  1. Also having this issue where EN v10 opens individual notes into a child window the external 4K monitor (display #2) attached to my laptop (display #1) where display #1 is the desired screen to open on. So tried a variety of the solutions listed above. My desktop: Display #2 ----- Display #1 The child window was opening to the far left on display #2. I had tried the HOVER method while the external monitor was connected and while I could move the child window over to the laptop it did not change the open position permanently. The Windows key + movement arrows works when the external monitor is connected but when the external monitor was disconnected this method did NOT work. All notes continued to open where the display #2 had been. I tried all 4 arrows and may simply of not been diligent in ensuring I was not moving the child window further away but for the first attempt I did use Win + arrow in the same keystrokes as when it was successful earlier. >> With the monitor still disconnected, I tried the HOVER method over the task bar icon and brought the child window back to display #1 - it took a while for it to travel back as it had been opening as far away as it could get from the boundary to the laptop screen. Closed the window. Double clicked a different note. It opened on the correct display #1. >> Reconnected the external monitor and opened a note in a new child window. It opened on the correct display #1 !!! It appears the HOVER method may reset the open position when/if the external monitor is disconnected. I tried dragging over a note from display #1 to #2 and closing it on #2 to see if that causes it to re-open on #2. Not today but there is always tomorrow for the EN magic to bless my keyboard. Crossing my fingers as I wrap up this work week. 🙂 Edit: Doh!!! When I maximized EN it started placing the child window back on display #2. As soon as I "Restored Down" it would open on display #1. Earlier it did not matter if EN was max'ed or restored down - it always put the window on display #2. .
  2. @Mike P You might have something there with Filter on Location where the "Top Notebook" is selected. I recall trying that function on sub Notebooks but the not with the top Notebook in the stack. It looks like it is a v10 workflow that will effect what I was doing in v6, albeit with what I consider to be unnecessary mouse clicks and keystrokes rather than simply mousing over to far left and selecting the topmost notebook in the stack. The Filter on Location remains even when I go back to edit my search word unlike when I initiate the search simply from the Search Field. I will give a good workout over the next couple of days. I've been so frustrated with various aspects of v10 that it has become a forest for the trees thing with me and it was just easier to stick with v6. With the new v10 sync system, it is time to find my path in v10. Thanks for pointing that out! .
  3. Nothing by email from EN to me. I've checked the Support pages for a way to follow up an issued Ticket # and the one page that seemed to be related was a dead end. https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/209005377 .
  4. The issue was confirmed by EN Support when I submitted a ticket on the issue in July 2022. It has yet to be debugged. .
  5. @Dave-in-Decatur Yes, I know that. Just trying to get those keystrokes down to about where I was in my workflow with v6. Especially seeing as I had to almost double my time working around a bug dropping PDF's into notes due a bug in EN v10. .
  6. @gazumped it could very well be the functionality I'm looking for is already there but v10 is so different from v6 that the learning curve may be beyond me. For example, it seems like v6 had more setup options than v10 for things like disabling "search while you type". I can see that being a problem with searching all 60K+ notes. FWIW, there is a bug with v10 that when you drop a PDF into a note, certain data fields do not get automatically enumerated. My workaround is to open the PDF in Adobe Reader and then copy and paste as text the contents into the note as well as dropping the PDF in the note. It was acknowledged several months ago and is not yet fixed. So my daily workload entering info into EN pretty much doubled with just this issue. I'm trying to get some of that time back. .
