Cannot open Protected Excel from Evernote

Recommended Posts

Yes, I can open - thankfully - with windows 10 desktop V6.25.1.....as I have not yet upgraded to the latest desktop version as of yet. Not sure when I will at this point. My issue is when I don't have my laptop and I'm only using my iphone and need access to this file and can't open it. I have the same issue on my ipad.

I submitted a support ticket but they are overloaded and it could be 10-12 days before they even read my ticket.

Thanks for responding gazumped...

I have the same issue. Did you hear back from Support?

I received an email from support late last Friday 11/20. They asked for additional information and screenshots which I sent this morning. It's good to hear back at least. I will post an update when I get the next response.

Update 2020.11.24: This from Evernote Support

Thank you for sending a sample file.

I was able to recreate the issue on our test device.

I'm transferring this ticket to our technical support team who will continue to assist you. Please know that they are working on your case and will reply after they've had the opportunity to review the information you've provided.

So, looks like it’s gonna be a bit more of a wait until this is resolved.

Updated 2020.11.25 The latest from EN Support

Hello Tony,

Thanks for your patience. My name is Agnès, I've reviewed your conversation with Marlo. I'll be helping you the rest of the way. I understand you're encountering an error message when opening an encrypted Excel file from a note in Evernote for iOS.

I was able to reproduce the issue the exact same way you've shown it, so I went ahead and filed the issue to the development team. They'll prioritize the issue and work on a fix accordingly. I don't have a date to share for when a fix will be available, but I recommend enabling automatic updates so you get the release as soon as it is available.

I can't say they're not responding 😆

I am having the same issue with MS Word and MS Excel files that I have long had in various Evernote notes. I get the same “(null)” error. I’m using 10.2 on iOS 14.2.1 (note that 14.3 is available now) on an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it from the Apple App Store but that didn’t help. Hopefully Evernote will have a fix soon. Thank you for posting about this bug!

I have the same problem. Evernote "v 10.5.7 build 2171 public" does nothing when I click on a password-protected Excel file. Right-clicking and choosing 'open' does not work either. This is an important issue for me. I appreciate that Evernote has continued to improve and the coders have been responsive to user requests for features and capabilities. Thanks!

On the desktop version only, the problem no longer persists, thankfully. (I'm using Evernote 10.5.7 on my Dell laptop running Windows 10.)

However, the problem persists on the mobile version. I still get the "Decryption failed. (null)" error message. I'm using Evernote 10.2 on an iPhone 12 Pro Max running iOS 14.2.1. However, I see that iOS 14.3 is available as an update for installation, so it's possible that the iOS update will correct for the Evernote MS Word encryption issue. I will try to remember to update my iOS tonight.

Gawkeye, I never had this problem with the pc desktop client as I'm still running the legacy version 6.25.1.9091 (309091) Public (CE Build ce-62.6.10954). I won't update my desktop version until I get the ok from Stacey Harmon.

I wanted to follow up.  My issue appears resolved with IOS V 10.4.  I can select a protected MS Excel spreadsheet and open it, fill in my password, and the spreadsheet opens in the viewer just like before.  I have tried it with MS Word and it works too.  I have not tried other file formats.

Hooray! Correct you are. Thank you for letting me know. The latest update seems to have corrected the problem. I can now access protected MS Word files. I will try with MS Excel files now, too, but I trust it will be work them, too.
