  1. Existential questions about Evernote aside 😀 and back to the original and specific problem that  @david_woznyorg asked about... I endorse @MikeP's suggestion as a first step.  If the problem does indeed exist on the web client too, my next question is, are these tasks saved your default task note (settings/tasks/select a note).  If so, you might try creating a new note to use for default tasks, and change this setting to that new note.  Then delete the original task note (assuming there are no more tasks in there that you want to save - if there are you will need to move them first).  See if the problem goes away.

spoke too soon. I now have to login again if I have closed the browser. Somebody has obviously decided they need to upgrade security  - this issue and forcing me to have a stronger password

@MikePI also notice that the "remember for 30 days" checkbox no longer appears on my sign in screens.  It's a minor inconvenience to have to pull out my phone whenever I use the web version, but for me it's not a big deal.  I'm on the desktop client 99% of the time.

  3. I don't entirely understand your use case so this might not be helpful...  but in case it is...

Have you tried going about it the other way?  Instead of starting in the calendar, start in the note.

Let's assume you have made a calendar entry in the past, say for a call or Zoom and now you' are about to start the session.  Go to the note in your Meetings and Calls notebook where you want to take notes.  Use the + menu item or the slash command to add the "calendar event" for the meeting you are taking to the note. Then, when you click on the note icon that appears in the calendar event for the meeting, you will be taken to that note.

It sounds more convoluted than it really is.  I have a template I use for meeting notes.  At the bottom of the template, I have this to remind me to take the extra step:

(It's not that big in real life!)

    Hope this is helpful.

  4. "Considered secure" (I wonder by whom) or not, it's possible, perhaps likely, that your old password was compromised.  I can't remember where I read this - or it might have been an interview with Federico -  but my understanding is that Evernote checks user passwords against the Have I Been Pwned database or a similar service. My understanding is that, if the login credentials you are using have been reported by that service to have been compromised in a data breach somewhere, Evernote will require a password change.

In any event, I myself am quite happy that Evernote goes to such "paternalistic" lengths to keep bad actors out of the Evernote servers.

  5. What happens if you put your computer clients aside and one of you try sharing a note using the web client and your partner viewing the shared note from his or her web client?  That will eliminate problems with local clients from the picture.

Also, I assume you are sharing by using the email address option in the sharing dialog box and not by using the link option?  Maybe try the link option as a test and see if the behavior is any different?  I would try that on both the web client and your device client.

I'm wondering if one or the other of you has some weird connectivity issue: any new routers, VPNs, ISP, etc., in the picture?  Maybe take a laptop, go to a cafe, get some coffee and a donut, and see if things work outside of your normal Internet provider? Try some of these same tests.   Even if it doesn't make any difference, at least you will have gotten a good cup of coffee and a donut!

Also, just for general info, what versions of Evernote clients are you using on what operating systems and versions?

  6. It would be helpful for the experts here (I'm not one of them)  to know what version of Evernote you're running and what operating system versions you are on.

Meanwhile, to start troubleshooting, first, check the web client.  Is it the notebook or stack there?  The web version is essentially a direct view into what is on Evernote's servers.

Second, if the notebook is not there on the web client, try recreating the notebook using the web version.  Did it work?

If you can make and view notebooks all on the web client, then it's likely some kind of weird syncing issue.  If you cannot make and view notebooks on the web version, then something more fundamental is going wrong.  If that's the case, I think it's likely you will need support.

If the web version works, the "standard" advice for syncing problems is generally to delete Evernote.  I would start with the computer for now and put Evernote Android aside for now.  Delete Evernote using Appcleaner (Mac) or Revo Uninstaller (Windows).  Reinstall by downloading the installation file from the Evernote web site, not the Windows or Apple store.  Leave your system open and running to give time for the new copy of your database to download.

If you think you may have information on your local clients that has not been synced with the server, there are some additional steps you should take to avoid losing that data.  I'm not qualified to advise about that since I've never had the issue.   There are numerous posts posted here on what to do that you should be able to find by searching.

Or wait for someone more expert to come by.  They may have other ideas.

    Good luck,

  7. Well, a quick personal anecdote.  Yesterday I had a medical appointment at a place I have been to infrequently.  I opened Google maps, entered the name of the facility, got the result, and off I went.  But when I arrived at the address, there was no sign of the office I was looking for.  And I had left the paper that listed the address at home.

