ... I just tried and it does look like double-clicking on an enex file should import it.  It imported the file with the same notebook name but with (imported) in front of the name.

Use a different browser, or erase all website data for Evernote.com.

OK... so that worked... AND it imported it into a new notebook called "Imported - Conflicting Notes"
SO.... now, I know I'll have duplicates of duplicates- since you've confirmed that the notes do get imported when double-clicking on a enex ile. Ugghghghghg

Multiple imports will have the same notebook name but with a number at the end like [1].  You should be able to easily delete the duplicate notebook.

sadly... that didn't work either. tried new browser. It cycles back to the login. I have Premium subscription... and I know my credentials are good... and nothing on my end otherwise is preventing anything- that I can think of. (I'm an ex Network IT guy)

That doesn't work either. This is becoming a joke to get support. It tells me I need to create a ticket. Lol... Tried a bunch of field options to see if it would give me an option to speak with someone or email or whatever... nope.

@Prophat In another thread the word is that 6.25.3 let's you log out and back in.  You might download that version and then see what you have.  If you don't intend to stay with EN I would recommend exporting to HTML or print to PDF. in addition to ENEX.  .  Depends on what you want to do with your existing notes.

I upgraded already... which is what brought me here with the posting.

Maybe... but how do I find the first set of imported notes that were imported into the INBOX... and NOT the recent ones that went into the new "Imported - Conflicting Changes" notebook?

Hopefully that reclarifies things and brings you back to the point.

Oops, my bad. Putting a local notebook in the Inbox is a bit counterintuitive.

Why do you think they went into INBOX?  As discussed they should have gone into a notebook called (imported) old folder name.  The folder without a number at the end is the first one you did.  The second import would have created: (imported) old folder name [1].

Only because that's what the dialog window said after I double-clicked on the file. It said it imported them to INBOX. I'm not just making this up to troll. Haha.

OK my friends... I figured out how to do it. It's a tedious thing... but thank god it's only 6 notes. I went into that new IMPORTED notebook and copied the title of one note in there and then searched that title in all of notes. Found 3. One in the notebook it should exist in. One in the IMPORTED notebook. And... One in the INBOX.

I can now manually go through all 6 notes for the same process and delete all duplicates.

Thanks all for chiming in to help! Again, I appreciate it.

I'll search the forum here to see if anyone else had/has a solution to get to the dang Create Ticket / Live Chat thing...  working in the scenario I'm dealing with now for it. Such a moronic issue.

I believe you believe that 🙂, but based on the limited testing I just did, I don't see that possibility.  Any notebook you imported should have a name that starts with (Imported).  If something else happened, I can't explain it.  How many local notebooks did you have?  If all were exported you should have one enex file for each notebook.  Did you have a local notebook named INBOX?  Even then, that should have imported as (Imported) INBOX.

@s2sailor I believe you believe that I believe that.  😄 Thank you for testing and taking the time to help. I know what I saw.... and based on my own search (see previous post of mine somewhere in this thread)- it confirmed it. You can now add that one to your list of possibilities.... if someone else runs into the same-ish problem.

Exactly... which is why we were specifically talking about NOTES that were imported into the INBOX. It actually happened. I figured it out... and marked the solution.  Thanks though for trying to help.