  7. What do you mean by this? I think you and I have had this discussion before about "Stacks". Maybe I'm not using terminology from the Evernote universe and so we have a miscommunication. Notebook stacking was a big part of v6 and one of the reasons I went with EN for flexibility in managing data. Let me show you a picture - see attached. Being able to segregate my Personal notes separately from my Work notes without having to use a tag was key. I have about 30 Notebooks stacked under "Personal". 60 more notebooks under the "Work" Notebooks. I'm very aware of the alphabetical sorting of the Notebooks. That has never been an issue. But I have several " Top" Notebooks under which many others reside (stacked). It is much easier in v6 to pull out info especially when dealing with technical terms and their various abbreviations and when a project would involve several entities. v10 is just not so smooth. >WORK-Indirect-Clients << Top Notebook Broadcast << Sub Notebook CATV-Telecom << Sub Notebook - several hundred organizations grouped in market verticals. "WORK-Indirect_Clients" has no notes in it other than the ones that reside in the sub notebooks. It is merely a "Title" notebook for the stack. I call it the "Top" Notebook in the stack. .
  8. You're not fully understanding what I was looking for. I'm not a Professional subscriber. Never had to be with v6 and now with v10 foisted on us with missing functionality, yes, maybe I might have to go there. The Search in v10 is not a "live" filter type operation as it was in v6. In v6 you could type in Bobcat one letter at a time and your results would winnow down on the fly every time a letter is added - no need to press enter to initiate a search. B 5000 results Bo 2300 bob 450 bobc 3 and you could backspace as you made spelling changes/corrections and the results would update on the fly. It is the same functionality as exhibited in the Filter feature of the Thunderbird email client where it acts on the folder you are currently working in. The problem with v10 Search is that it will initiate the search on the top notebook in a stack but once the search is done, and if you started off with the wrong word it puts you back to "All Notes" and you then have to find and select the top notebook again. Time is wasted scrolling up and down in the Notebooks on the left side of the screen. Now, with v10, if you select a sub-Notebook , it retains the Filter for that sub-notebook if you go back to the search field and change the word. .
  9. Further to my post : One of the feature I really miss in V6 is the ability to select/highlight one of my notebooks or the top notebook in a stack and then from the Search field in the top of the "Top List" or "Side List" view (not the field at top left side as per V10) type in a keyword. As you type in the word in V6 it acts like a real time filter to drill down on the word. Type more and fewer notes show up in the list below. It was particularly convenient to select the top Notebook in the stack and "filter" all the notes in the sub-notebooks. In v6 with View Mode in either "Top List" or "Side List" you get a Search Field at the top of your screen as in the attached example. When searching from the Top Notebook of a Notebook Stack your results will show what sub Notebooks various notes can be found in. See attached image. I see in v10 that individual Notebooks can be Filtered. But NOT an entire Notebook stack. And.... a TEXT option is missing from the filters. I have yet to find a "live filter" methodology as was provided in v6. Instead I've been using Advanced Search Syntax to search stacks. It is far less convenient than what we had in v6. Request: Bring back v6 type Search Field or ADD "Text" option to Filters Menu in v10 & add Filtering on the Top Notebook in a Notebook Stack .
  10. Long time user since 2013 and now putting to bed my v6 Windows desktop app with the recent update in V10 that added Collaborative Editing. I have a database with 6000+ notes utilizing a total of 90 notebooks in 5 Notebook Stacks and a couple of hundred Tags. One of the things I miss in V6 is the ability to select/highlight one of my notebooks and then from the Search field in the top of the "Top List" or "Side List" view (not the field at top left side as per V10) type in a keyword. As you type in the word in V6 it acts like a real time filter to drill down on the word. Type more and fewer notes show up in the list below. It was particularly convenient to select the top Notebook in the stack and "filter" all the notes in the sub-notebooks. When you try to do similar in V10, the search is NOT a live filter and once your search is run (press Enter), the screen returns to "All Notes". A real pain in the backside when you have a misspelling or the word generates no hits. Inconvenient, not efficient, and disruptive to workflow. A workaround is to use "Advanced Search Syntax" to isolate the search to a specific notebook or notebook stack. ie. stack:TopOfStackNotebook keyword with quotation marks if the Notebook Name has multiple words ie. stack:"Direct Clients" "Bob Smith" Using Advanced Search Syntax, the syntax remains in the Search Field after your initial search is run, allowing you to click on the word and edit it and run the search again without having to type in all the "stack:notebookname" info. Issue: some of Notebook Names are complex and/or require a fair bit of typing making the use of Advanced Search Syntax much less convenient than what we had in v6. Solution: It would be a time saving feature to include "Copy Notebook Name" in the menu that pops up when right mouse click on the Notebook Name shown on the left of the window in the default view. .
