I need Scansnap Manager Evernote Edition software, and it's not listed for download. It's required for firmware update of Evernote Scansnap Scanner.

Gmont

Idea

As the title says, I need Scansnap Manager Evernote Edition software and it's not listed for download anywhere.

My company bought multiple Evernote Edition Scansnap scanners years ago to the tune of $500 each. We've been an Evernote business customer for going on nearly 10 years. Today, for whatever reason, my scanner won't scan. The green button flashes whenever I hit the scan button, and I noticed the Scansnap Manager Evernote Edition software has suddenly disappeared from my PC.

So I go on the Evernote site to download it, and can't find the software. But I do see a help article related to updating the firmware on our Evernote Edition scanners so they can become regular IX500 scanners. This seems fantastic. I read all of the instructions, download the firmware update, and when I go to install the application receive an error (attached) saying that I must first install Scansnap Manager Evernote Edition in order to update the firmware on my scanner.

evernote-error.JPG.4aa1bd2604f9eae32d70303bec8bbf2f.JPG

Unfortunately, this software appears nowhere on the Evernote web site and disappeared from my computer. I contacted support by chat and was directed to the Fujitsu web site as the source of all downloads, navigated through the menu to find the IX500 which is listed under discontinued models, and of course the Evernote specific software isn't available there either. This software should be on the Evernote website.

I am irritated that for whatever reason, the Evernote Edition software removed itself from my PC, that it's no longer available for download anywhere, and that Evernote support never contacted people who purchased these scanners to inform us of the option to update firmware before removing the prerequisite software required in order to do this firmware update. Support from Evernote has been abysmal. This goes to show how much they care about their customers who spend thousands of dollars with them.

Can someone please give me a download link to the Scansnap Manager Evernote Edition? Otherwise we're going to look at migrating all of our data to another provider and will switch away from Evernote for good.

Have you read this help document ?

https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360024050514

It contains a link to a Fujitsu website where is a description of what to do, and what to expect, with all necessary tools:

https://scansnap.fujitsu.com/global/evernote/index.html

You need to install ScanSnap Home plus a special conversion tool. The download links are further down on that page.

The conversion tool updates the scanners firmware. ScanSnap Home is then needed to configure the new firmware. I am using ScanSnap Manager, that does the job as well, but the official description is for SSH, so better go for it as well.

A word about your personal expectations: It is a rare exception to notify users of a product individually that it is eventually phased out. It is normal that technical products reach the end of their support eventually.

The EN edition scanner reached its end of support last summer. The standard ix500 will reach end of support in 2024.

EN explicitly mentioned the EN edition scanner in the initial release notes of v10:

https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360047889234

75501AA0-149E-4826-B8DD-FAD9E8501424.thumb.jpeg.1989791e80fc8c6f5ee06288d8383a29.jpeg

Personally I don’t see an information gap regarding the old scanners. It is BTW the same link in the release notes that I have posted above.

I would now go ahead following the detailed instructions and tools provided by Fujitsu.

Your „ … or we will drop all and everything …“ is noted. Here in the forum are users helping other users. When you want to drop it all, feel free. For me it is the same as the proverbial bag of rice dropped somewhere on an Asian street - I don‘t care at all, sh**** happens. I would just prefer if communication among us users here could spare us all that sort of *****. It is simply not needed.

Ask Fujitsu support if you need it officially. All these tools were provided by Fujitsu as the maker of the scanner.

A quick search with my search engine brought up this web site. It looks legitimate, but it is as always hard to tell for 3rd party sites. Maybe load it to an isolated PC, and run it through an antivirus scan to find out whether it is clean. It seems they have the installer available:

Generally spoken the Fujitsu websites are a mess: Hodgepodge of local and global sites, no clear UI, the more technical sites seemingly a weak UI patched over a file database that has access points only experts for the devices will know.

So I perfectly understand the frustration. But it is clearly all of Fujitsus making. Thankfully the devices work better.

Hi everyone,

After 2 hours of search and research online, I've managed to successfully converted my evernote edition scansnap (2023-10-19).  This may not work in the future date as some of these files disappear, or online installer fails (especially in #2).

Here is what I found, and I hope this would help the people behind me.

1.although the program has ended, apparently Fujitsu just removed the link from the main landing page, and I managed find this page would still has a working link to the conversion tool.  I've also triggered a save on the wayback machine for that page, but it may not save the binary.  If people behind me couldn't find the conversion tool, try googling "SSEEConvertTool.zip" and see if anyone else on the internet has saved it.

https://www.pfu.ricoh.com/global/scanners/scansnap/evernote/index-ch.html

2. the evernote edition of the scan snap software could be found at different locations, usually called "PFU_Scanner_Installer_b19.exe", but in it's first step, it will fail to download in step 1 of 2, as shown in one of the screenshots above by another poster.  To get around that, you need to first install Evernote legacy, found at one of the reply of the forum link below.  After installing it, then run the PFU_Scanner_INstaller_b19.exe and it'll skip step 1 and enter step 2 to download software.  However, since it's retrieving something from the Internet still, there is a possibility that in the future it'll fail just like in step 1 of 2.

https://discussion.evernote.com/forums/topic/145540-evernote-legacy/

3. Once you have the legacy Evernote installed, and the PFU_scanner_installer.exe installed, extract the files from SSEEConvertTool.zip from step #1 and run the conversion exe inside.  Then hope everything works.

