Evernote always remembers the most recent window size and position for me.... except when it updates to a new version, and then it often plops itself in the middle of the screen at a smaller size. So I'm guessing you're seeing the result of an update.

It opens for me every f... day "in the middle of the screen at a smaller size".

Funny thing is, if I exit the client and start it again on the same day, then the client opens at the last postition and size. When I shutdown Windows and boot it up the next day, EN client open again mid-screen/nedium size :(

  2. The funny thing about "auto update" is that it generates its own flaws.

In v6 I never had any issues with EN client updates.

Since v10 I get such lovely error messages like "Oops, something went wrong. Please reload." - but any number of "reloading" did not help.
What helps: Shutting down EN client (not just closing it, but manually quitting it), then start the client again, then accept some weird changes in Windows' firewall settings, and only then you are good.

  3. Once upon a time in a far away land lived a young man called Tom. Tom was reasonable and all he needed was a car that met his requirements. Tom was humble but determined. So the requirements weren't too fancy. A decent speed, enough horsepower to get around and some space to move things.
Tom visited many car companies, compared features and prices and finally chose his perfect car. But this car was not for sale, only for rent. Tom accepted this and was happy for a long time.
As the years past, the rent went up. But that was still ok for Tom. Because the car company offered regular updates for his car. In the end, Tom was driving a V6 car with everything he ever wanted and needed.
But then, one rainy night in March '23 the same car company stole his car and replaced it with a cheaper version. Ok, this was a brand new V10 car equipped with three extra tires "for more grip", as they proclaimed. The brand new V10 car also had AI built in, so Tom could now roll down the windows by voice command. But surprisingly, the rear windows wouldn't open at all any more. The top speed was only 50% of Tom's old V6 car and it now runs on electricity while Tom has no charging station. The brand new V10 car features a new cockpit layout, but whenever Tom starts the car, a standard radio station is played at a standard volume - and none of them were to Tom's taste. Also, the engine now springs to live automatically as soon as Tom approaches the car. Even if he does not intent to drive away.
Oh and of course the car company raised the rent again for this innovated car...

Hi.  You're already complaining about code blocks in at least one other thread.  Please don't duplicate that discussion here...

Well, it's a totally different issue with code blocks.
Saying it's a duplicate is like saying each EN complaint is a duplicate to any previous complaint, isn't it? ;)

Also I don't consider my case as an edge case. It is still literally called a "code block", not a "text that is randomly formatted differently" area.
On major property of "code" is that is must be displayed as-it-is ... not encoded, nor decrypted, nor formatted, nor transformed etc.
And sources like xml, jsp or html use a lot of "<", ">"

... needs to explain why the community of v10 users did without it for 3 years now.

... Forward arguments, not the backward view „It needs to be added because it was“.

For a) that's why I used Legacy v6 till the last day.
Side note: I gave v10 a try as soon as it was released. I opened so many tickets, asking to bring back functionality (but all to no avail).

For b) feature XYZ needs to be added (again) because I heavily used it in the past, and I'm not ok with working around now.

If we want to have a discussion about this, it would help to have some specific examples (the 3 or 4 most prominent would do for starters).

For one thing, I don't want to derail this discussion by listing other issues here.

If you want the list of missed features, there is a list of at least 30 support tickets I opened since I started testing v10 (and not a single ticket was resolved so far).

Or just browse the last 1000 posts in forum ;)

Personally, I find it more annoying that Evernote also doesn't automatically make a link when a URL is followed by punctuation instead of a space or Enter.

Well, almost each character can be part of an URL, e.g. as a value of a GET parameter. How can EN know the punctuation you type no longer belongs to the URL?

But if you hit space or enter after punctuation, EN recognized the URL without the trailing punctuation.
At least in my EN client/Windows10.

https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360047889234-What-s-new-in-Evernote-for-Windows, scroll down to "What features are no longer supported in the new app?" Posted at least 2 years ago.

    LOL
You're referring to this measly list of 5 bullet points?
There are about 1000 more features "no longer supported".

Where does it actually state that markups inside code blocks are no longer supported? Please show me @Dave-in-Decatur !

  9. @gazumped, @PinkElephant

I want to say thanks. I really appreciate your replies and insights.

I see that you want to help. Unfortunately my overall experience with v10 is:

    • It's not my fault, I cannot find a missing feature that I used a lot in v6.
    • A lot of v6 features simply don't exist anymore
    • And there is no chance to bring them back.
    • There is nothing this EN community here can do about it.
    • As literally none of my support tickets got resolved, I grew too frustrated to open any more tickets.

Bottom line: I'm forced to adapt to a half-baked application, instead of the other way round :(

Depending on what version of Evernote you have,  try the three dots menu in any note (at the top right).  There's a Slash Commands option that will stop the pop-up entirely.

I'm using EN client v10.latest on Windows 10.

And unfortunately in my client I can only enable/disable the /-hint, but not the pop-up entirely.

have you considered taking a screenshot of the highlighted code using another tool?

    No and no.

No, screenshots are not flexible enough for me.

And no, all my markups (in v6) are no longer visible/available since I was forced into v10. Even if I use screenshots in the future, all crucial information I collected over the last 10 years are already gone 😡

I've had enough - BS didn't manage to replicate basic EN functionality in several years, so I'm just packing my things (evernote-backup) and moving to Obsidian (where I can keep markdown-formatting at least).

Same here. Except that I haven't found a better successor yet. Testing all the alternatives is very tedious and takes a lot of time.
My personal challenge is that I used most of the EN functions (in Legacy v6) and it is difficult to find a suitable successor.

  13. Consider this:

I was using the v6 client for the longest time. In this client I was able to markup text within a code block.
I used that a lot to visually highlight important code changes (like bad codeobsolete code or new code)

Now that I was forced to v10 client ((thanks, Bending Spoons)), code blocks cannot have any markup anymore.

So I ended up having many code snippets (20 to 40 lines of code), and I literally lost the information what the actual code change was 😠😡
