@PinkElephant Thanks, I still prefer backing up things manually, time machine is not a reliable option for me. Unfortunately it's still impossible to select more than 50 notes at a time,s o for my list of 300+ notes, I have to export in batches. The folder structure indicated by @DTLow doesn't exist on my mac, no Evernote folder there.

@PinkElephant Export in evernote has become a problem, no way to select all notes in one go, and export them. There is a maximum of 50 atm. Could you please share where is the EN data folder located on a Mac?

Problem is if you do that, all formatting (bold, italic, etc.) is lost. This is clearly not acceptable. Instead, I just want to modify the font size, and keep the formatting in place.

When calling out a new search via click of keyboard shortcuts, either globally or within one note, I would expect the existing text box text to become selected by default, so if I just type in the new query, the old one gets deleted automatically. That's a standard behaviour and it's the way it works on Chrome and Firefox, for example. Instead, on Evernote I have to select the existing query and delete it first, otherwise as I type the new one, it's going to merge with the existing and obviously no results are going to be displayed. This should be fixed. 95% of the times, people want to perform a new search, not refine an existing one. I am pretty sure analytics would confirm that. A proper solution to this issue would be to select the search query when the search overlay is called out, so if the user starts typing, the old query would disappear, and if the user wants to edit it, they can press an arrow key and do what they want with the existing query.

Thanks for the heads-up. I did try it but didn't work, was not aware the equal sign must be used, instead (and wonder why, it's actually not fully consistent with standard browser behaviour).

I don't hate the new Evernote and overall I find lots of improvements, even though a few things really annoy me (see below). I am luckily not among those who had their workflows broken, e.g. I hardly use tags, but I do understand the frustration of the many power users who feel like they've been abandoned. The latest post from the CEO sounds promising, and while they've made some mistakes, it doesn't seem to me that they are ignoring their customers; I have some hope that a lot of what is infuriating people is going to be addressed soon. I personally find the new Mac version better overall, it's much cleaner and search is finally prioritising matches with notes titles. In-note search is also much better, as it supports a queries made of multiple words. That said, there's still a couple of things that I see as red flags, and others that I find frustrating: - I welcome the idea of having just four styles (normal text, 3 headers) apply to all my notes and making them look cleaner. The problem is that all the existing content has now been tagged as "normal style", and modified accordingly. My notes are not looking more consistent, but they are harder to read compared to my previous base style (Helvetica 16, which was still a bit too small on my iMac). While others find this new font size too big, I would actually like to convert the base style to 20 dp, sans serif. The problem is that nowhere can the user choose what the font size (and typeface) for this default styles should be. In order to modify normal text to 20 dp, the only option I have is to select the "Update 'normal text' to match" command, but if I do that, all content gets updated accordingly, and any bold/italic text is going to loose its formatting (luckily, cmd + Z also applies, but I had a backup, just in case!). An alternative option is to select all text and increase the font size, but guess what, all the line breaks would maintain the standard 16 dp size, which means, every time I add new content somewhere in the note, it would be a 16 dp font. - Export: this is another deal breaker. I don't want Evernote to become a walled garden. Even though I found reassuring to hear the comment from eric99 about the enex format being relatively easy to handle, I find it preposterous that in the new version, I cannot export to HTML. The new release page promises more export options, so hopefully HTML is going to be back, together with the possibility to add more than 50 notes. I would also appreciate being able to export to an open format: as long as Evernote will continue to be a great piece of software and allow me to export easily and in multiple format migrating is not something that I would consider. On the contrary, what is making me think of alternatives right now, is having all my existing content stuck into a proprietary format. - Tabs have been removed. While the way they used to work made them almost useless, I see how I could benefit from having multiple notes open at the same time, e.g. if I want to copy/paste content from one note to the other. The best way to implement this, in my opinion, would be to add a contextual option to "Open in a new tab" next to "Open in new window". The new tab would have the name of the note, and be fully independent and separated from the search results it comes from (if any). - Anchors within notes: this is a feature that I wish will be available one day. I don't want to have a million notes so I rather have a few of them (still more than 300 actually!), but many of them have separate sections, with dividers and headers to easily recognise them. I would like to create anchors so I can easily jump to a specific section within the note. I'd be fine with a dropdown, even if that would mean two clicks, still easier than scrolling down and having to recognise where the desired section is. A side panel would actually be ideal, and not big deal on a large monitor (just make it optional). - I want to be able to press the Esc key and see highlighted text matching the search query disappear. Really annoying that I cannot do that the same way that I can do it in a browser. - Two clicks to open links: as someone else has noted, this is quite frustrating, and I would like an option to disable that. Luckily it's possible to cmd + click and open in just one step, but not sure if I will always remember.

I'd expect tabs in evernote to work as in a browser. It should display the name of the note that I've selected, and keep the content static. Instead, all the tabs that I have open display "all notes", and apparently, the content within those tabs changes without me doing anything. This way, having tabs is completely pointless. I would like to use tabs so my most important notes (a subset of what's in my bookmarks) are constantly open an easy to reach. If I open a new tab and select a note from the bookmarks, there is no logical reason for the name of the tab to be the name of the notebook that the note I've selected belongs to. All I want is to associate the new tab to the specific note that I've selected, have the name of that note on it, and unless I select another note, it should just stay as it is when I've created it.

This is clearly a UX flaw and should be fixed. I suspect it won't, as the team at evernote doesn't seem very keen on hearing the users' feedback. So I am probably wasting my time here. Thank you for your reply, but such workarounds are just cumbersome.

If I search within all notes using keywords and then select a note within the group, there's no value in having the tab title display "All notes". First of all, it's wrong, because it's not showing all notes, but rather a specific search result within those notes. Second, I don't see why the name of the tab should be based on what appears on the middle pane. If I select one note within that pane, I expect to see the name of the selected note as a tab name. That would help me recognize the note that I need and open it when multiple notes are opened in multiple tabs, regardless how I got there (normally through search, most of the times). While having all tabs named "All notes" it completely pointless.

I am having the same issue. If the content of one tab is a single note, I don't see why Evernote is not showing the title of that note, no matter how I got there. This is unhelpful because you cannot recognize what the content of each tab is, and inconsistent with the mental model that users have of how a tab should behave (browser navigation).

That's a very good recommendation indeed, thank you very much for this useful tip, I do appreciate! I still like the idea of keeping the amounts of notes to a minimum and have some structure instead of generating hundreads of them, but I could, let's say, split each big note into chunks of 5-6 separate notes and then create a TOF for that note. The only drawback is that you can't scroll, but it's still a reasonable solution. Saved searches is also something interesting that I was not aware of. It's great that there's someone like you who knows the software in detail. Thanks

Many people like me use Evernote to save topics, links, and short snippets of text, on a few curated notes rather than importing a large amount of notes and then get an overwhelming amount of information that makes it difficult to retrieve the desired information later. What is really missing though is an easy way to quickly jump through sections within the notes that I have. The way Evernote works right now, makes it easy to novagate through notes but not within. What I would really need is the possibility to select a header/portion of text, or just a point in the note and save it as a bookmark within the note, then have a navigation tree somewhere (a sort of table of contents/note outline) where I can see a list of the bookmarks within that note and quickly jump to the desired one. I would be willing to get a premium account if such funtionality was available.
