  1. Same problem here:

    EN Professional 10.81.4  MacOS Sonoma

I kept seeing the greyed out Save as Template despite the suggestions above.

I was able to immediately save as a template on my iPad  (iOS 17). Then after sync, the iPad template shows up on my desktop EN.

There's a bug in the desktop version, I guess.

  2. Have you experimented with the AI-powered search functionality as a workaround for searches with complex grammar?

It was able to find a task I just created that was due today and mentioned a specific person. It actually found the "Things to do" note that s holds tasks not in another specific note.

"Find all tasks mentioning Roger that are due today"

If this could work, such searches could be applied quickly using  text replacement shortcuts.

Anyone else using AI powered search for task management?

  3. See attached.  I looked at my application access list today for the first time in a while.  I revoked access for devices I no longer own (and which were carefully wiped).

I see that I have many dozen instances of access for Chrome (small snip attached) and  a bunch for my iPhone. The iPhone list (snip attached) has one entry with a date.

Why so many instances and should be just revoke them all and start again?

  4. EN 10.63.3 desktop app MacOS  Sonoma  MBP M1

I have an AutoImport folder set up on my internal drive. In the past, I recall that after importing a file, the instance of that file was deleted and the EN copy was kept somewhere in Application Support in Library or somewhere else in the bowels of MacOS.

Now, the file I place in the AutoImport folder stays there and a Finder search does not show a second instance of the file in Library (if I am searching properly)

Does this mean that files attached through AutoImport folder live in that folder permanently and there is no other instance on my laptop?

I don't think tagging is impossible in EN tasks. I put the 🏷️ symbol in front of words that are meaningful tags. [On Windows, Win key + period will fetch the emoji lists, and you can search for "tag"]  So I "tag" certain of  my tasks by putting the 🏷️before ... 🏷️Book_Club  🏷️Next_task  🏷️In-process  🏷️Friends_networks  🏷️Finances  🏷️Freelance   🏷️Productivity  🏷️Waiting  🏷️Aging  🏷️Notion. You get the idea? So to search for tasks that are next in line, or connected with Friends or the Book Club, it's easy. Put the tag symbol 🏷️ in front of the meaningful places you wish to find. ... As well, I found the most used tags in my Evernote and can connect them to the task list. E.g. My tag, "Read_often" finds me a large number of very inspiring notes in Evernote. I made a note titled "Read-often", and placed the "Read_often" tag at the bottom. Now I've made a task "Read through your Read_often notes" before which I place  "🏷️Read_often" and ask that I'm shown this task every week. So every week my task finds the "Read_often" note I made, then I click on the down arrow of the tag at the bottom, find the hits corresponding to read_often and read happily away.  Have I made sense? In short, I agree with the consensus emerging on this page: EN task feature IS worth nudging to greater functionality! A lot of hard thinking has given us this gift: let's make it better.

Very creative: tagging with a tag emoji! @Patricius

    🏷️That's also available in MacOS.

Also love to see custom home screens one day. Imagine a home for each project with its own tasks, notes and events!

@Jon/t That would be nice.  I recently changed from the few-notebooks-many-tags strategy to creating a separate notebook* for projects, all nested under a stack called "1PROJECTS" so it's at the top of my Notebooks list. Each project has an event log and notes. I'd love to use EN's own task function there if it weren't so limited.

*This is using Tiago Forte's "PARA method which I find transformative.

  7. All good suggestions, @MikeP

In a word, EN's task panel is just cluttered.  I need something I can glance at. I put the thought into priorities when I add tasks. I don't need rethink each time I look at the task list.

    Quote

Why on earth would I want a random selection of tasks on my Home page?

And there's that also. The Home page has so much potential.  Ironically, the view of tasks in the fully expanded Home page widget is so much cleaner than the actual task panel. Pretty but pretty useless.

  8. User since EN started in 2008

I've tried over and over to use EN as my task manager and failed each time.

    It needs:

    • more real estate. The fly-out panel in EN for Mac is too confining. Give us the rest of the screen if we want it.
    • Tasks need categories like home, work, hobbies, travel or whatever we want.  It's not a heavy lift: just add the ability to assign a task to a category as well as a contact.  Easy!
    • The ability to sort tasks by name, date due, whatever we want when in Assigned or Due Dates tab
    • Levels of priorities are more than just a flag. I'm using red, yellow and green symbols as the first character of a task now so I can visually see priority  ( 🟥 high, 🟨 medium 🟩 low). Kludging an expensive subscription program shouldn't be necessary

I hate having to use another app for tasks. I've been using Apple Reminders, which has way more functionality until EN gets more useful. I would love the linking between notes and tasks. Right now, I capitalize on the excellent search in both EN and Apple Reminders by using my own zettelkasten method here.

Thanks, Bending Spoons. I'll renew at the new higher cost if tasks can finally be useful in EN.

Given that they're into fitness and photography - and not even in control yet - I can't imagine...

14 years and over 14,000 notes in EN gives me a lot of anxiety about the acquisition. I've been burned by software acquisitions that didn't turn out to be beneficial to the user bases in the past.  Just to ease that anxiety, I've moved one of my smaller notebooks to another platform just to get comfortable in a new environment in case....

  10. Before I make another change with unintended consequences, let me ask:

I figured out how to create more priority tiers in my task list here.

Now I want to quickly filter my list by personal tasks vs business tasks. I have 3 businesses that need separation. I thought about assigned tasks just using my 1 personal and 3 different email addresses.

I have no one else to assign tasks to except my 4 different selves.

But I wondered if there's a more efficient way.

  11. Other than the limited size of the Tasks fly-out panel, my other complaint is the inflexible sorting.

You have flagged and not flagged. I need high, medium, low and "waiting for" as flags.  I know you can use symbols like "_" and "!" to change the alpha sort but that's not visually pleasant.

At least on the Mac, the square color symbols sort nicely by task title from red to yellow to green to brown, just the way I want them. There are also similar circles if you like that shape.

I use a text expander program (Alfred) to shortcut having to fetch them from the "emojis and symbols" icon on the top menu bar.

  12. @agsteele reviving this topic.

Having a dedicated note is good but it doesn't harness the flexibility of adding tasks to other notes as you create those notes..

I keep Tasks open all day now that I am dedicated to using EN for all my task management. I'd like to have a wider fly-out that can be detached and positioned anywhere I like.

I use two monitors. The secondary monitor is on the left. Having the tasks on the left of a left monitor is not ideal.

@EverNote This is a pretty basic UX request to make using EN for task more attractive.

I think my search results are always whatever I sorted the last search results on. I usually have it sorted by 'Date updated descending' and it always maintains that sort order for each search. I tried just now and changed the search result note list to 'Created date' and then did another search and the sort order remained at 'Created date'.

This is on Desktop (on a Mac too).

I tried it again several times and my "created" sort is not sticky at all. Each search reverts back to alpha sort on Title. @Boot17

  14. Forgive me if someone else has posted this. I searched and didn't find a solution.

Pinned note sof the Home page are a great feature. The problem is that it takes a couple clicks to open the note: one of the ellipsis/three-dots and then one on the "open note" in the drop down.

I wish just a single click anywhere on the note would open a pinned note.

One solution:  on the actual note, simply get the app link for the note and place it at the top of the same note. Then you can click on the app link once and the note opens up.

    Example attached
