Unable to find local Evernote storage on Windows 10

Recommended Posts

I installed Evernote on a Windows 10 computer last week. This site

https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/208313528-Back-up-and-restore-your-data-in-Evernote-for-Windows#:~:text=If you choose to backup,it's included in your backups.

says Evernote should store its data in "C:\Users\[PC Name]\Evernote\Databases". However, the directory "C:\Users\[PC Name]\Evernote" does not exist. Where does the latest version of Evernote store data locally on a Windows 10 machine?

Thanks

Note: This article only applies to the older version of Evernote for Windows. If you have updated to the new Evernote for Windows app, you can create backup copies of notes and notebooks by exporting them to your PC.

There is a data base in V10. It's not simply one file and I don't know whether you could back it up if thats why you are interested in. Copy and paste the following into Explorer

%AppData%\Evernote
%LocalAppData%\Programs\Evernote

%LocalData%\Programs\Evernote contains program files so not very useful for backup.

The %AppData% directory may not hold a copy of everything. Evernote 10 relies on the cloud for is complete database.

If you're looking to keep a backup copy of your database it's possible to export notebooks to ENEX files from the desktop Notebooks page in v10,  or -for the present at least- it's feasible to install the Legacy version onto your desktop alongside v10 which will then download its database into the location you're aware of.  You don't need to use Legacy as such (apart from maybe checking from time to time to ensure it's up to date) but it will sync along with v10 and act as your local backup host.

A good plausibility check of the data directory size can be made when you have a mobile client with a full offline download. You can look up the app data information - it should +/- correspond with the size of the desktop data directory.
