Format 'BOLD' in EN Tables - Strange Alternating/Switching Behaviour vs Other Table Formatting Options - Is this a Bug?

Recommended Posts

I'm running v6.14.5.7671 on a Windows 10, 64-bit laptop, and now using Tables a lot more in EN.

Over the past few days I've noticed strange format-table-cells 'bold' behaviour!  (and only since updating)

If outside the EN Table in the regular note area, and if I have a regular paragraph of text, or even bullet-list of text... and there are a few words here and there that I have formatted bold and now wish to go back and UN-BOLD all those words, well rather than highlight each word individually, I, like most, just highlight the entire paragraph, and click the 'B' bold icon off the menu bar until the desired format change has occurred...so far so good.

This normal BOLD formatting behaviour (discussed above) does NOT happen when I'm working on cell-contents across multiple cells inside a Table!!??  MORE WEIRDNESS!

On my EN install... using the Bold Format Menu Option across multiple cells inside a Table (where again some text is bold and some is not) results in a switching/alternating format-behaviour where words/text that were previously UN-BOLD become BOLD, and vice-versa, BOLD content becomes Un-Bold !!!???  This results in me having to select each cell individually to change the Bold format to the desired Bold/Unbold format.

Note... This strange alternating/switching bold-formatting behaviour of Table cells does NOT occur (for me) when using other Table Content Formatting options i.e. 'Italicise' or 'Underline' ...it's just the Bold format option and again Only for content inside Table cells.

Anyone else getting this? Anyone found a fix?

Cheers

Rick

EN Support requested a screen-capture-video re this Format-Bold-Alternating behaviour that is occurring for me only inside EN Tables, advising that they were unable to re-create the issue.

I have attached here in case any others experience the same and may wish to link their support request to this post... or provide me feedback on how to fix.  I suspect the next update will solve it.

Interesting, never noticed it.

I just tried it on V6.7 and it does the same thing in the tables. So it looks like this has been going on for a while and nobody noticed it or reported it.

It does it to underline and italics too. If one of the cells has an underline text, you do the same, it makes that one un-underlined and the others underlined.

Thanks for the screen video, @RavBoy. So IOW, in tables only, the formatting buttons B I U are functioning as format-toggle switches rather than as format-change commands when items that are not uniformly formatted are selected. Of course, that is how they function anywhere when the selection is uniformly formatted. I.e., if you select text that is entirely bold and repeatedly click B, it will toggle normal/bold/normal/bold, etc. So I can sort of see how this could happen; but since it's inconsistent with expected behavior, I can't see why it should happen!

Out of curiosity, does this happen when you use Ctrl+B to change the formatting rather than clicking the icon?

Hey @TK0047...yeah I only picked up on this later after posting the video.  and I think @Dave-in-Decatur probably nailed the cause.

Again this is a small thing (for the moment) but as I find ways to make the most of EN Tables, this issue has proven to be a little time waster/less user friendly, having to go back and manually format cell-by-cell.  Agree with Dave re his comment quoted below...and yeah same behaviour if using CTRL+B...cheers

I've copy/pasted EN' Technical Team official response below.  Looks like it will be entered into their long to-do list...fingers crossed

Hello Rick, Jeff here with the technical support team I understand you're encountering an issue where bold and non-bold cells in a table are toggling back and forth instead of changing in unison as either bold or non-bold.

I am able to reproduce this exactly as you've shown it. I've gathered all of the very helpful information you provided and reported this to the development team

I'm going to close this ticket while the development team investigates the issue. We may reach out to you if we need more details.

I don't have an estimate for when this will be fixed but keep updating so you always have the latest fixes when they are released.

Feel free to check in with me at any time. Thank you for using Evernote.

Best,
Jeff B.
