Web Clipper Now Crashing

Perfect Faro

Recommended Posts

Well, it looked like most of the problems with the web clipper were being sorted (still not working correctly, but better than the horrorshow it was at launch), but now it's started crashing whenever I try to clip anything (not every time, mind you, but often enough to be a real pain). The icon disappears from the extension bar, requiring me to shut down the browser and re-open it again. So, whatever they've tried to do to fix the original problems has introduced a slew of new ones.

Come on, guys: this is embarrassing. You took a useful extension that was working perfectly, and then broke it with a bunch of fancy features that no one asked for. You then waited a week to even admit there was a problem, and then another week to update it to a semi-working condition (nowhere near the functionality of the old clipper, but hey, at this point, we'll take whatever we can get). Now, getting close to three weeks, you've broken it again. This has been a clown show from the beginning, and it's harming Evernote's reputation.

It's time for you to admit that the new version is hopelessly borked, and that it wasn't ready to be released. Pull the plug on it, and roll everyone back to the previous working version. Then, go back to the drawing board, and this time, REALLY test it adequately so that you don't get blindsided by huge numbers of your users not being able to use your product. I still really like Evernote, but this entire clipper debacle has made it difficult to have any faith in the company. Doing the right thing now would go a long way towards re-establishing people's trust in the company; continuing to try to fix something while breaking it further is only causing more and more people to be disillusioned with you.

I too am seeing crashes on almost every clip I do.  Restarting Chrome doesn't fix it.  I've found if I uninstall it and then reinstall the chrome addon that it begins to work.  Only to have it crash the system a day or two later.

Using Chrome 32.0,1700.68 beta-m (now that I type this perhaps it's the beta version that could be messing it up).

Windows 7

Love the app, just wish it was more reliable.

Nope, just loaded the non-beta version and it still crashes.

Crashing for last weeks.

Chrome Version 33.0.1750.5 dev-m

Evernote Web Clipper 6.0.8

Windows vista sp2

re-installing fixes nothing for very long.  sometimes have to change to load full article or full page, but again crashes.

actually page is saved when you go online to check.

i am giving up on web clipper until this is fixed.  i don't see any progress or any sense that Evernote cares to

recognize this serious problem.  adding features when crashes continue is unacceptable.  i will just save to

Google Drive instead.

i am having the same problem my web clipper randomly crashes and I can not find it in the chrome extension list.  Then it reappear. I think after a restart.

I am running the most current versions of Maverick and chrome on my imac.  ( i double checked)

I would appreciate any guidance I really am devoted to the web clipper.

I am having the same problem.  My web clipper has always worked perfectly, and then it started crashing two days ago.  It crashes when I try to clip things, and sometimes when I restart Chrome the extension is not even loading, and then I have to go into Extensions and reload it, but then it still won't clip properly.

Here are my specs:

Win 8 Pro 64 bit

using web clipper through Chrome version 32.0.1700.68 beta-m

Should I just switch to the stable version of Chrome, instead of using the beta?

Thank you so much for your help, as I, too, cannot live without the web clipper!

Hi all and thanks for the reports about crashes. We are working to fix them and your posts with URL and details are very helpful.

One thing that may work better is to run the stable version of Chrome. As expected on a beta version some things are still in development and we've often seen that issues that happen on the beta channel of Chrome doesn't happen on stable. We try to support beta channel but it is a moving target and changes aren't always documented and it is hard to be pro-active in fixing them while they are in beta.

It would be helpful to know if the issues you run into also happens on stable channel, currently 31.x?

Crashes for me every time, too. Chrome version  32.0.1700.72 m with Windows 8 (6.2 bld 9200). I thought channels are only relevant in the context of Chromebooks, not on other OS's. And, FYI, web clipping is a primary use case for me. Having it not work has pretty much made Evernote unusable in my case.

I was running Chrome 33-dev-m and it crashed today with today's update of the dev release.  So I went to chromium.org and downloaded and installed the

latest stable version, which is not 31.x but actually version 33, Version 33.0.1750.27 m .   I don't know any way to install version 31 except by downloading the

stable version from chromium.org, which turns out to be version 33 (stable).   I can't delete the whole Chrome install, only download and install an online version.  I am

on Windows Vista sp2 32-bit AMD Phenom.

And it still crashes.  I see an error log 1-1-2014, not helpful to me, maybe to you, this is what it says:

(the article I am clipping is from nytimes.com, but happens with many sites.  It happens regardless of

whether I choose to clip entire article, a selection, or just the article, or whole page, and it happens

on clipping, sync, or reporting result of clip.  Sometimes Chrome will come up with an error box of

its own asking me to reload the extension, but that still doesn't allow clipping unless you unload the

webclip extension, reload the article, and try again.  Sometimes the Evernote extension crash also

crashes Duckduckgo extension, and Chrome suggests reloading.)

Hey Evernote:

Got this happening since yesterday as well.

HOWEVER:  I cannot submit a help ticket because of what appears to be a server-side error.  I get errors in IE, Chrome and Firefox on multiple computers at multiple locations trying to open a support ticket with Evernote about the web clipper problem...

You guys have some issues happening!

Since my earlier post in the other discussion I've had no crashes http://discussion.ev...hrome/?p=253859 - Seven days and counting

I've changed back to the Stable channel of Chrome but it appears it will stay on the Beta version until the Stable channel catches up unless I re-install Chrome which I really don't want to do unless it starts playing up again

These are some of the sites which were causing me problems, taken from the logs attached below

I have the same experience, WebClipper is crashing EVERY time I use it. The good thing is that it does so after it clips the page.

My Chrome version is in Windows 7 64bit, 32.0.1700.76 m.

It is annoying having to restart the browser to get the WebClipper back; I tried the Reload function from Extensions page but it didn't work.

I started even using the Firefox when I need to clip something.
