A few keyboard shortcuts aren't working, such as Command+I for italics and Command+U for underline (although Command+B for bold does work).

Double-checked to see if it is working for me on MacOS this morning -- and it is. (Evernote version 10.62.3-mac-ddl-public, MacOS version 13.6)

I've tried multiple Evernote restarts and re-installs, and it's still not working.

This is Evernote version 10.62.3-mac-ddl-public, MacOS version 12.7. I've tried it also on MacOs 10 and 11, but neither of them have worked (and my laptop is too old to get MacOS 13)

The spelling autocorrection isn't working either.

Weird. Do Ctrl-I Cmd-I and Ctrl-U Cmd-U work fine in other apps like Pages and Notes?

Yes, they work fine in other apps. And Ctrl-B does work on Evernote.

Hi. I've just downloaded Evernote 10.62.5 and the same problems persist: Ctrl-I and Ctrl-U and spelling autocorrection are not working on my MacOS 12.7.

"ctrl"-something ? On a Mac ? Which commands should this execute ?

You probably mean "cmd" - something ( ⌘ - something ). Correct ? cmd-I is a general shortcut for "Information", or in another context for "Italic", cmd-U is a general shortcut for "Underline". Spelling autocorrection is not (was never) available on v10. Spell checking is there, if enabled in app settings, but no auto correct. Both work as expected, making selected text Italic or bold.

In the list of legacy shortcuts for the Mac no "ctrl" shortcuts are listed.

Sorry - I might have steered OP wrong there when I incorrectly commented 'Ctrl' vs 'Cmd' after we had both used 'Cmd' in earlier comments.

Yeah, I mean Cmd+I, as per Boot17. Sorry for adding to the confusion.

I think I have started figuring out the problem. I type with the Dvorak keyboard layout (rather than the standard Qwerty). I just tried switching back to Qwerty, and both Cmd+I and Cmd+U DO work with the normal Qwerty keyboard layout.

Cmd+I and Cmd+U work just fine in the Dvorak keyboard layout on other apps (Notes, Pages, Mail, Microsoft Word), so it appears to be an Evernote-Dvorak problem. Can someone check to see if they also have this problem with the Dvorak keyboard layout on a Mac?

Ah! Nice catch. That piqued my memory and there are a few posts about that in the forums and I even posted in one of them over a year ago.

The issue has been submitted to support in the past, but don't know if it's still on their radar. Unfortunately, since there are not many Dvorak users out there it's probably not high on the priority list (if it's even on the list).

That's really annoying but yeah, that seems to be the real problem. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

I've switched to the Dvorak-keyboard-with-Qwerty-command-shortcuts keyboard layout and now both Cmd-I and Cmd-U are working. So that makes it at least workable!

fellow DVORAK  user here

thanks for the tips about getting this to work

to state the obvious for anyone stumbling on this, the keyboard shortcuts are mapped to the QWERTY keyboard.

example:

open evernote helper is control + command + N

on dvorak, thats the keyboard k key

which doesn't work

however the querty key of N (keyboard hardware key) works

you could map out the shortcut to the keyboard K key, but that's reserved for tagging.

First, I'd love to submit this as a bug so that it gets addressed — how do I do that? I’ve been telling Evernote this is a problem for more than 4 years, now.

Second, long-time Dvorak user and for me it is not following the hardware keys or the key mapping. Whether I type ⌘-I or ⌘-{keycap that has an ‘i’ printed on it}, I don’t get italics. And this is very specifically a problem with italic and underline — ⌘-B works, ⌘-⇧-F works, and so on. [Though, probably unrelated, the new “AI search” seems to have introduced a shortcut collision on macos with a hidden system-wide shortcut for fullscreen. Currently searching out how to disable that system-wide shortcut. But that’s new; the non-working shortcuts for italic and underline has been persistent since Evernote v10.0.]

Third, I suspect this isn’t only affecting Dvorak users. Last time I tried to get to the bottom of this, the closest I could find to any explanation was a bug in Electron that affects only some keyboard shortcuts in any non-QWERTY layout. I don’t use any other Electron-based apps that allow text formatting, so I can’t verify this, however. And maybe which keys are affected in other layouts doesn’t happen to collide with frequent shortcuts. Or maybe Evernote has too few non-US users for it to get their attention?

If you would have invested a little effort into just opening the menus of the app you use, you would have found the support option in the help menu. That’s where you find the keyboard shortcuts mapping as well.

Or use this link:

Make sure to answer to the first automated email you will receive from support. If you don’t it is assumed that the links provided solved your issue.

I know where the keyboard mappings for Evernote desktop can be found. I’m not understanding how that helps? I know what the correct keyboard shortcut is. I’m typing it. Nothing happens.

As for feedback routes: Someone in this thread implied it was possible to directly submit a bug report to Evernote’s bug tracker. That’s what I was hoping to do, since submitting a request for someone within Evernote to submit this bug doesn’t seem to get anywhere.

If you’re referring to the “Share Feedback” link in Evernote’s Help menu, I’ve submitted this issue to that address multiple times over the last 4 years.

I've submitted this through the “Report a Technical Issue” on that webpage you linked multiple times over the last 4 years. I’m happy to submit it again.

I’ve also shared this problem, with detailed steps to isolate the problem, every time Evernote has prompted me for feedback on a new version, probably more than 2 dozen times in the last 4 years.

None of them got anything past an automated response email.

The only time I got any real response was when I tagged Evernote on Twitter, a couple years back. And even then, we went a few rounds of the Evernote representative suggesting I try things and verifying that I’d already done basic troubleshooting steps, then went radio silent when we’d eliminated everything else and it was clear that there was a bug to report.

That’s why I said “submit the bug so that it gets addressed” — as in, how to submit the bug in such a way that someone will actually take it seriously and fix it? The "Submit a Request” website, Help-menu email address, and responding to the surveys requesting feedback don’t seem to actually get me anywhere.

Feedback will not be answered. When submitting a support ticket (the option is not in Help any more, so follow the link I already provided), you will receive an automated answer email. Make sure to answer it - else your ticket will be closed.

If anything submitted is actually put on the devs backlog, nobody can tell in advance.

So strange.  Some shortcuts are working and others are not.
command + N for new note brought up a new note

i typed command + L (QWERTY hardware button which is N in DVORAK.

But I cannot get command + i to work to change the italics

i also can't change the keyboard shortcut for italics

copy and paste work correctly with DVORAK keyboard.

In the new Mac version, very strange, I cannot copy (command-C) if I select text from the top of the note, but if I start selecting from the bottom of the note, text is selected and I can copy (and later paste in an email)

This is a bug associated with the new drag handles that allow you to move paragraphs of text around. It has been noted elsewhere. The workaround is to either copy from the bottom, as you are doing,  or to press shift while dragging.

That makes sense then. I'm not able to select text at all if I drag from the top, never mind copy it, but it works fine from the bottom.

Thanks Mike for the explanation. Copying from the bottom and shift-selecting from the top works.

On the same topic of copy-pasting, it's been 5 or more years that I cannot copy and paste from Evernote to Mail any selection that includes both text and an image. When I select both text and an image, copy it, and go to Mail and paste, only the text shows up and instead of the image there is a "?" (question mark).

It's a big issue for me because I answer customer questions, and many answers contain both text and screenshots.

Will Evernote ever fix that?
