A roadmap would help assure users which features are returning. For those features that will never return, well, it’s better to be honest with people than to string them along to the point of frustration.

We all may be over-reacting (or under-reacting). Problem is that we do not know either way. If most of those features are coming back really soon, then we are panicking for no reason but all of them are going away then we have every right to speak up now before it is too late. But we do not know the plans right. Communication and a roadmap will go long ways right now as a lot of premium members are disappointed to say the least.

What's the point of having two EN side by side?

Here is my analogy for it to lighten the forums a little. :)

V10 is the beautiful girl friend with horrible conversation and personality. She is awesome to look at and admire. You wish she was different, you wish she brings more to the table besides being pretty. You want meaningful conversation and no drama.

Legacy version is the cool girl who is always there for you and takes care of you. She does not have the new dark dress like the new girls out there has, but she has been there for you since the beginning and she has been somewhat reliable. She is what you need in your life vs. what you want (V10).

So you still wanna look at V10 once in a while to wish for what your life could be with her, then you go back to reality to legacy version.

I mostly want to know, and get assurance, that there are plans and actions being taken to make v10 awesome, as intended, and by when???  And roughly how long do v6.25 users have before EN turns it off/stops supporting it???

Two very solid, good points. I would like to inquire about these as well.

V10 looks good but I don't think it is a solution for a power user. It won't be too long before heavy users will start looking for alternates as a back up plan. I started that process for the first time and I must say Nimbus looks like everything I want Evernote to be. So it can be done!

I am sure there will be features added to V10 but I am hoping that the speed of the app will drastically improve before then. The core idea behind Evernote is you can dump everything and retrieve quickly in a systematic way. If I am waiting for it to think, load, refresh, it is going to get very frustrating to search among 30K notes.

I have dumped my entire EN catalog into Nimbus

Wow Nimbus looks like what I want Evernote to be! This is the first time I have downloaded the app and am really testing it out.

I know this is Evernote discussion and I have been a dedicated fan for years but I, for the first time, am looking for an alternate in case V10 does not get better. I am sure support for 6.25 is going to go away sooner or later and also let's face it, even when 6.25 was the latest version the focus and support was not great, now it will be sooo in the backburner for their team.

It's nice to think that one piece of tech will do everything, but 1) you end up pounding a lot of square pegs into round holes, and 2) there isn't much difference in clicking between tabs in one software vs clicking into different software.

↑ This is really a good way of summarizing productivity apps and workflow. A lot of apps claim to do it all or try to cover too much. I don't mind switching as long as you have a rule of which app is handling what for you. As long as you don't have to look for something in two places,  you can have as many apps as you want.

Longer term, I am reevaluating my entire workflow.

I think a lot of us are doing this right now which is unfortunate as I was not even thinking about that during V6.25. :)

  5. First, I cannot get into the note to edit if I selected the note with the keyboard. You could hit F2 and would edit the title in the legacy version and then tab your way into the note editor with having to use a mouse. It would be nice if you hit ENTER while the note is selected in the note view and you get inside the editor.

With the V10, I select the note title with the mouse, let's say that is fine. Then I tab, and I am in the note editor, fine again.

I type in the note, I SHIFT TAB back to the title. So here is the issue, if I tab I can get back into the note editor, but if I SHIFT TAB again, now I am in the INSERT on the right top which is useless at this time because you cannot select it.

So since I got here with SHIFT TAB from the title, TAB should move me back to the TITLE right? Wrong. Now I hit tab, it moves me somewhere by the REMINDER. I say somewhere since the REMINDER is not BLUE BOXED but I can hit space and the reminder screen pops.  But I cannot select with the keyboard again so useless.

Next tab would move me to the TAG field. After that no matter what you do TAB or SHIFT TAB you are not getting back to the title.

I would expect if you TAB → one way, then SHIFT TAB ← should move you through the same steps.

And allow me to select INSERT too please.

Another issue, if I hit F3 in the note, I get to the tag area (sometimes) but then autofill does not work. I have to SHIFT TAB to the tag icon then back with TAB then it will autofill.

  6. This is a good, productive idea vs. most of the complaining we have been doing (including me).

Yeah, I am sure there were reasons for the removed features for the time being and some of them will come back. But hearing it from Evernote directly would go a long ways for sure. People want to know where it is going even without dates. We waited for this release almost 2 years since the announcement of good things coming etc. I am ok with not having dates assigned to the roadmap.

  7. I really do want to like it and use it. Looks really good cosmetically especially with the dark mode. Card view looks nicer too.

The ability to TAB your way into different areas of the screen for keyboard shortcuts is great too (although it does not work all the way)

But other than these visuals I cannot really find anything that is working with my workflow. I have almost 29,000 notes so Evernote is a HUGE part of my life, work and personal.

The sluggishness is killing it. I cannot really create notes as fast I used and even when I paste a screenshot into it, I am waiting for the pop up screen to go away.

My keyboard shortcuts that makes it so fast for me is either mostly gone or does not work all the time. For example, F3 to tag does not work all the time when I am in the note editor. It feels like I could have used a visual upgrade to the 6.25 with the dark mode and some tweaks and would be happy with it. Right now, it again feels like A LOT of features have been removed and what replaced them or what has improved is not really making up for those.