4. if converted without issues, go to Fujitsu's scansnap software download installer site and use "Download Installer".  If you try the offline installer you won't be able to find ix500.  The online installer worked for me and I was able to scan sucessfully.

https://www.pfu.ricoh.com/imaging/ssacc/en/start_download_21_GA.html

This worked for me on 2023-10-19.  Good luck to everyone who may this information in the future.

@abhimarx I tried to save the tools - but I am not sure whether they will work. I can’t even guarantee using them will not brick the scanner.

If you are willing to take the risk, this note holds the software I found, and the instructions from the Fujitsu website. I will remove the sharing link in 7 days:

Yes, that is the article I saw, which links to  http://scansnap.fujitsu.com/global/evernote/index.html. When I go to the Fujitsu site and read steps 1 through 3.2 as the Evernote article says to read, I get stuck at step 3.2 because when I run the update tool, an error immediately pops up which is the image of the error in my original post above.

"Unstable to update the firmware because Evernote Edition is not installed. Install Scansnap Manager Evernote Edition, and then try again."

The issue seems to be that the Scansnap Manager Evernote Edition software isn't available for download anywhere. Do you have any idea as to where I might be able to get that software?

Hello, had same problem yesterday.

How did you fix the firmware change to ix500?

Here's the link to the Evernote ScanSnap Software

https://www.linksdriver.com/2019/12/fujitsu-scansnap-evernote-software.html

Note that in my case, I finally realized that it stopped working because my firewall's wifi was upgraded from 2.4 GHz to 5GHz (had the same problem with an older printer).  If I run it on the 2.4 band it worked fine after I just reinstalled the scansnap manager software from the above link.  I did not go through the firmware update process as I ran into the same issue as you did.

This should be a lot easier to find out about....

Hello!

I have the same problem with my iX500 Evernote Edition.

Unfortunately, the given link @Char does not work anymore.

Has anyone an idea? Could anyone give the software (ScanScan Manager Evernote Edition) to me?

Thank you so much in advance :)

I realize that it's been almost a year since this post, but I just wanted to thank you because thanks to this thread I was able to upgrade my old ScanSnap Evernote Edition scanner today to my new-ish iMac and I am up and running for the first time in well over a year! I just followed the instructions loosely given in the previous response and honestly I didn't even read it all thoroughly. In the realm of tech things can get fantastically frustrating real quick, but the whole set-up took me less than 15 painless minutes. I could not believe how smoothly it went and that I don't have to buy a new scanner. Few things spark joy like being able to scan and clean up a year's worth of backlogged paperwork. So, I hope you were able to figure it out, but thanks to your post I'm fully functional again. My 9 year old ScanSnap is running strong like the little champion it's always been. :)

I am currently struggling with this issue also.

I actually found a copy of the ScanSnap Manager Evernote Edition after some digging online, however the installation crashes as soon as I run it. Here is what I get:

image.png.5973e3251e009d45c5624d7bd07199ad.png

It seems like the installer is pointed to a copy of Evernote that no longer exists.

Additionally, I'll mention that I already have Evernote installed! :D

I'd really like to get this resolved if anyone can help revive this year-old post.

Thx

D

Thanks for sharing that page. That is the page that I was following however my issue is being encountered when I go to install the legacy version of scansnap Evernote edition.

The issue I'm running into is with an old installer for scansnap Evernote edition. If you scroll up and look at the screenshot I provided what's happening there is its first trying to install Evernote itself and then step two will be to install the scan snap components.

When it starts the Evernote installation process the installer is encountering some sort of file missing/404 error. I believe this is because somebody had Evernote deleted that file reference.

As an update to those of us still stuck in limbo here, I've heard back from Fujitsu support who told me that this missing Evernote install file referenced in the installer is actually an Evernote problem.

Hopefully somebody from Evernote support team understands what I'm talking about and can somehow fix the issue for us all.

From EN there are 2 versions available for Windows: The actual download on the EN website, and the legacy client:

Every version prior to these needs to be found somewhere else. A good starting point usually is Filehippo:

I already have evernote installed while trying to install this legacy version.

Also I am trying to install an old legacy version of Evernote Scansnap Edition -not Evernote.

It doesn't look like this sofware exists on FIlehippo: https://filehippo.com/search/?q=evernote+scansnap

This page links to the file I'm trying to install is called PFU_Scanner_Installer_b25.exe

^I got the above link from this old archived discussion topic

I just tried again and that exe halts with the following error:

No idea - I gladly own a standard ix500.

You could try EN or Fujitsu support. But for both companies the Edition scanner is a deprecated piece of unsupported hard- and software.

You may try - but I wouldn’t be surprised if they offer what this thread has already told - and nothing more.

