You know this how? Given the amount of effort they're putting into updating their product on an almost weekly basis,  they still seem determined to provide some level of service to their users.

Yeah! Kodak, DeLorean, NOKIA, MySpace, etc. were probably also pretty determined... but they failed with execution at the some point in time... 😉

Please, give me one example of any software without issues or hick-ups?

In the mean time, performance wise EN starts as fast as Joplin now, EN re-implemented many small features and shortcuts that make workflows easier again,I really like the new unified GUI with dark theme and it is very intuitive to the rest of my family as well. I believe in the global strategy (not so much in how they introduced it several months ago)

By the way, in my latest web version, images seems to be stored properly...

LOL! There is a significant difference between stable core plus some temporary functional bugs on the surface, and poor design of a fundamental structures and someway polished surface.

If you are unable to see a difference, I cannot help you…

BTW EvN is reactive not preventive therefor we can't talk about a strategy... They only have tactics and vague goals.

However, if fast-food alike standards of EvN are enough for you, it's OK. My best wishes. EOT.

This is only an issue if you copy the image into the web version of EN. If you copy it into the desktop version it works as expected. In earlier version of V10 it didn't work correctly in the desktop app either. Some consistency would be nice.

Thanks! This reassures me that EvN isn't and most probably will not be able to produce something coherent and serious in any near future...

Whenever I think "oh, I'll just use OneNote" or "Apple Notes should work", they usually work fine for a while and then something like my new lawnmower comes along and I realize "this was much easier in Evernote", so back I come.

Did you notice, that if you copy an image from web-browser to the EvN -> it is saved as a link to it, not as an image attachment..?

(BTW AN and ON do this properly)

    Example:

I have just clicked "copy image" in FF browser and inserted it into EvN. Then clicked properties of an inserted image...

If source pix is deleted so is the content of the note... (it's opposite to the way how it was done in legacy...)

    Hello, Kolmir:

Which tool have you decided to migrate to... and why?

    THX.  ~ Alan

    Hi Alan,

You can find main info in this post

    Why?

Apple/Google/MS are big firms, maybe a bit slow but stable/reliable enough. With clear rules about support and app lifecycle. And I like/respect their CEOs.. 😉

Moreover, Apple Notes and OneNote are still native apps, fast, and UX-friendly. Their workflows are more appropriate for my goals/needs, i.e. knowledge management and R&D. For example OneNote hierarchy is especially useful to me with: Notebooks/Sections/Note-pages and few levels of Subpages - which I can order as I like. Plus, after reopening ON always remember the exact place in every Section/page from the previous session - a small but nice thing. And many others adventages...

As a bonus: during import from EvN I rediscovered many old useful notes (which I forgot) and also found some new ways to utilize them better.

Just saying that -for the moment- there is no greater threat or risk from Evernote than anywhere else.  If they make a decision to close the server access it will be set months into the future - and that's when I'll start to worry.  Until then everything else is a distraction.

Nope. EvN communication under Ian Small is pretty inconsistent and incompetent. Many decisions are at least strange... No roadmaps, no timelines for beta, etc.

Microsoft or Google inform about an end of a product development mostly years in advance, while keeping support of them for years.

...but it is still working,  and Evernote have said that they'll keep it going for the time being.  There's no clue when that might stop - but then you have the choice either to update or move. And Evernote 10.10 seems to be here a few months after the first launch. Who knows? It might even be usable in a couple more releases. Meantime agonising over what might happen is just wasting time - your computer might crash / your service provider go bust / you could get hit by a bus.  All you can do is deal with what actually happens...

Come on... EvN is known to broke promises... 😉

And assessing risks, i.e. what may or may not happen and relevantly mitigate threats is a pretty useful business activity.

And with EvN 10.x I experienced some of my precious data literally vanishing in front of my eyes...

Therefore, today my premium EvN membership expired. I'm happy and better suited with another tools for knowledge management.

