I've been experiencing heavy latency in both the desktop and web versions, sometimes freezing when typing, or simply freezing when I want to make an entry. Very frustrating. My resources seem okay, but I don't have the desktop app open, which would bring it up to 95-98 percent memory usage.

Yes I'm getting this as well with the latest update. I'm using the Mac Desktop app but it also occurs in the web version. It seems to be proportional to the size of the note. Meaning if I type into an empty or small note, the lag is minimal, but when typing into a very long note, I'm getting a major latency / lag when typing, multiple seconds.

It really makes it unusable in most of my notes.

This is new as of this latest update as I use Evernote for several hours per day.

I tried disabling spellcheck, restarting evernote, rebooting, looking for new settings to adjust, all of the obvious things, and nothing fixes it.

I'm working on contacting support and I hope others do as well.

I'm also on a Mac and haven't experienced any lag.  Have you tried uninstalling using Appcleaner (this one works when others don't), downloading the latest directly from the Evernote site, and then reinstalling?  Give it some time to download a fresh database.

Thanks s2sailor, I did an uninstall, appclear, reinstall from the website and unfortunately it's still happening. I just haven't had time to gather information for support yet.  What I don't get is why I'm seeing this but not many other people seem to be hitting it.  I see it across two different Macs, both on Sonoma, an M1 with 16gb, and an M2 with 32gb.  I see it both in the desktop client and in the web client.  I don't have any special virus scanners or special utilities running, just fairly clean Macs.  It takes about 10 seconds for a sentence to show up after I've typed it.

Through looking in the profiler in the Chrome dev tools, I'm pretty convinced that something changed with respect to key press event handlers and how / when things are rendered in either Evernote or Chromium.  I thought it might be Chromium / Electron but I see the same lag, actually worse, in Safari, so I'm leaning toward Evernote at this point.

I need to gather information and get it off to support. Thanks.

Actually, I take that back on the idea of the key press event handler as it also takes much longer to even render a note once it's selected on the left, so it's not unique to typing.  I'm experiences some sort of lag / latency in the rendering of the note itself, not just when typing.  And again, it's heavily proportional to the size of the note. Some of my notes are 50 pages long (long logs of activity), but that's never been a problem before the latest release or two.   If I create a new empty note and start typing, it's fine.

I get the impression that @chilee is experiencing something similar, but I'm curious if they can confirm.

Do these long notes have bullets or lists by any chance?  Collapsible sections were recently added and other users with long lists are reporting slowness with those notes.

Good call!  That's seems to be what is causing the problem. Most of my notes consist of 90% bulleted lists.   I created a new note and copied a massive amount of text into it, with no lists, and can type just fine with NO lag.  However when going to a note with lots of lists and text, the lag is immediately apparent.

I haven't looked at the collapsible list feature, to see if there is a way to turn it off, I'm guessing not.

Side rant: I know these new features are added for a reason, but man, for those that are already happy with EN, the pace of change lately has been very disruptive.

I'll be sure to mention this as the apparent source of the problem to support, hopefully they can add yet another setting to turn that feature off, or re-work it to not crush the performance when working on notes with lots of list based text.

And good call again. Thanks.

Thanks for notifying support.  Others are asking for a switch to disable, and hopefully they will listen.  They are undergoing rapid development at the moment and they unfortunately do minimal testing before releasing into the wild.  They usually release a new feature to a small population first to get early input.  I’m surprised this issue wasn’t caught then.

Same problem on MAC app. I have large notes, lots of bullets, in which I constantly write new text (I use it as a kind of log file in my work).
I tried everything, here on the forum someone suggested creating a new evernote database file, I tried that, but typing is still terribly slow, and Evernote using 100% of my MAC CPU. Productivity-killer....

I used Evernote Legacy until the last moment, it was perfect, but this new Evernote is surprisingly slow:(  I've tried other note-taking programs (Joplin, Obsidian, Logseq), but honestly it would be very difficult to switch after many years of using Evernote. So I hope to find some kind of solution on the forum, or something magically changes..

do yout think is it possible that the problem is that i am not subscribed at this moment, and subscribing will solve my problem, at least partially? I'd like to subscribe, but I'm afraid it would be a waste of money if it's still slow after that.
