Unable to Save a Note as a Template.

I checked the option, under 3 dots, but I am unable to locate Save as Template, please advice.

This is my first Template, and I am using a Free Version of Evernote.

Also, I checked my Android app, there the option is in Grey (disabled).

Do I need to take a subscription to save custom Templates?

I'm also interrested in a short description on how to use templates. As a Professional user ...

• I can save a note as a template
  • but cannot find the template anywhere to change it later
• I can create a new note
  • but can only use templates from EN's predefined set of templates
• I want to attach tags to a template
  • but if I remember correct, templates do not contain tags

Anyone here who really uses this feature?

When you open it you should see at the top

You can't edit a template in My templates but you can apply it to a note, edit the note and then save it as a new template.

Templates cannot contain tags. If you want tags in a template you could either copy or duplicate your own "template" note. The only problem with this approach is that you need to manually change the creation date. Another appproach is to create your "template" note and export it as an enex file being careful to uncheck the save creation date option. When you import the file it will create the note with the current creation date. 

A very nice add on to the enex approach is that you can attach the enex file to a note in Evernote. When you double click it, the note is imported into your default notebook (which is where I would want it anyway). This give you the possibility of your own template gallery with it's own shortcut in the shortcut list - much easier to access and without the limitations of not being able to add tags. Here is a dummy version I was playing with:

THX - I'd the idea to use templates before some years but found that it was hard to manage 🤔.

What a pitty - tags are the most beloved feature in EN...

My way to use "templates" is indeed to

• create notes (formatted to fit my needs - including tags)
• store them in a notebook "Templates"
• use them by "duplicate note" (instead of "new note")
• change notebook, creation date, title and content as needed...

Also not a very good solution because my templates are found in searches that match their tags and/or embedded words. Maybe I will have a deeper look into EN's template management anytime in future (if other probs went away 😉)

Another advantage of my do it yourself template gallery, although you can't really avoid words being found in the explanation of the template or the template name.

I use the trick that CSV tags can be copied easily to save a string like <tag1>,<tag2>,<tag3>,<tag4>,<tag5> as the second* line at the top of my template.  Copy the line,  paste into 'Add Tag' box,  and boom - you see tags! 

*The first line gets added as the title if you're not careful...
