Happy to report that extension 7.35.0, which was released today for Chrome, has restored the email clipping option!

I did a couple of test clips and it seems to work well enough. This is a much smoother and faster option than using the Gmail extension, except for one thing: the clipper puts pdf attachments inside the HTML container without the usual PDF features, instead of attaching them outside the HTML container where they can be displayed like any other PDF inside Evernote.

This feature would be "perfect" if it put PDF attachments outside the HTML container, so that PDFs would be displayed normally.

I agree - this was so needed, and so appreciated!  Thank you Evernote.

Regarding handling of PDFs, this is the same thing that was happening before it was removed. You can still flatten the email in Evernote, and then the PDFs and attachments are handled well.

  2. Same problem for me - just started when I upgraded to the new version of Outlook (which my company mandated). Very frustrating, because it was the only saving grace when the web clipper stopped working with Gmail.

Any workarounds? I guess just forwarding the email to evernote, rather than clipping. Yuck.

Anyone know if Notion has an Outlook add-in?

I'm not sure why you'd think that there isn't anyone working on the web clipper.  It is updated from time to time - my version was last updated on 24 June 2023.

However, there is no guarantee that anyone from Evernote will review posts in this thread.  You should submit a support ticket or feedback@evernote.com to be sure that your comments are noted.

I'll add that the clip as Article produces an exact copy of the Email from my Gmail account. I'm actually not sure what is supposedly missing.

    Sounds good - I will email feedback@evernote.com.

Clip As Article definitely doesn't work. When I'm in Gmail, the entire screen goes gray. If I click 'Save Clip' with Article selected, it clips a completely different email (the one I previously used the Gmail extension for), and the attachment (a PDF) isn't included at all.

Ticket submitted. Will share their feedback as soon as I get it.

Got the following response when I submitted a ticket. At least they know there's a problem.

    Hello Eric,

Thank you for contacting Evernote Support. I'm Raven, and I'll be looking into your concern.

I understand that you're having trouble with clipping your emails with the Evernote Web Clipper. Please know that we are aware of this problem you experience and that our developers are working on a fix; however, we are unable to provide a definite time as to when it will be completed.

In the meantime, you may try these workarounds until a permanent fix is implemented:

    1. The issue where the "Email" option doesn't show is usually the first time you click on the Web Clipper. A possible workaround is to close the Web Clipper box > and click on it again.
    2. You can also save emails to Evernote using your unique Evernote forwarding email address.

I apologize for the inconvenience it may have caused, and hoping for your patience and understanding on this matter.

    Kind regards,

    Raven B.

I'm seeing the same thing since a couple of days (today is October 13th), on Edge on Windows and Chrome (not Chromium) on Linux. No way I'm able to clip an email as "email". This is sort of a bummer. I have seen since ages problems like "the first time it does not work, then either retry, or reload gmail page, and it works" and happily co-lived with those, but now it's a 100% rate of no clipping. I'm forwarding emails now, but it requires more curating on my side. 😐

Yes - it seems to be happening again. It was fixed for a few weeks, but now it's back.  Sad...

I can repro this 100% of the time, in case that helps to narrow down the issue. I also have an easy workaround - triggering the clipper a second time will then recognize the email. If I refresh Gmail (or close Gmail tab and later reopen it), the process repeats.

That was an older problem. I was having that problem before as well - whenever I rebooted, this would happen. Clicking on the clipper a second time would make it recognize Gmail as email.

However, this other problem didn't fix itself with a second click. It kept happening. Seems still to be fixed for me (24 hours later).

It is usually not the clipper making trouble (how it could, no new releases of the clipper, so it is the same software). It is the browsers making trouble, or to be more explicit: It is Chrome, driven by Google, making the trouble. It is a know issue that Google twists Chrome to make the web more Google-ish, allowing Google to cut an ever larger chunk of advertising money from the total flowing through the web.

When using Google services, you are (probably unwillingly) part of the game driving others out of the internet.

There are only 2 browsers left that don’t drive their GUI based on Chrome / Chromium in the machine room: This is Apple with Safari, only available on Apple devices, and Firefox / Mozilla. Apple can spare the money, FF is said to be struggling.

Back to the clipper: They will get it back to work, one day, sooner or later. I appreciate they are not distributing fuzzy feelings when they probably still know they have a way to go to get it back to work.

@PinkElephantCan't really blame Google when it's happening with Edge as well. It might be Chromium (since they both run on this), but that's 90% of the browser market, so Evernote really has to fix the problem.  I'm sure they will, but it's been >1 week and they don't seem to know about the problem yet...

Hi @EricBen, thanks for mentioning this. We're aware of an intermittent issue where this may occur but it doesn't seem to be consistent. I've been trying to reproduce as you mention but have been unable to on my end on 7.14 so far. Anything change in your setup or the type of email where this happens most consistently or did it simply just start happening across the board for you this week? We don't have an estimate on when to expect a fix at this time, but any details you may have are welcome. @gazumped's suggestion could be a good possible workaround in the meantime to give you greater Gmail clipping consistency.

Hi @Jay-Bob- thanks for responding!  The problem with the clipper is universal with Gmail. I've tried it with multiple emails, on multiple days, and with both Chrome and Edge as a browser. It doesn't recognize the email as email - it only offers to take a screenshot, or clip the 'Full Article', which doesn't provide the threading format or attachments.

@gazumped- the Gmail clipper simply isn't as good. You can't search for a notebook and it's much, much slower than the Extension for Chrome. It works, but isn't really functional for my workflow.