    To the evernote team:

Please please please, for the love of all that is holy, keep supporting the legacy version of evernote until I get time to think about how to get all my data off of evernote.  I have paid you many hundreds, if not thousands of dollars over the years, hoping that this paperless solution would last forever, if not a long time... isn't that what the "ever" in your product name is supposed to mean?

Keep supporting the legacy version for a while.... the least you can give me is that.

    1. Legacy is already an unsupported version.

    2. It's only still compatible with EvN servers' API, but this can change any moment...

    3. Legacy can also stop working because of some new upgrades to Windows or Mac (some say Legacy doesn't work with Mac's M1 processor...)

BTW EvN mostly doesn't listen to the voice of this forum. Moreover, begging a commercial company for a mercy is pathetic...

I think in a year EN will have morphed from being just a note keeping app to a full blown productivity app which includes seamless integration between notes, tasks etc. It will pull together everything you need to do with all the information you need to do it. Much more like Notion than OneNote, but still fundamentally note based and familiar.

This is an optimistic version of a future prediction.
Pessimistic is that because EvN is focusing on only some features, but not on overall coherent (advanced) user experience, reliability, and quality assurance it will simply collapse...
I'm guessing, that we will see something like a mix of both: a nice try, but...

A word of warning about OneNote. Notes created in the desktop client cannot be read in the web client.

Please stop spreading fake news. Your case is isolated. Have you contacted support? Researched ON forums/Google?

OneNote works pretty well in desktop app and in web browser for me and many others.

Strange... For me OneNote sync works better than EvN v10.

I have no idea. I think we're using the most recent version of OneNote. In the browser I can edit some notes, but not all.

There is a possibility, that you're using the newest version of the app, but you work with some documents created with much older version. Therefore content of those notes may still be in an old format.

If not, I have no other idea. For me OneNotes work fine in desktop/mobile apps and in browsers.

This is a problem i have every week at work. It hasn't gone away. If you create a note on the desktop OneNote app and try to open it with the web OneNote app a message is displayed "OneNote is not compatible with this note format" or something similar. It's very annoying.

I use desktop OneNote (full version, MS-Office 365 subscription)

I can also edit my OneNote notes using browser (Edge or Firefox). They synchronize with desktop app in no time. Zero issues.

Are your notes in the current (OneNote 2016) format or maybe in the previous/older one?

I'm also in camp: moved on... but still can help people that are stuck or need / ask advice. Used 10+ year the Evernote application, so I leanrd one or things over the years. In fact I still have and use static Evernote, not all is bad, for now.

So i think it is nice to help people how reaches out for help, is this a wrong thing to do?

Agreed @ArjenC, me too. My premium subscription expires in March, but it's hard to say good bye after many years here...

  15. This in not a bug, this is a feature... 😉

V10 handles pasting of external images pretty buggy.

Such issue was mentioned many times on this Forum. I have also reported support ticked about this few month ago. EvN team explained that this is "by design".

Face it guys. V10 is just a low quality, poorly designed software. Take it or leave it. (I chosen the second option recently ;-))

And you moved to what? I am exploring Joplin, ClickUp, Nimbus, but I haven't found one alternative where the import is flawless. It seems to me that it will be a lengthy move, one note at a time. Then we will end up with some historic Evernotes and newer notes on a second platform, which means losing the great search tool of Evernote to find everything.

There is no one perfect solution 😉

This time I chose to diversify. I put part of my notes into Apple-Notes, most of them into OneNote*, and PDF/files into Google-Drive (priv) and One-Drive* (biz)

Export from EvN 6.25 and then import into Apple or OneNote is pretty good. No major complains.

My approach was: one EvN notebook (or small stack) at the time.

[*] I use full/desktop version of OneNote, I have MSOffice subscription.

Yep. He's right. EvN is no more a premium brand, they are now in mass production business. Providing only fast/junk food kind of services. This will not change any time soon. Moreover, v10 is slow, clunky, and unreliable garbage.

