Importing documents

Recommended Posts

I've been an active user for several years, but have a basic question about system-wide file maintenance that has always puzzled me.

After I create new doc using an app on my MAC (e.g. Word), save it to a MAC folder, and then paste it into Evernote, what is the best thing to do with the file now in the Mac folder?  My current view is just ignore the folders, etc. and only access through Evernote?  But wondering if I'm missing something that is probably obvious???

After storing in Evernote, I delete the OS file copy

btw  I'm using an import folder with Evernote Legacy on a Mac
The import and delete are automatic
The word document is saved in native format as a note attachment file

How do you do this on the legacy version?

On a Mac with Evernote Legacy, I use the OS feature for Folder Actions
It watches the folder and launches an applescript when new files are detected

A Windows user would have to advise on the Windows platform

In the legacy Windows client, there is a menu item in the „Extras“ menu. There you simply select a folder, which EN will observe and grab any new document that goes in there as an attachment to a new note.

In this little aspect, I wish we get the Windows solution for all desktop clients when they add import folders to the v10 client.

Specifically In Windows legacy Import folders are defined under Tools - Import Folders.

Thanks for the correct place. Should have looked it up in the English version of the help document.

This is where you find it in the German client:

Wähle in Evernote aus dem Menü den Befehl Extras > Importordner… aus. Klicke auf Hinzufügen, um einen neuen Importordner einzurichten.