I thought to myself, "Was I smart enough to scan that info sheet into Evernote?"  So I opened Evernote on my Pixel 6.  OH NO -- it's a new opening screen!!  Now a video starts, *****!  I killed the video.  Hey, there's the search button.  Typed "endoscopy."  Immediately a note with a pdf appears.  Uh oh, now I have to open the pdf.  I tap on the link.  The pdf immediately opens and displays.  Turns out I was at the right place but the wrong side of the building.

My point: In this very stressful situation, I was able to find what I needed, when I needed it, without having seen that UI before, and, all-in-all, I had a much faster experience than I can recall having with Evernote Android before.  Yay, Bending Spoons.

So, I'm just fine with the new UI.  Despite what I might think about colors, font choices, location of boxes, greetings...  the tool just worked when I needed it.

(And I recognize that others' experience may differ.)

  8. And to elaborate a tiny bit on  @gazumped's comment, on my Win 11 system the Win+Shift+S command puts the clipped area into the clipboard all by itself.  So it's very easy to paste the info where it's needed.  Not quite the same thing, but a function that I use multiple times a day myself, and I find myself not missing the function built into Evernote that Win 11 has hijacked -- at least not enough to spend many of my own brain's CPU cycles worrying about it.   Of course, other may differ.

  9. @gazumped, I notice that @carla cohen mentions that she is using the web version.

Carla, have you tried accessing your account from outside your office?  Perhaps try using a mobile device from a cafe with good Wi-Fi?

If you can reach your account from outside the office, the next step, IMO, would be to ask your IT people for help.  They may be blocking access to Evernote for security reasons.

  10. In case it is helpful, I find that the speed of saving an article using the share function on Android (as @PinkElephant describes) varies greatly depending on which device I am using.  On m Pixel 6, a pure Android phone about a year old, the share happens within a couple of seconds.  But on my Samsung tablet which is now four years old, the save can take two or three minutes.  Other functions on the Samsung are also very much slower -- for example, "sync now" on the Samsung takes a long time but on the Pixel sync completes within a few seconds.

My conclusion is that, on Andorid, hardware can make or break the usability of Evernote.

  11. In addition to @gazumped's suggestion, on the Chromebook, are you using the Android client or the web client?  If you have been using the Android client, log into your account at www.evernote.com and see if the note is there.  The web client lets you essentially look directly at what is on Evernote's servers.  The note might be missing on the Android client due to some kind of sync issue, but still may be viewable on the web client.  If it's not on the web client, it's not on Evernote's servers.

  12. If you're in the US, because everything you do at work belongs to the company, including making records about who you are meeting with and when.  And it also sounds like your IT folks aren't being as rigorous as maybe they should be to protect the security of the company's system and its intellectual property.

BTW, I'm a semi-retired "suit," not an IT pro.  If my IT staff were allowing older software to connect to my system without admin approval, I would be looking for new IT staff.

Only in Legacy. Reminders appear as a separate tab in V10.

That makes it better in my view, because you can set undated reminders for several notes, click on the reminders tab, and there they will all be -- three, four, five of the most important notes to whatever the notebook topic is.

    So, advantages and disadvantages.

  14.

Sorry for disappearing.... I've been traveling.  As @Jon/t said, look at the web version.  That way you're looking as directly as you can into Evernote's servers.  Whatever is there is what will sync down to your local devices.

Corrupted data files on a local client, like the Mac app, occur, and can generate all kinds of symptoms.  That's why folks who are more expert than I am (like Jon!) recommend doing a full uninstall and reinstall.  And use Appcleaner to do it.  That way all of the local data from Evernote is gone; you get a fresh installation of the master program, and you get a fresh copy of your data mirrored down to your local device.

You could have some weird thing going on that this won' resolve which would require you to contact support.  But one of the first things support will ask you to do is this complete uninstallation, so you don't lose anything by trying this yourself.

    Good luck,

    Vinnie

  15. The corruption could have come when you opened the Legacy note in V10 for the first time - the file formats for the two versions are different and Evernote updates the format the first time you open a Legacy note.  Or the corruption could be unrelated to that and was pre-existing or occured after you transitioned to 10,  In any event, you'll likely need to delete the app and reinstall to get rid of the corrupted local data.  Use Appcleaner to do a complete uninstall; the normal uninstall will not get everything.  Download a new version from Evernote.com so you're assured of getting the latest version.  Avoid using the Apple Store for the download since the store version lacks some capabilities.  I'm not a Mac user, though, and there are a number of folks here who are and who have a lot of expertise.  They may weigh in with an alternate suggestion.

There are lots of threads in the Mac section that go into great detail about this.  You might want to browse around there.

    Saludos,

    Vinnie
