  1. Speaking of which, I see Evernote's page entitled "Our GDPR Commitment" is empty (https://evernote.com/privacy/gdpr) I struggle to see how anyone using Evernote to deal with personal data can possibly comply with the GDPR under this new "cloud-only" approach.
  2. I did not end up moving to Joplin in the end, I decided to move to Zotero. I used Evernote as a reference manager (which was a good idea over a decade ago principally for the reason that Zotero didn't do what I needed it to do with regard to LaTeX and BibLaTeX, so I decided to do citations manually) , but things have come a long way since then.
  3. I add my voice to the chorus of people who hate this new Evernote. Years of work in local notebooks locked away. Weeks of my life spent transferring notes manually from Evernote to another app. Words cannot express how angry I am at Evernote, nor how disappointed I am at just wasting two weeks of my life just to ensure this sort of trick isn't pulled on me again.
  4. Joplin (OPEN SOURCE): https://joplinapp.org There are other alternatives, like Notable, however I would strongly recommend using open-source software to avoid exactly the problems Evernote has just created. I know your pain. I just spent two full weeks manually transferring every note across to another app and I am furious about it. Thanks, Evernote!
  5. HTML is not a good solution if you need to import the notes into another application and keep building the notebook. Specifically, DTLow, I am thinking of markdown. You have missed the point, DTLow. It does not matter if Legacy is currently working or not—that does nothing to ensure my notes are available long-term. For those looking to escape, Evernote's ecosystem, https://notable.app is another alternative.
  6. @Stoppa and @PinkElephant, eventually the Legacy version will stop working, and because it is proprietary, there will not be any Open Source version that people will be able to continue maintaining. This fact that local notebooks has been removed is a ridiculous and infuriating decision that has caused me to move away from Evernote. Evernote is holding my personal data hostage: If I want to use it in the future, I have to pay. I can only export my data in a proprietary format. You might want to look at using Joplin, which was designed as an open-source Evernote alternative. I strongly recommend using Open Source software, as this avoids exactly what Evernote has just done. Thankfully, Joplin can import Evernote's enex format. https://joplinapp.org Evernote? More like Nevernote. Get out while you still can. Export your notes, and get them into an open source format.

Then select all notes, export them, and import them into Joplin.
  9. Thanks @DSE, I will check it out! I am also looking at making the switch to Zotero. I have been a bit hesitant to go down that route in the past because the citation style I use is not supported (which is why I have all my LaTeX references 'hard coded' in Evernote notes). I see some people have made some scripts in the past that converts ENEX to JSON, but it looks like they were abandoned years ago and no longer work unfortunately. I echo your comments about the problem with using Evernote for confidential business. It's simply impossible.
  10. The latest upgrade to Evernote 10 removes support for local notebooks. This took me completely by surprise. I am very, very angry. I am an academic, and Evernote (was) my reference manager. I have thousands of notes that I now need to export to a more useful piece of software. Does anyone have a working script that allows ENEX files to be converted to JSON?
  11. @BSR, why was this not fixed in Beta 2 of 6.11 as indicated earlier; and why is it now going to take "two or three" updates to fix? With all due respect to the Evernote team, the way this has been handled has really been unacceptable. Perhaps if we could understand why this has happened it would help us appreciate the reasons for the delay.
  12. @BSR, I have both restarted and reindexed the search database as per the suggestion. The problem persists.
  13. I refer to the attached post by Evernote employee @BSR. @BSR told us that the problem of being unable to highlight text in a PDF would be fixed in 6.11 beta 2. It was not. Nor was it fixed in the final release of 6.11. When will it be fixed? This problem has been persisting for far too long. I am not interested in workarounds.
