How to copy/paste notes with text & images in new EN

Recommended Posts

I have a lot of templates that included text and photos. Prior to installing the new EN, I would copy the contents of a note and paste it into Gmail. The text, photos and formatting remained intact. In the new EN, only text gets pasted. I can't even manually copy an image and paste it into Gmail. How do I now accomplish what was a straightforward workflow? Thanks!

I am on Windows 11, which has its own issues with cut and paste.  I use "Snagit" to copy and paste to EN (or any other App)  it has a widget that drops down from the top of the scene if you move your cursor there with options to 1.) "Capture an Image and send it directly to MSWord), 2.) "Capture a Video", 3.)"Capture a selectable area of the screen", 4.) "Panoramic Scrolling Capture" or 5.)"Grab Text from a Document or Graphic", all of which can be pasted straight into an App.  In all cases, captures are saved to the Library and, from there, can be shared with the most popular software or File types.

Thanks, bmcl26, however, I created and keep the templates in Evernote. When I need to respond to an email inquiry (vacation rental property), I open the appropriate template, Control-A, Control-C and switch to Gmail, where I paste in the copied template. Since I "upgraded" to the new Evernote, only text gets pasted into Gmail; no images. I can't even copy a photo from within an Evernote note and paste it anywhere else. i.e. not into Gmail, Word, SnagIt, etc.

@bmcl26 -  I need to copy, FROM Evernote, and paste into Gmail, images and text (which includes some links), along with formatting, that are in templates that I created in Evernote. Snagit does not figure into my workflow at all. I don't know of any way to copy/paste images and text (with links), with formatting, into Snagit. I don't think that's even possible. In any case, shouldn't another step in the process. This workflow worked flawlessly before the "upgrade."

I am bewildered as to why on release 58 of V10 this has still not been sorted. Obviously the kudos is for implementing the current buzz word technology and not getting basic functions to work.

For me copying and pasting a note containing formatting, weblinks and pictures into gmail does not copy the pictures but copies everything else OK

However I have no problem copying the images individually and pasting them into the gmail.

The version you quoted (on June 9) is not the current one now, so it would be worth updating, if you haven't already, as progress is being made on this issue, even if only at a glacial rate.

Here is a clip directly from EN using Snagit

@bmcl26 - I listened to "Me and my Evernote" but did not hear anything about how to solve my problem. I can't understand what Snagit has to do with Evernote. I use a variety of software and none requires using Snagit, nor any other secondary software. (And I rarely use Snagit, except to sometimes add text to an image.) I have used Evernote for years without any problem. Now it's nothing but trouble. In addition to not being able to copy/paste, it takes a long time to load. Sometimes things I type just disappear.

The rollout of new updates happens staged - this means that different users will get updates at different moments. These moments can be days and even weeks apart.

The current download for desktop is 10.58.8 - no matter what the updater in the app tells. You get it by using the download function on the EN website.

"This workflow worked flawlessly before the "upgrade.""
This basic functionality discussed in is post is still broken I think.  Instread we get updates that faff around with minor format tweaks.  All very frustrating.

All content in v10 is in containers, even if you don’t see them. To copy it over, the containers need to be opened and the content extracted.

This operation doesn’t work when a mix of text and different containers is selected.

There is no really simple fix for this. Maybe the best option is to export the note to HTML. This unwraps all content, and puts it into a subfolder inside of the export folder holding the notes text.

Then import from the HTML export.

Thanks, but unfortunately I don't know anything about "containers." What I do know is that I am exploring the options and hope to migrate to some other program as soon as possible. I need to grab images and often images with text in my workflow, and paste them into other apps or programs. i.e. Word, Autocad, Lightroom, Twitter, etc. Not being able to simply copy/paste is a fundamental and stupid flaw in Evernote. Also, Evernote's habit on constantly updating the app without warning upsets my workflow.

Thank you for your time and help. Don't get me wrong, I like Evernote, other than the constant surprise updates and the fact that you can't copy/paste images. The copy/paste makes it more trouble than it worth ... in my particular case. I now need to prepare myself for what I expect will be a nightmare of transferring to a different app.  :(

I disagree that there are constant surprise updates or that you can't copy paste - but if you no longer feel you can use Evernote then of course you should find an alternative.