Since it is something with installing whatever, you can try to wipe everything related to EN from your PC. To make it go without leaving traces, you can use Revo Uninstaller. If running legacy just make sure all local notebooks are backupped - Revo will nuke them as well.

Then try again, following the instructions provided by Fujitsu.

Hey, so if people are still having issues with this, here are the steps I found that got this to work.  This must be done in these steps.

Step 1: Download and install Evernote Legacy (mac and windows available) from here:  https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052560314-Install-an-older-version-of-Evernote

Step 2: Download and Install the ScanSnap Evernote Edition software from here:  https://en.freedownloadmanager.org/Windows-PC/ScanSnap-Evernote-Edition-FREE.html
(Doing Step 1 and then Step 2 will get you past the "Evernote Download Failed" error noted above.  NOTE:  You DO NOT need to sign in to the Evernote Legacy App.)

Step 3: Once Steps 1 & 2 are done, connect the Scanner to your computer via the USB cable.

Step 4:  Download and extract the SSEEConvertTool from here (in step 3.2 of this site):  http://scansnap.fujitsu.com/global/evernote/index.html

Step 5:  In the extracted folder, find the SSEEConvertTool application. This is start the firmware update.

Step 6:   Once the firmware is finished, move to Step 3.3 in the ScanSnap site, and download the ScanSnap Home app.  http://scansnap.fujitsu.com/global/evernote/index.html

Step 7:  Keep following the steps in the above site and setup a ScanSnap Cloud and connect to your Evernote Account.

Hope this helps!!!

Thanks for sharing the steps

ScanSnap Cloud is the route that you would be taken down. If you prefer the older ScanSnap Manager software the most recent version can be downloaded and installed at step six. A new release arrived at the start of this month so it is still maintained.

Does someone still have the conversion tool available?
I bought a IX500 Evernote Edition, not knowing that it was discontinued.

I soon found that I could not get the correct software anymore and the scanner is useless. But when I googled I found this thread.

I have tried to  follow all the steps, just to found that the conversion tool is taken offline just a few weeks ago.

Is there still a way to get the conversion tool?

Is the conversion tool some standalone software (firmware upgrade), or does it need online activation?

If someone still has got the conversion tool, and can share it here online, it would be great!!

You can try this, but at your own peril !!!

If it doesn‘t work, the scanner will very likely end up being bricked !

I will remove the share in a few days again, so hurry to save it for your own use.

For whatever reason I have created the link on the iPad, but the note didn't show the "shared" symbol.

I have now recreated it on the Mac client - note it is a different link. It shows as shared now either.

Give it a try, would be nice if you could confirm if it worked.

Is there a way to ScanSnap Manager Evernote Edition to ScanSnap Home now ? I looked around and seems it could have been done only before March 31st 2023 , but if anyone has any ideas or has recently updated , appreciate your insights.

I followed the steps listed above to hopefully convert my scanner. My problem is that I get stuck when trying to install the ScanSnap Evernote Edition software. I found (and ran) the PFU_Scanner_Installer_b19.exe fine, but I get the error that the download of the ScanSnap Evernote Edition failed (screenshot attached). I worry that Evernote has finally taken the software down from its servers. Any ideas?

@HPF @pierslehmann

Just made a new sharing link to the note holding the tools and instructions for the conversion of an edition ScanSnap to a regular ix500. I will again remove it in a month.

Note that the ix500 is unsupported by now as well - mine continues working fine with ScanSnap Home.

Follow the instructions in the note. The firmware update can brick the scanner, especially if there is a power outage while it proceeds. Use at your own risk.

- for fear of continuing this thread on a tangent- what do we think/know is the rationale behind the time limited availability of this ( ie march 23) - to intentionally render HW useless is just morally wrong. Though this might be a commercial reason to push people to 'upgrade' under the guise of 'it's too expensive to continue to support the product' *****.

anyway I am grateful to Pink elephant for the quick  and accurate responses.

Fujitsu withdraws software a short while after a device is deprecated. No idea why - in general their websites (and they run a lot of them, both local and global) are a maze of "what you don't find here, you may be looking for there". This continues when installing. On the Mac we usually get a clean app that holds all functions. Not so Fujitsu - every single function is wrapped into it's own little app.

Want to connect WiFi during a scanner setup ? OK, easy - here is another app just for that. In total I counted 17 (!) apps for just one scanner install. Completely ridiculous. If the Scanners weren't that good, this alone would be a reason to avoid them. Too many system inroads for my feeling.

Yeah... Seems odd given the direction with simplifying the app verse and having more minimal, clean apps. It's built in obsolescence I suspect. What stuff that happening to Fitbit owners now with Googles antics. Just super glad I was able to rescue the HW. Gives.even more credentials to the open source front too. I guess I could have gone down the vues an route and coughed up 60 $ for their SW and drivers  but got lucky with the help here 🎁🤓😎😍

Yes, vue scan is basically living on this situation. But they still need a working scanner to do the job.

What is an alternative is the cloud scan option for the ScanSnap. It can send scans directly into EN. I don’t use it much because I prefer to have the OCR embedded into the pdf - this only works when scanning into native software like ScanSnap Home.
