  1. I'm in a very similar position though I have about half the number of notes. My big problem is finding a comparable service to move to AND finding a service that it is technically easy to move to. Please let us know when you have answers to those issues, I'd love to know the way out.
  2. If you have gone paperless to anything like the extent that I have you must I am sure have thousands of notes with attached PDFs of documents etc. If this is so does it not annoy you that Evernote will no longer search within those documents? It annoys the hell out of me and takes away a massive feature I depend on.
  3. I for one am not in an emotional state, not in respect of Evernote at any rate, there are bigger issues these days. However, when I select and pay good money for a product that advertises a certain feature set I expect that feature set to remain available, unless I am told otherwise. I made my decision to use Evernote based on the features it offered at the time, and still advertises on it's website. If an "upgrade" is released, I don't expect to have to then "downgrade" to be able to continue to use the features I depend on and want. If it was a car with air conditioning, sat nav, autopilot, airbags, automatic transmission and park assist fitted and I was offered an "upgrade" I'd not be happy if when I got it back after the upgrade I was left with air-con and nothing else I'd originally bought.
  4. I have no doubt that there are good reasons for doing this. From an end user point of view when the product's primary function is storage and retrieval (a "second brain" I think it was called) if the storage is slow and the retrieval is hopeless, which it is when note attachments aren't searched, then that's a massive failure.
  5. A rant indeed, I agree with that. The fact is that they should NOT be testing a release of this magnitude without pre-warning people and certainly not on a live system with a large user base which relies on it and entrusts it with data that is important to them. I at least am not asking for sympathy I'm asking for developments and new deployments to be handled reasonably and responsibly and with the paying user in mind. This has simply been handled terribly, users have been left with a worse system and that's inexcusable.
  6. I know, it's absolutely pathetic. It is completely outrageous that Evernote can still be charging for a service which is, according to their website, still available when it patently doesn't work. I suppose they will just say that people will have to use the legacy version if they want to use that feature. Appalling.
  7. Yes, and that is exactly what I have had to do. The fact that this is necessary and considered even remotely acceptable is what I find totally unbelievable. I want to jump ship but at the moment I can't.
  8. I just submitted a help request which is included below, I'll let you know if I ever hear anything. Hello, I and my wife have been paying for Evernote for years and been happy with it. The latest update is just absolutely dreadful and I now actually hate using the application. It is unreliable, slow to load, difficult to navigate, has no reliable "all notes" backup option and multiple features have just "gone". I have thousands of PDFs attached to my notes and I selected Evernote, and paid for it, because it would search within the notes. It now won't, so what do I do to find my stuff (10,000+ notes) and what am I paying for? Your website (see attached image) says Evernote will search within PDFs and that is what I am paying for but it won't. Where do I go from here, don't tell me to use the Legacy version, if that's the answer this "upgrade" should be withdrawn.
  9. I too rely heavily on searching within PDFs which makes v10 virtually useless for me. Bitterly disappointed. As you can see from the attached website clip you are supposed to be able to "find anything fast" and if paying for the service search within PDFs. I'm paying for something that I can't do. I wish I could find a viable alternative.
  10. It shouldn't really come as a surprise to Evernote that people want to quickly and easily back up ALL their notes. Do they think this data doesn't really matter to people?
  11. But you would perhaps agree that we should not really be having to do that? It's a nightmare, how can this be called an update?
  12. I am in a very similar situation with thousands of notes and a long time paid user. I just hate the system now. The lack of a viable backup option is a disaster for me, I also attach PDFs to notes all the time but the new version just shows you that the file is there, but not it's contents. I'm struggling to find things, it doesn't seem to search within PDFs any more and it's just now generally horrible. I wish I could find a workable alternative that I could migrate to easily. In the meantime the legacy version is just about doing the job but as things stand I would NEVER recommend Evernote to anyone again.
  13. I couldn't agree more, it is completely and utterly fundamental. The lack of a reliable, simple, trustworthy, local backup facility is no different to putting all your valuables in a secure vault and not having a key, nobody in their right mind would do it. In the meantime, thanks to DTLow I've installed the legacy product and have backed up my material to an .enex file. If the backup option is not resolved to my satisfaction I'm off, I'm becoming less and less trusting by the day.
  14. Ok, thank you, I'm going to do it. Do you end up with two installations and just keep and use both of them?
  15. That sounds sensible to me. Can you tell me how easy or difficult it is to go backwards? How do I do it?
  16. @Wordsgood - I agree entirely, a simple solution is for people to use a diary if recurring reminders are that important. I use Evernote for practically everything but for some things such as managing future appointments etc. etc. a diary is the perfect tool.
  17. It can't do any harm to add another vote for the recurring reminder feature. Ideally from my point of view it would be something along the lines of being able to set a single reminder for a single date as now plus the option to set a daily, weekly or annual reminder. For me at least that would be plenty and if I need to remind myself any more than that about something then I really ought to start looking at the task and doing something about it rather than just setting reminders and changing them
