uploading a large PDF and then editing it is a very inefficient way to deal with your upload allowance

Suppose I put my sync setting of my Evernote Mac Desktop client to manually and then I add attachments to notes and annotate them by reducing/cropping file size in Evernote. If I sync after making all the necessary changes, will that count as efficient utilisation of upload allowance or does Evernote sync in some other way those notes?

    • Google Drive integration! Now you can add docs, slides, sheets, and files from Google Drive as attachments or descriptive links without leaving Evernote. Links are formatted as clickable objects when you attach Google Drive files, making them easy to find in a note.

Is there a way to insert multiple files from Google Drive as attachments or links rather than clicking on the Drive icon, searching for the right folder or file and attaching files from there one at a time?

If you could add a recently opened folder tab on the side of the Drive preview, it would make things work out faster rather than having users to search for files to be attached from the same folder in certain situations. Please enable multi-file-select to attach the files/links.

Does anyone have a quick and easy workaround for this?

EDIT: For the time being, I think I will use my Google Drive desktop folder to drag the files I need into Evernote. And I just wanted to test out Evernote's oft-so-heard search feature and I must say WOW - Evernote can actually read my awful handwriting. I'm stunned.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. The issues could be reproduced.
I'm not sure we can fix #3, though.

Thanks for the quick response. While these issues are being addressed, I would like to request a tiny feature addition. When clipping a screenshot, I am unable to move beyond what is displayed on the screen (unable to scroll to increase the selection window). Screenshot by definition shouldn't allow scrolling but it would be nice to have it capturing content that does not always fit within the display screen.

Edit: Also, if you can add resize option after we have selected the clipping and before it opens up for annotation and saving, I think it would make it easier when we are doing quick clippings and in situations like that where we may make mistakes in selection. Currently, resize option is available only within the selection.

  4. I'm using Chrome for Mac - Version 52.0.2743.116 (64-bit).

There are major issues with the screenshot feature:

    1. Screenshot tool selection highlight is not visible on websites with black background
    2. Screenshot of Youtube videos is a pain. For example, if you were to look at a video from Khan Academy (KA) website (please see attached photo and my annotations), you can understand what I am trying to say
    3. Screenshot of Youtube videos in full screen mode fails - again from the same KA website (I am not a computer person but I think they 'embed' Youtube videos)
    4. On any website/webpage, if I click screenshot and drag the tool but press Esc key before releasing the mouse drag-click, the web clipper disappears as it should but I am no longer able to scroll down the page as even the scroll bar vanishes (using the mouse scroll bar does not work as well). Sometimes, the webpage becomes blank. I can use the page normally only after hitting refresh

I am actually using Evernote tools to explain visually the issue(s) in this forum, wow, it really is an awesome tool!

Still need help? Submit a support request.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm having a hard time trying to create a support ticket as I am unable to sign in and raise a request. If I sign in, it opens up my notes and when I click on the support request link it still does not recognise that I am already signed in. I have Evernote Premium so I should be able to raise a request right?

    Please see the attachment.

  6. @gazumped, given that this is a Mac Help forum and that this particular thread is with regard to Annotate PDFs, until the Evernote team finds out a fix for this issue of crashing for multiple page deletions in PDF Annotate mode, I think a good and quick workaround would be using Preview in Mac. Must enable thumbnails and then select the pages to be removed and hit delete! As simple as that! No need to get another PDF editor tool in Mac at least. This was based on your idea of efficiently using Evernote's monthly upload allowance. Thanks again!

Other than that, drag and drop in the TOC note after it is created.

I suppose you meant this to be done via split screen feature of Mac OS. I can't figure out how to drag and drop into another note without that feature. But yes, your tip is quite helpful in certain situations. Thank you.

Merge is done in the order in which you select notes, at least in Windows ... not sure about Mac.  It would be nice if TOC creation was handled in the same way.

I am not sure about merge as I wanted to know only about ToC and not merging notes into a single note.

...and if you create a ToC that has entries in the wrong order,  just cut and paste them into the correct order - still a pain I know,  but less effort than copying the links individually.

Indeed faster but still a pain.

Now re-attach the PDF to the newly created note. Does the issue persist after doing so?

Let me know how this goes, if the issue persists I will send additional steps for troubleshooting this. I look forward to your response!

@BSR, I followed all the steps listed including permanent deletion of referenced note from trash. I attached the PDF file in a new note and let the Evernote sync the file before annotating. I then clicked on Annotate (which opened the file in a separate window as it usually does) and Evernote crashed again on deleting the third page. Evernote crashes only on deleting 3 pages.

uploading a large PDF and then editing it is a very inefficient way to deal with your upload allowance.  Once you edit and save the PDF it will be uploaded again,  although - if you're removing pages - maybe smaller this time.  You do effectively double the sze of the upload use for that one file though - or treble or more if you're editing a lot.  Better to use the Google Drive integration and save the file to GDrive with a link from your note.

@gazumped, you're right, it did not occur to me that the file would be uploaded again and again after each edit. I will make use of the Drive integration. Thank you for taking the time to point this out!

  9. I am trying to create a page similar to the Table of Contents (ToC) feature of Evernote for all notes in a particular Notebook. I know two ways of doing this:

    1. Select the relevant notes and hit create ToC
    2. Select the relevant notes, right-click the selection and hit 'Copy note links' and paste and use them in the format I desire

I prefer the second method as I can customise the note links in the order I want. I have noticed that in both cases, Evernote pastes the links in the order by which the first note was created.

For example, say I create 4 Notes in this order with the names - A, B, C, D - if I create a ToC, Evernote will create links like this:

    1. D
    2. C
    3. B
    4. A

That is, the most recent note is listed first, followed by the 2nd most recent and so on. There appears to be no option to create a ToC order based on user's selection.

I want to paste links in the order in which I select the notes and not based on time of creation. Is there a workaround for this other than manually selecting and copy pasting each note link one by one or saving notes in reverse order like - D, C, B, A? Having a large number of notes in a particular notebook can make it difficult to try and maintain this order.

Any tip would be greatly appreciated. I am running OSX 10.11.6 and Evernote version 6.8 (Direct).

  10. I'm relatively new to Evernote so please excuse my mistakes if I happen to make any.

If I annotate a PDF document attached to a note in Evernote on my Mac Mini, it opens up the editor. There are a lot of pages in the PDF document that I would like to delete. I wish Evernote would give us a simple multi-page select and delete option to remove unwanted pages from the PDF. I have to manually select (right-click and then 'Delete this page' - is there a faster way?) for every single page.

On deleting more than 2 or sometimes 3 pages, Evernote crashes and asks if I want to send a crash report on reopening Evernote. I have already sent one.

At first, I thought it was because the file did not sync fully. I tried again after the file synced fully. The issue persisted.

    Here are some details:

    Hardware Model:      Macmini7,1
    OS Version:      Mac OS X 10.11.6 (15G31)
    Exception Type:  SIGABRT

Evernote version: Version 6.8 (453748 Direct)

PDF file size on disk - 39.2 MB
PDF file size on Evernote - 53.2 MB

Also why does Evernote have a larger file size?

Please help. It is important that I sort this out as soon as possible.