Searching may be faster with recommendations etc. but if the note does not load up as quickly, how good is that? Or if I cannot switch from note to note quickly, again the ability to search faster does not really help.

I am hoping, this release was partially due to release something to the users who has been waiting for a long time and the updates, features are around the corner. Otherwise, I will have to stick with the legacy version too and may have to start seriously looking into some alternates which really hurts me because I really am a big fan of Evernote for years!

  8. How about the speed and the responsiveness? It is super slow for me that I cannot use it unfortunately.

For example, I just clicked a note and it took 10-15 seconds if not longer to display that note. But more importantly, when I try to edit the note, it takes very long to even "ENTER" to process. I hit enter, and the cursor blinks for a while then goes down. Then I start typing, words start to appear with a very noticeable delay.

For example, I type "TESTING" I would finish typing the word, then wait the word appears!

Is this just me? Did anybody notice any slowdown?

There are quite a lot of keyboard shortcuts listed in the actual article "Keyboard shortcuts in Evernote for Windows (https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/209004807), that are listed as "Not available" in the new version...

Thanks for sharing this list. Wow, there are a lot of shortcuts removed which is challenging for someone like me who loves the keyboard shortcuts.

Good news is that you can move around the app with the TAB to anywhere. This used to be an issue. For example, you couldn't get to the REMINDER button in the old version with the keyboard. Now I can get there, I cannot set the reminder with the keyboard yet but I am sure that will be fixed or I just couldn't figure it out.

Again, I can get to the note I want with the keyboard, but I was not able to get "inside" the note to type. I can go to the "INSERT" button with the keyboard but cannot do there anything either. Would be nice to bring the F2 back so once you select the note, you can get to the title then TAB your way into the body of the note.

One thing I used a lot was CTRL + ; which gave the date and time. The one they listed as DATE & TIME (CTRL + ALT + D) only gives the date so far.

Love the F11 full screen of course.

CTRL + ALT + T for the tabs went away which is not a big deal but something I used to use.

  10. F6 used to go to the search box, I can't get there as quickly as I used to. That is the 1st think I noticed. Otherwise I love the way it looks, having dark mode etc.

F3 for tagging works which is nice.

F2 for title editing does not work. But CTRL + TAB does the trick, so not a big deal there.

CTRL + D does not work, which is a big deal for me but the formatting tools are different now, so I need to play with it more.

CTRL + SHIFT + H for highlighter works.

Keyboard shortcut for Insert and formatting items will be highly anticipated for me.

Don’t know much about that, sorry. Maybe it is time to use your browser while at work to access your own account? Is there a local drive or is it all on the server?  What device do you use for access?  Have you discussed this with them?

→ I have been using the web version, which is nice with the new beta changes however still very slow for my style. I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts and switching between notes and search etc. The load times between the notes is not cutting it for me in the web version. On a plus side, it let me see the new changes first hand that will be coming to all the apps and the search got way better feels like with the auto suggestions on the tags etc.

→ There is a local drive but nothing on it basically, everybody logs onto the remote desktop server to access apps and do their work.

→ It is a Dell laptop I use to access the remote desktop

→ Not yet, just finished the 1st week so maybe later on.

  12. Thanks to you both.

    Follow up question..

So with my new company, they installed the windows app on the remote desktop so I don't have a lot of control over that at all. I don't have admin access for example.

Can I select what folder (the one I can delete) Evernote to create the database file? Better, can it save it to the local computer? So operate Evernote on the remote desktop but database file is on my local hard drive.

Or do selective sync with the desktop app? Is that possible?

And I would still like someone to clarify why this comp was for US residents only...?I would have hoped being a paying customer for 10+ years would have counted

Shane had responded to this before:

"We've received a lot of questions as to why the contest is restricted to the US. We would have loved to have everyone participate but unfortunately the rules for contests vary greatly by country and within that, by locality within countries. Therefore, it is unfeasible for Evernote to comply with all global regulation required to run a worldwide contest. That said, we greatly value everyone's input and encourage everyone to share their home dashboards!"

I have just joined this forum to ask a similar question. Looking at the replies they are just saying the local app is better rather than saying why it is better. I ask because I have now used both albeit for taking and filing notes on the move and having upgrading my laptop I went straight to the web version before installing the local app and I can't see anything really missing except maybe customising the layout a bit.

The web app is missing a lot of keyboard shortcuts I use in the desktop version. To me that is a big deal, for others it may not be.

One of the versions of the web app does not show the PDF files, it only shows the icon so you need to open it up in a new tab to see what the tab is. The new version is similar to the desktop so you can see it within the built-in PDF viewer but that version was soooooo slow for me on my last laptop so it was not working out.

When you insert an image to your note, the web app was dropping it to the bottom of the note instead of where I wanted it to be. The Copy past of images was not working for me on the web app either.

The new web app version did not allow me to clear reminders so I had to switch to the old version there again.

I am not sure if the desktop app is better but it definitely works better for my style and workflow.
