See video here https://Navigator.tinytake.com/msc/OTQzMzU2M18yMzAyMDE4MA - at approx 25 seconds you can see exactly what is happening.

The EXE running in the console looks to be part of Microsoft's implementation of Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) and not part of Evernote. See https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/all/system32wbemwmiadapexe/5387caaa-692f-44e7-a80f-7dcdfd594898.

But I still can't turn off the popup that appears when I type / and the fact that certain things like and/or at the end of a line simply cannot be typed. Does anybody know how to do that?

I type "and/or" at the end of a line, by typing a space after the "or" and then type enter for the new line. If you do not like the extra space after the "or", type delete and then type enter.

    Works for me on Windows.

Just start typing takes it away as well.

The next release will have a toggle for it.

    @PinkElephant Thanks

I use/like the "/" Insert Something feature shortcut but was annoyed by having to use the mouse to not use the feature.
"Just start typing takes it away as well." is a perfect solution for me.

"The next release will have a toggle for it." makes me happy that I will not have to read the whingers complaining about a nice/useful new feature.

It has been working for quite while now, there are previous posts.

It was the previous posts got me to make my Initial test, which in my previous posts I said, it did not work for me on my laptop.

It get it Grammarly working with EN, I removed Grammarly and downloaded the latest version of it. I think the problem was that I had a very hold version of Grammarly.

Make sure your clients are updated to the latest.
It seems Grammarly only works starting with a certain version of Electron. This was probably introduced with v10.51.

I'm not sure what you mean by hibernate tabs on your browser and how that relates to Evernote. Alt+Ctrl+H opens the Evernote helper - which you displayed in your last post.

I think you're saying that Evernote is now taking control of something that you previously did in your browser. If that's the case you need to change the Alt+Ctrl+H shortcut in Evernote. Not Alt+Ctrl+V.

You are correct. I had a senior moment (several).

Finally, I disabled Alt+Ctrl+H in Evernote which restored the desired behavior in my browser.

Thanks for your help and for being patient with me.

  8. >>>The default paste to Evernote shortcut is Alt+Ctrl+V.
    >>> Alt+Ctrl+H is the shortcut for Open Evernote Helper.

    My error. It is Alt+Ctrl+V.

    >>> BUT, these are built-in shortcuts in the desktop applications. There are no shortcuts in Evernote for the web browser.  The only shortcuts you get there are part of the web browser configuration.
    >>>Can you confirm which version of Evernote you are using - ie dekstop or web browser? If the browser version, which browser do you use?

I am  using 10.41.5 Windows desktop

    >>> How are you changing the configuration?

See below. Paste to Evernote shortcut is disabled. But I still get the popup when I type Alt+Ctrl+V in my browser.

  9. I use Alt-Ctrl-H Alt-Ctrl-V  as a short-cut in my browser to hibernate background tabs. Worked great until today.

Today I upgraded to 10.41.5. Now Alt-Ctrl-H Alt-Ctrl-V is short-cut for Paste to Evernote command. When I disabled it, it still is short-cut for Paste to Evernote command. Changing the short-cut to something else, did not change it.

    Any ideas?

I logged out and had Evernote remove the local copy. Signed back in and problem was still there.

I found a workaround that I need due to yet another Evernote 10 bug of not removing the local copy when I told it to do so!

    My workaround is to:

    1. Logout and exit from Evernote
    2. Delete the Evernote folder in C:\Users\<<your user name>>\AppData\Roaming
    3. Restart and log in to Evernote

Evernote's CPU usage when down from 5% to < 0.1% and disk access when down from 14 mB/sec to < 400kB/s.

Thanks @danio72 for motivating me to find  the workaround. I am very happy to keep Evernote running in background again.

Thanks for posting. This means you had a corrupted note in your local database. Probably the app always tried to overwrite it, and failed.

The database will now rebuild from the server. Depending on the size of the database and your internet connection, this will take a while.

I am on Windows 10 using 10.40.9 and have that same problem.

I logged out and had Evernote remove the local copy. Signed back in and problem was still there.

Until this awful bug is fixed, I will only launch Evernote when I needed it.

  12. I found a file called "Custom Dictionary.txt" in the folder "C:\Users\Scott Willy\AppData\Roaming\Evernote\Partitions\user%3A2109436\".  The file looked to have words which I added.

I see EN is using the same user unfriendly way to keep you from editing the file directly. The have added a checksum (e.g. checksum_v1 = 29a12138c71d45e1e76d37a06517b0a8). EN V8 did the same thing. In this version I used to utility to calculate the checksum over the words in the file. No idea if the same trick will work, but maybe worth a try.

Do you close the app (click the cross) or really quit it ?

Closing it leaves processes running in the background.

I did menu item File/Quit Evernote. My reply was to comment that "Quitting the app does NOT help. EN-Process keep alive to speed up re-starts. " which is not true. I have never closed Evernote the way you you mentioned when I want to quit  evernote.

  14. I logged a ticket with EN support. Their reply is it is not yet a supported feature. @Mike P your are lucky I guess. LOL.

I understand that you're requesting to change the date and time format on your Evernote for Windows to regional format (e.g. dd/mm/yyyy and 24 hour hh:mm).

Please know that we haven’t built this feature into the new Evernote app. This is one of a handful of features we are still considering. Thanks for letting us know this feature is important to you. I will share this information with our product team.

Where it picks up the date formating is a bit of a mystery and is certainly not in EN itself. It is probably either in windows setting, chrome settings or some combination of the two.

Good to know it is working correctly for someone; there is hope anything is possible 🙂

I checked my Windows Regional settings and they are for the UK. I do not use chrome.

I installed by downloading EN. Did you install your EN from the Windows store?

while I can't deny the ingenuity of this solution, it can only be used on one chosen platform. I am actively using EN on Mac and Android and sometimes on Windows...

To be sure it a workaround for the missing feature and not a real solution. But as I am a 90% Windows user, I love this workaround and wished I had thought of it-very handy.

Thanks @cfjrb for the workaround. It is added to my Evernote workflow on Windows.
