I thought I checked this originally and found it didn't so I tried again.  Here is the original note:

and here is the note after using Evernote-backup and reimporting:

It is better than I remembered.  The task structure is there but it dropped the details such as subject and due date.

Well perhaps it depends upon how the note is imported.  I just checked and tried again.  I dragged the ENEX file into the Notebook and it appeared just as wanted and exepected. I also tried the File, Import menu and got the same result. So, for me, working absolutely as I would expect. (Screen shot is the imported note)

  2. Actually for backup the API doesn't need to be updated to connect Tasks since the Tasks are embedded within notes.

I just checked. I exported a note containing a task and a calendar from my main account.  I then opened my empty Free account and the note imported straight into that. All the Tasks displayed as expected as did the calendar entry.

What the API will need to the ability to add and export Tasks from Evernote to link to other applications.  So my evernote-backup ENEX files will recreate the tasks etc.

Glad to have been nudged to check. A backup process that doesn't restore is no backup at all 😖

Can I use the Evernote v.10 database in the same way and therefore continue exactly the same procedure but with the current v.10 database?

We all think so but I don't know if anyone has tried it. On Windows there are several directories you'll need to capture %LocalAppData%\Programs\Evernote is the key one.

I think you should try it out. But I'd contend the evernote-backup routine which captures all your notes

These are good questions, well beyond my knowledge (or that of most users, I'd guess). I'm going to tap @agsteele to ask whether he has any insights from his involvement with the Evernote Experts group. I'm not sure I quite follow "v10 enex export doesn't export all notes in a notebook, just the ones stored locally." AFAIK, there are no notes that are not stored locally, unless one chooses to de-select "Keep a copy of my notes on this device" in Settings, in which case there would be no notes stored locally at all.

I asked about continued access to the API for evernote-backup and was assured it would continue.

The easiest way of moving local notes on Legacy is to move the notes into an online notebook and sync before installing v10. For a free account user export each notebook to a local ENEX.

My understanding is that exiting from v10 requires a note to be downloaded to PC. But if a user has chosen not to keep local copies it will be removed next time the application is closed.

  5. You're talking to other users in these forums. Try feedback@evernote.com if you want to address Evernote.

However, I rarely see pop-ups such as you describe.  Possibly once or twice per month when the software has updated.  Possibly your installation has got stuck delivering these annoyances.  The usual advice is to fully uninstall the desktop app and then reinstall.

If you have the application via the Microsoft store then uninstall from there.  If you have the direct download then uninstall with Revo Unistaller to get a clean removal.

In either case download the latest software from evernote.com/download and log back in.

If you simply want to tell Evernote of your frustration then go via the feedback route.

  6. I should have added that there are regional specific terms relating to privacy.  These include California and Europe.  For Europe it says:

  7. Things are as they are. You could try asking Evernote support for an explanation but I'm not sure anything useful would emerge. I suspect that other utilities have done the work necessary or were clipping by a different process. But that really is conjecture on my part. We know the Microsoft made a change in Windows 11 which caused the issue and that nothing has been done subsequently to change things for Evernote.

To be honest the use of the Windows screen clipper process - Win+Shift+S - works just as well as the previous process within Evernote. Especially if you set
c:\Users\YourWindowsUserID\Pictures\Screenshot tro be an Import Folder in Evernote.  When I clip with this set up it is exactly as the old Evernote process except for different keystrokes. The newer suggestion from @Paddytc has the advantage that it only directs clips intended for Evernote but it does have a couple of additional mouse clicks.

  8. The problem, for Evernote, is that Microsoft changed the ways its own screen clipping process works.  It means that when you choose the Evernote shortcut (Alt+Ctrl+S) this is trapped by Windows and launches the OS screen clip.

The workarounds either use the OS shortcut, Win+Shift+S and the various pasting into a note or saving in an import folder, or this newly identified option of using the Evernote shortcut and then clicking on the stages suggested a post or two above. This latter seems to be way things work now.
