Evernote should be able to take screenshots, like it did before.

What benefit did Evernote screen-shotting have over today's native OS functionality or free third party apps that can take screenshots? What is the compelling case for it?

I don't remember the screenshot option as described but I typically take a screenshot on the device then attach it to a note. Probably a couple of steps extra but barely a significant delay in my workflow.

BTW no idea for Windows (there was no OS posted). On the Mac the v10 helper has both a crosshair and an active window clipping option.

Good point. I just assumed that we were thinking of a mobile app.

Sorry I should have specified, this is for the desktop app...  Mainly the Windows platform is the one I'm ranting about here, but I do use it on several platforms (win/mac/ios and occasionally android). The EN helper app supposedly can initiate the Windows snip tool, but I find it usually doesn't work for me, and even if it did it's a pretty clunky user experience.

The old pre-V10 EN screenshot tool was great for grabbing a quick screen cap and annotating it.  For years EN was imho perfect note taking bliss. but this is one of the many features which got axed in the V10 debacle.

Shame they've deleted the legacy download too.....

The Evernote Windows screen shot tool was broken by an update from Microsoft. There is a really simple workaround which works well.

Using the standard Windows screen clip Win+Shift+S will pop the clip onto your clipboard and you can paste that directly into a note.  If you prefer you can connect the Windows screenshot directory to Evernote as an Import Folder and then Win+Shift+S will copy the screen shot into a new note in the same way that you are familiar with.

Just remember to empty the screenshot folder before linking to Evernote or any images already there will be imported without your choice.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I'm playing with some different options.  Reading through the linked thread, glad to see I'm not the only one who finds the V10 to be a downgrade from legacy.

It's sad to watch the EN app decline like this.  One of the few apps I can think of which have gotten worse instead of better through the years.  I know the users on this forum can't fix Evernote's failings, but I always mention it in hopes that someone at Evernote might see it and care.

The only decline was while legacy lasted - no new features in years, belated updates to keep up with OS changes, bug fixes took a year, or longer. This app was visibly dying, you could see it wain. It lost more and more touch with software development - legacy on Windows is still 32bit code.

Luckily we are beyond this stalemate.
