Updated behaviour of search in notebooks

  • Search just got smarter. If you're in a notebook or space and click into the search bar, the app will start your search in that notebook or space by default.

This will no doubt please some people but for me it is a backwards step. Surely the "smart" thing to do would be to offer users the option to set a default behaviour - search in notebook or everywhere. Flipping the default back and forwards on the whim of the development team is not helpful. Obviously those of us who liked the old default didn't complain.

This is a good reason why designing software following complains is not necessarily a good idea.

Either way you need to take an action, in one case to add a notebook as a filter, in the other case to delete it. If you are mainly organizing by notebooks, you will probably like it, if you are working with tags, it may work out the other way. At least they made it transparent, by the blue notebook displaying below the search field. One click, and it is gone.

No question that could be decided in terms of right or wrong.

Until next time ... Which is the whole point of having defaults that the user can configure.

Anyhow, it behaves now like it always did in our beloved lecacy EN, again another feature coming back, and I like it 🙂

The smart search is in my opinion a step backwards. It confuses me.

Apparently I need an additional click to go from "search in notebook" to "search everywhere"?

Is it possible to make "search everywhere" the default?

Other thing: I love "strg+q".  BUT: Why doesn't it work, if I the editor is activatet? To use strg-q, I need en (extra) click in the notelist....

It would be nice if a setting was available where you could specify the search default as Everywhere or last used notebook

Personally, if there had to be a default I'd much prefer Everywhere. But if this could be changed via a setting then becomes a non-issue as users can configure it how they like

It is annoying to have to continually change the search to Everywhere

Simple default setting today:

- Start from „All Notes“, search all notes. You don’t see a notebook name show above search results. Want a notebook, set a filter.

- Start from a notebook, search this notebook. You see the notebook name in a blue button above the search field. Click on the X on the button to switch to General search.

How many override switches do you need, to make the app complicated, slow and finally borderline unusable from bloating ?