  9. @doctorkeoNot sure what you mean - I can copy an internal link now (it was created a few updates ago).  The hotkey is CTRL+ALT+L when you are on the note. This will copy the internal link, and you can paste in any program.  It works for me.

Months on still not fixed - Technical support (27 May 2021) did not mention of fixing / adding this 'feature'. There only suggestion was redo them in version 10. They must be mad I have 19,000 notes!  Now I really can't see me leaving the Legacy version.

When you clip a gmail message, unlike a normal web page,  you don't get any options (e.g simplify) at this stage. So you are clipping html and there is nothing you can do about it.

The other way of getting emails in to EN, for premium members like yourself, is to email it to your special evernote email address. See https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/209005347-Save-emails-into-Evernote

If it's a complcated email it will appear as html so that doesn't help. If it's a simple email (ie just text and the attachment) it will appear in EN as the text and a clickable attachment. For more complicated emails you can forward it in plain text mode and that will strip out all the html. It's possible it will also strip out the attachment - I don't have a suitable email to try it on.

Thanks, but why was this never an issue in Evernote versions before 10?  It seemed to work fine in previous versions, and in the Legacy version.

  11. Hi all,

I'm enjoying learning Evernote 10, which has improved dramatically over the past 3 months. However, I'm struggling with the Clipper for email messages (using Gmail). For every message, it looks like a web clip and not an email. This means that attachments must be downloaded, rather than opening up in-line in Evernote (e.g. PDF), or opening up with one double-click (e.g. Word documents).  This is solved by clicking "Simplify & Make Editable".

Is there any way to default all Gmail messages clipped using the Clipper to be "Simplified"?  It's annoying to have to change the message every time.

    Thanks!

I can reproduce that behaviour. The whole email appears in a web clip box. If I "simplify and make editable" I then get the pdf inline and can change it to an attachment.

The other alternative to try is to email it directly into your account.

    Glad I'm not alone!

Forgive me - how do you "simplify and make editable"? I can't find that as an option in Evernote.

  14. Hi all,

Still trying to get used to Evernote X as a power user - it's been tough...

One major thing is nagging at me. I'm not sure If I'm doing something wrong. When I use the clipper to clip a Gmail email message with a PDF attachment, the attachment won't display inline in the Evernote note, or open automatically. In Evernote X, I have to double-click on the attachment, save it to my hard drive, and open it manually with Adobe Acrobat.

For the same note, when I open the note in Evernote Legacy edition (or earlier version), the PDF displays in-line in the note, and I can click on it once and evernote will display the PDF full-screen.

Why won't Evernote X do the same thing that older versions of Evernote does?  Am I missing a setting?

  15. I'm also having this problem. I went back to Evernote Legacy after realizing that Evernote 10 does not support internal links. I depend on internal links to integrate my ToDoist workflow with Evernote.  In previous versions, I can click the internal link in Todoist and it will take me directly to the Evernote desktop application (I'm on Windows 10).

It doesn't work with Evernote legacy.

I can create the internal link as previous (right-click on the note, and hit CTRL+"Copy Internal Link").  This creates the evernote:/// link and I can paste it into Todoist.  However, when I click on it, NOTHING happens.

When I click on it on my work desktop, which still has Evernote 9 running on it (I never upgraded to 10), it works perfectly.

    Ack!

  16. You aren't alone. I never thought I'd consider leaving Evernote. I'm scared to do it.

But, after 3 days with Evernote 10 on my Windows 10 device, I'm done. The lack of functionality is staggering. No sync button, no internal links, no note counts next to the notebook. Heck, I don't understand why I can't delete a note anymore with the DELETE key?!  (why should I have to push TWO keys to delete a note??).

I'm very frustrated and scared that Evernote is done. For now, I'm going back to the older desktop version. The iOS version doesn't affect me as much, but I rely on Evernote as a power user for my daily work and productivity. This is atrocious. I'm so sad...

In the new version the search bar is no longer at the top of the note list. If you prefer the sidebar minimised (I do as well) you need to either click the magnifying glass search icon to pop out the search bar or, provided the focus is on a note in the note list, you can use the shortcut alt-ctrl-F.

What about the sync button? Can't find that on my new Evernote. I use it often as I'm leaving my desk if a new note hasn't synced yet.

that they're working on an update such that even evernote.com style note links clicked in another program will open in the desktop app rather than in

I installed the "new" Evernote, quite excited about the refresh, but for me the lack of an internal link makes it unusable. My workflow depends on an internal link, as I use Todoist as a task manager, and I link notes to my tasks on a regular basis. I don't want it to take me to the web version of the note - I want it take me to the desktop version so I'm not distracted by the web. I often work with the internet offline.  This makes my workflow unusable!

Very disappointing update so far. I hope they add this back in!  In the meantime, I'll go back to the "classic" version.

Not sure why you have to relink a task?

Once I've completed that task, and I move to the 'next actionable step', the original task (that I've completed) gets archived. The link won't carry over to the new task.  In addition, if a note is no longer needed (since the task is complete), there's no way to link that project to the project notebook (each project is a notebook in Evernote).  It would be easier just to have a link to the overall notebook in the Project folder, so I can always go to that notebook when needed.

  20. I agree 100% with this feature request. I started using ToDoist for my task management. It allows for Evernote links to notes, so I use the Classic note links (evernote:////). However, it's a pain to relink a task each time I complete the previous task. I would LOVE for their to be a Notebook link. That way, i would put the notebook link to evernote in the Project in Todoist, instead of linking to a task. Much easier...