February is for me my last month as an active/premium user. Bye 😉

By the way - migration to the other tool wasn't that scary. I re-discovered a lot of notes which I forgot. I find a few new ways to manage my notes/knowledge. It's good to change.

Hope that in the coming months things will turn for the better... 😀

Unfortunately, this may be a false hope. If you extrapolate what happened during last year, future of EvN doesn't look bright. It's seems that the current team, especially CEO will be unable to deliver something better than this crappy "fast/junk food" version anytime soon.

Therefore this month is my last month as an active/premium EvN user. it's time to say good bye after almost ten years.

With many postings here about dread and misery, I have problems to see structured thinking. The typical argument goes „I have a problem, all is bad, the company is doomed, I need to grab my data and run“. OK, when in panic mode, then RUN …

And what makes you so sure, that your way of thinking is correct? Are you a senior Delivery Manager with insider info? Or complexity scientist? Or mayby just someone with over-inflated ego? 😉

Maybe other see, that EvN doesn't deliver trust. EvN team is unable to communicate things properly, unable to assure safety of data. Maybe people just instinctively feel that Evn turned into immature dilettante company. Moreover, a company which may collapse/disappear soon...

Or they main device is iOS based and there is no legacy...

    What apps have you chosen?

I clip web articles which I want to read later to InstaPaper - it also automatically send them to my Kindle

PDF's, docs, presentations, etc. -> business related (i.e. in MS Office format) are stored in OneDrive and private in Google Drive/Docs. Then I use links to them in various notes.

Most of my notes have been imported to OneNote (full MS Office version) and some (short/simple) to Apple Notes.

As you see I have chosen diversification and I'm happy with. I only miss EvN tags a little, but generally OneNote structure is more convenient for me. The best thing is that when I switch between various notes/notebooks/tabs and OneNote always remembers exactly the last position of cursor in the text. Therefore I can work with multiple notes without any scrolling and searching certain fragments again and again. ON remembers all recently used notes and the last cursor positions even after Windows restart.

  21. There is no point in keeping a faith in Evernote. They will not change for a better any time soon. They updated their business model with the fast food approach. They only care about the most obvious and unsophisticated needs of the majority of average users.

I have already happily moved 80% of my notes to another platforms. This month I plan to migrate the rest, and then cancel my premium and bye bye 😉

W starej wersji proofing działał we wszystkich językach dodanych w ustawieniach systemu operacyjnego.

To be fair, while MS does give plenty of warning, and usually provide a very generous grandfathering period, they still don’t listen to their customers any more than Evernote does. Although they did reverse the course on retiring Onenote desktop, but I suspect it was due to the corporate pushback.

Yeah, but at least they care enough to assure smooth switch instead of unprofessional and unpleasant revolution.. Moreover, as you see, they are able to change their minds. Ian Small prefers plausible deniability instead.

I don't expect perfection. I just want fair treatment, continuity, and assurance. And I get it from MS.

  24. Just a short story.

About a month ago my MS Outlook for Mac asked me if I would like to see a shiny new revolutionary version.

I clicked yes, and in few seconds I sow a nice rework - fast, good UX, maybe a bit too shiny, but working stable.

However, after some time I discovered, that some advanced functionality isn't available yet. But information about lacking functionality wasn't kept in secret. There was a clear message from app about this and that they are working on this. Moreover, there was an option (button) to return to the old app included in the message box. I clicked and in few second I was in my old app - with all my customization, old list of read/unread messages, etc. Everything was as I left them an hour earlier. Moreover, my old app is still officially supported until next year at least. And I can switch between new/old with just one click.

This was a good example how things should be done:

    • a real choice and transparency about it
    • an easy way back without suffering
    • a full support
    • there is a community BackLog where people you can vote on features and company stuffy really engage and comment about progress and future release date
