I have 2 devices, Evernote thinks it's 3 and locked me out

Hello,

I have 2 devices: my MacBook Air and iPhone. I only use Evernote on my iPhone to reference Evernote a couple times per month when I am not at my computer, but mostly use Evernote on my computer.

I would always have to unsync a device and I hit my unsync limit. This is because Evernote sees my iPhone as 2 different devices.

Now I cannot access Evernote on my laptop!

What do I do?

Same issue here. Locked out of both devices - the only ones I ever use for Evernote (MBP & iPhone). With the restriction on the number of times it' possible to unsync a device, the lockout period is for an entire month. Anyone else having this issue, and has anyone discovered a way around it? Not sure if moderators read this, but if so, I'm looking for some direction and support here.

This type of error is really inexcusable for an established company and piece of software. I'm locked out of a tremendous amount of data I need daily for work. This is the sort of thing that not only turns someone away from a tool and a brand, but turns them into a vigorous opponent of that brand. I suppose it boils down to shame on me for relying on a piece of freeware, but if this becomes you get what you pay for, I'm surely not going to pay for it with Evernote.

I've been encountering this problem too. I changed my password and encrypted sensitive notes, but I don't know what has been compromised. I was very alarmed to discover my account has been getting accessed multiple times each week with IP addresses from everywhere around the world. What can I do to prevent this from happening in the future? It's very inconvenient and alarming.

I'm having the exact same issue. Every time I log into my phone on Evernote I'm told I have three devices, and yet I only have my iphone and ipad. Each time Evernote shows that my phone is synced twice, once calling it "my phone" and the other just calling it an iphone, but they're the same phone. This is very frustrating, as it's locking me out of my evernote usage! Any chance for a response from the tech guys and a fix?

This sounds like the issue in which wrongdoers have stolen passwords from other sites (not Evernote), and then applied them to Evernote until they find ones that work, so that you have an unknown device logged in to your account. Best practice, I believe, is to immediately change your Evernote password to something unique and strong (https://www.evernote.com/secure/SecuritySettings.action), and then go to your account page and delete the intruding device.

For example, if you and your spouse share a Mac at home and use account switching to sign in to each of your accounts, the Mac counts as one device for you and one device for your spouse.

You can remove a device from your account on the "Devices" page in your account settings.

There are reports of „Other“ persons entering your account, using account data stolen elsewhere. This is EN is not having a security issue, but if login data is reused, it is try and error, or try and success using this data stolen from other companies.

You can go to the web client (which is never counted as a device) and check from where the access came. If it is a place where you haven’t been, change your account login immediately. Use a unique and strong PW. Do not reuse or slightly modify another PW..

Then unsync the 3rd device.

Nobody is ever locked out of the account, because the web client is always open, even when the sync limit has been reached. By using it you can always use your EN data.

Maybe it is not comfortable, but complaining about a gift you received (by using a free account) is IMHO bad style. If you want to contribute to the development of EN, get a ton of features (including unlimited devices) plus the right to go to support whenever you think EN should do better, just upgrade.
