  1. gazumped's post in Timeline in Evernote? was marked as the answer
Hi.  Interestingly,  I was looking into timelines recently.  There are quite a few specific (mainly web-based) tools out there if you do a generic web search,  but I'm too lazy to learn and get comfortable with another UI.  Besides for my purpose I wanted a timeline with events that could be 'categorized' so (in historical terms) I could see everything,  or just highlight all the battles,  all the coronations,  the wars,  the presidents...
MSOffice has some timeline templates,  but they work on more or less the same basis as the web sites and don't have any huge degree of flexibility.  Airtable is a definite possibility because it's a customizable spreadsheet/ database to which you can add tags - and this is what I went with initially.  My starter columns are:  Date (of the event) / Event (brief description) / Tags (multi-select column so I can control what I categorize the item as) / Notes (for anything else I think of).

As data builds up I expect to make lots more changes to this initial setup,  and split the tags so I can sort on any one or combination... and in fact just writing this prompted me to add a Where (location) column for the next item(s)
Evernote came in a very close second here,  because I could set up a simple template for each item,  add 'real' tags - including one for the location - and search and sort to my heart's content.  The only problem being that if I use EN I'm going to dump another 1,000 or so notes into my database (one per event) which might complicate future searches.
I can hide the History notebook away in its own stack though,  and maybe banish it to a separate Basic account in future when/ if that's an issue.  (I already use separate accounts for different things and find it mildly disruptive to have to switch accounts back and forth.  It's not a major problem,  but a minute or two several times a day starts to add up...)
If I used notes I'd put the event date in the title - as in "14850822 - Battle of Bosworth Field" and then sort searches by title to get things in date order.
Hope that helps - anyone with other suggestions please chime in here - I could use more input too!  I'll try to update this thread with updates as and when (and if) they occur...

  2. gazumped's post in Table content disappears, cannot be undone was marked as the answer
No problem.  Glad you got your content back.
It's a little hard to assign blame here - we still don't know what actually happened;  and if you read on through the forums,  you'll find we frequently recommend keeping backup copies of your notes and -for important notes- working on copies rather than originals,  or working in separate applications like Word and then attaching the file to a note,  or exporting the content to a note.
Random bad things do happen when using technology - and there seems to be a rule that really bad things only happen to the most important files (or notes).

  3. gazumped's post in Inserting tables was marked as the answer
Looks like the creation of tables is desktop and web only,  but you could always set up a template note on a desktop and (presumably) copy it when using the mobile?  [Not tested!]
  4. gazumped's post in Cannot Delete Note was marked as the answer
The system limits for Evernote confirm note size limits of 25MB (Basic) 50MB (Plus) and 200MB (Premium and Business) so if your 45MB note is 'too large',  it appears you have a basic account and that note must somehow have flown past the 25MB limit without a tremor.  In addition to the other suggestions here,  I'd propose that if you check your account after logging in here and find that you don't have that note,  you should sign out of Evernote on your desktop and then sign back in again to see if that makes any difference.  If not,  it appears that the local database (or at least that note) is corrupt.
Go to your Databases folder (Evernote > Tools > Options > General for the location) Export any Local Notes you may have to ENEX files,  one per notebook and then sign out of Evernote again. Rename the Databases folder to Databases.Old and log back into Evernote Check for that note again! Good luck - let us know what happens...

Step back to the old version (via settings) and you can merge if you wish...
  7. gazumped's post in Unable to Install Update or Uninstall current Evernote was marked as the answer
Hi.  Something clearly has gone wrong with the install (or uninstall) in this process.

User Nicolas Dorier posted this for a similar sounding error - https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/36401-windows-error-code-2732-workarounds/

For everybody having the following problem:

    Error (2732) as installing 4.6.4.
Or .\Boostrapper.cpp:886 0x643 Fatal error during installation.

    Here is the Ultimate Fix

-Go to 'C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\Evernote.msi' and execute it

Here are other things I tried, but I'm not sure about the results.

Here is alternate fix, I reversed the Evernote msi, seen the logs and fixed what's going on.

Fix 1 (Try ultimate Fix above first)

    -Go to folder : C:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote\Evernote
-Execute the following command line in admin mode : regsvr32.exe /u EvernoteOL.dll
    -Reinstall

Fix 2 (Try ultimate Fix above first)

    -Go to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Evernote\Evernote\AutoUpdate
-Execute the last version. (it will probably fail again)
-Rexecute the following command line in admin mode, just to be sure : regsvr32.exe /u EvernoteOL.dll
-Install only for this user C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\Evernote.msi

  8. gazumped's post in Remove date and time for when I created the note was marked as the answer
The created date is how Evernote keeps track of one note order so it's not possible to delete it,  and the display on mobile devices is pretty much none-negotiable.  Short answer;  I don't believe so.  Could you give us a screen shot to illustrate why this is a pain?  The devs do read these threads,  so consider this a feature request made (magic words to attract attention...).
  9. gazumped's post in Evernote is crashing at start up was marked as the answer
Hi.  If you haven't used Evernote for a while,  you've skipped several updates so it may be worth uninstalling and re-downloading Evernote to get it current.  Be patient because that may also involve upgrading the database which can take some time if you have a lot of notes.  Once that's done,  if you're still having problems,  please let us know which version of Mac OS you're now running...
