Ryan_ 1
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello. I am a user who has both the legacy and the latest version installed and used. Today, I wrote something in the legacy version and clicked the "synchronization" button, but it keeps failing. A little upset, but again I found the legacy installation files. Legacy 6.x version: https://discussion.evernote.com/forums/topic/145540-evernote-legacy/ However, reinstalling does not solve the issue of not syncing. If it's causing problems because it's installed together, I tried uninstalling the latest version and leaving only the legacy version, but it still fails when I click the button below. I suggested the function used in the legacy to the latest version, but it's already several years ago, so I don't think I'll do it for the rest of my life. (Synchronize button, edit note information date, remember last window size and position, etc.) I wonder. Is this because Legacy is no longer supported? My OS is Windows 11 or higher, but there was no problem when I wrote it on May 29, but I wonder if it ended in June 2023. I am wondering what I should do to use Evernote again on my computer. I want the legacy version, not the latest one. I have translated the text using GPT. + Google Translation Link to comment
Level 5 Solution PinkElephant 8,838 Posted June 26, 2023 Level 5 Solution Share Posted June 26, 2023 We had a few reports about recent syncing problems with legacy. They seem to have sorted themselves out after some hours. We expect that syncing to legacy will stop any time in the future. But we expect as well that EN will notify users before this happens. Since legacy and v10 sync into the same database, you could simply install v10, let it sync and have access to your notes anyhow. So probably there will be a warning, but not necessarily with a long lead time. Link to comment
ever111 24
My old evernote on windows xp stopped being able to contact the server a couple of weeks or so ago with no notice at all (might be a month). I just now again spent hours doing research since I can use my old evernote locally since everything is on my pc, but I was using the account (clooud (LOL)) for backup. I think evernote made a change in May or June that shut us down, and most people don't have a way to let anybody know since there seems to be no way to contact evernote at all any more. I am a premium user many for years, and was renewed for my yearly membership at $69.99 on May 1. I had no idea about evernote's misfortune. I got in when it was THE THING. I chose it wisely since the old version keeps all my notes in my pc. It just paid off so far. Most people are never going to find info on their problems since evernote requires people to log on now (maybe did before, don't know) to read these posts, due to a google search, I was sent to a login page. I finally after days, did log in and found your post which looks like is wrong in my case. I have made no changes at all. How can we find out if they changed servers, cloud, ip addresses, or whatever, or just shut us out? Thanks! Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 12,075 Posted June 26, 2023 Level 5* Share Posted June 26, 2023 While Legacy is no longer supported - so no help from Evernote regarding syncs, other than probably "update to v10" - I'm confident that they would have issued a notice to all users (or at least those with Legacy still active) to give advance warning and then final notice that Legacy products have officially reached end of life. I still have a Win 10 laptop running Legacy which still seems to be syncing, so I'd suggest that patience, and maybe a restart or two will eventually solve any issues. There's also more help here Tips for troubleshooting syncing issues Link to comment
Level 5 PinkElephant 8,838 Posted June 26, 2023 Level 5 Share Posted June 26, 2023 Windows XP ... we have had 8.1, 8 and 7, then it would be Vista (which we didn't have here yet), and now XP. XP was released 2001, 22 years ago, and support was stopped 2014. It is abandoned and unsafe to use under all circumstances. It probably doesn't have support for a million of more modern uses, and this will go very deep into the most basic system settings (what's the latest version of SMB it can run, for example ?). No, we don't know what may have gone wrong with this piece of old code. Which version of the EN client are you running on this platform ? EN switched the syncing method early May 2023. They still provide syncing for the last versions of legacy, which for Windows would be 6.25. If this date corresponds with the beginning of your ongoing syncing problems, it is likely that it is a consequence of this syncing change. Personally I don't see many options for you, if you want to stick with this old platform. You could try the web client, provided you find a browser that is running under XP, and still allows to run the EN web client. Maybe a version of Firefox will be covering both aspects. But even if it works today, it can stop without any notice, any time. You can contact support here, but I doubt they can do anything about your problem. https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/requests/new Ah, and just to mention it: EN is a cloud based application, and it is not a feature to keep the notes on a PC, locally, and back it up to the cloud. However, even the latest version has a local database with a full set of data, for offline use. THIS is no argument at all. Link to comment
ever111 24
Thanks! I shutdown completely at least once a day, and have done multiple restarts. I'm thinking that there is some connection issue that they have caused by changes. Never got any warning. I'm betting they don't know, there is no way to tell them, and they probably don't care anyway. I'm a cheap legacy user, and I guess they really don't care. Anyway, if i cancel my evernote account, can I be sure I can still use the evernote on my machine, as I've been doing since the connection issue? I use a cloud backup program that is set to include all the evernote files, and db, so backup is possible without the evernote account. Link to comment
ever111 24
Thanks! I was coding up my previous reply before I read yours. I have other pc's including windows 7 pro, and windows 10. I don't need nor want any changes to the xp evernote which is exactly what I want. Been in IT for 50 years. Thanks! I just changed the account password on web version, and my xp can still log on, so I guess I'm good for now. I already paid, so I'll let the account ride, and maybe I'll decide to use it on another pc in the future. Thanks again for your help. The info about the early May syncing method change seems like when mine stopped, and that is good to know, and maybe others can read this thread and know what their problem is. Lucky it didn't mess with my local copy. Link to comment
Level 5 PinkElephant 8,838 Posted June 27, 2023 Level 5 Share Posted June 27, 2023 Theoretically it will be possible to run a local client even if it can’t sync with a server any more. I would not log out however, because a login requires a server contact. No idea about the older clients. As long as syncing continues, even notes created with the oldest client that still syncs can be accessed with the most recent clients. The data access on the server doesn’t depend on a legacy client used to create them still running. Link to comment
Ryan_ 1
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks to everyone who posted a reply. My work computer is Windows 10, and I am using legacy programs normally, but I'm not sure what version it is exactly. I guess I'll have to clean up the legacy and move on to the latest. Thanks again everyone! 1 Link to comment
