opus974 3
Searching for the word "glasses" brings up all notes containing that word, plus some (but not all) notes containing the word "eyeglasses." If I then add the word "glasses" to those notes not found previously, they will then come up in the search with the word highlighted, in addition to highlighting of "glasses" in the term "eyeglasses." Can someone explain this behavior? Thanks! Link to comment
Level 5* DTLow 5,745 Posted July 15, 2018 Level 5* Share Posted July 15, 2018 Evernote's search feature is documented at https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/208313828 I would not expect "glasses" to be indexed if embedded in the word "eyeglasses". Can you share the note where this happened. Link to comment
opus974 3
Looks like embedded "glasses" is indexed (highlighted) only if "glasses" appears elsewhere in the note. Link to comment

Please add further details. What Evernote platform does this occur on (Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, web)? Is the text you are getting hits on actual text, or text obtained via OCR on an image? Remember that in-note search (e.g. Windows Ctrl+F) is different from note search. A note search on "glasses" should not match notes that contain "eyeglasses" unless they also contain "glasses" (except possibly in the case of OCR'd text).. Link to comment

For a glasses search EN will only find notes that has glasses in them, and EN then highlights any instance of glasses in the notes. Create a note with only eyeglasses in it and EN will not find it if you do a glasses search. Link to comment

Once found ,inside the note, any occurrence of "glasses" is then highlighted (highlighting is a separate facility from search). But if a note contains "eyeglasses" but not "glasses", then it won't be found in a search for "glasses".. Link to comment
opus974 3
Thanks for the info. Is there a way to override this and include embedded instances of the search term? Link to comment

See the search grammar page (http://dev.evernote.com/doc/articles/search_grammar.php) section "Matching literal terms". Link to comment