  11. Does not work with legacy Win ver 6 as expected. I edited in ver 6 while having the note open to view on my phone, possibly in edit mode. Manaually sync'd. An exclamation mark appeared on the Sync button at upper left in Win v6 but I did not see a duplicate note created anywhere. And hovering my mouse over the exclamation mark does not pop up any clue to what has happened. The changes did not sync immediately to the the phone app, even after using the manual sync function from deep in the the Settings menu. About 5 minutes later a duplicate has shown up in "Conflicting Changes". Oh dang. I so much prefer copy and paste from ver 6 as v10 really screws up formatting and inserts empty lines/spaces. .
  12. OH YEAH!! 😲 I see it now with an update that came through today via the Microsoft Store. I see my avatar icon at top right and even more impressive is a coloured vertical marker, like a mouse position marker, at the EXACT character I'm editing with an matching colour "ID" flag off the top and to the right of that vertical coloured marker. That ID Flag disappears after a couple of seconds if you do nothing but as soon as you start typing it reappears along with the characters you are typing, in near real time. It is a red marker & flag when I make the edits on my laptop and am watching it on my phone. It is a green vertical marker & flag when I edit on my phone and am watching it on my laptop. In near real time. And as soon as you leave EDIT mode in one device, your avatar at upper right on the other device disappears. I almost cannot turn my head fast enough to look from one screen over to the other to see it fade away. That is definitely cool!!! 👍 .
  13. It was to do with copying and pasting text (not code) from emails, PDF's, and Word docs into the EN note. I'll find the other thread. Was just hoping you'd seen it in a briefing. .
  14. LOL nope, not yet for me. I ended up with triplicates of my test note. We'll test again next week. That does seem to be a significant improvement. Any word on if they resolved the issue with the editor adding in extra blank lines when copy & pasting? .
  15. Ahh! OK, this will be interesting. No avatar seen as yet. Will wait until next week. Interestingly, it did copy over the text from my desktop Win V10 to Android V10 very quickly - like 20 seconds or less. .
  16. Still " Evernote 10.55.2 is currently the newest version available " in Win 10 as of a few seconds ago. Evernote 10.50.3(1129946) on Android phone (in Canada). Hmmm.... this is distressing, I peeked at my offline notebooks and saw that the offline mode had been disabled. I know I enabled it back before Christmas when I switched to a new phone. Hopefully it does not take 2-3 days to sync like a previous time. .
  17. I haven't yet received.... wait, maybe I have. My phone app has not changed that I can see and I use Windows V10 so little that I may have missed the "you got a new feature" pop-up. I really really dislike V10 - it is quite disruptive to the work flow I've used for years. .
  18. Sync still fails at times. I manually sync on all devices and in the Android app it is a PITA going back to the home screen \ 3 bar menu \ Gear icon \ Sync \ Sync Now and then two more taps back to Home screen. 7 taps for peace of mind. 6 weeks ago I had an issue with where a bunch of notes did not sync from the V10 Windows app to my Android phone app regardless of the CTRL R's and 7 tap Sync's I attempted. Because I needed those notes on my phone prior to a surgery I copied and pasted them into my good old reliable much loved V6 and they sync'd no problem. After my surgery with a bit of time on my hands, I looked into the issue. I found that if I go into the V10 upper left menu \ File \ Quit Evernote and then restarted it would sync. Now I always "Quit" V10 rather than simply "X" close it's window. Never ever had to "Quit" with V6. It just gets more & more complicated to use. I hope that for the Windows desktop app that they bring back the ability (as per the V6 Windows app) to search all sub-notebooks under the top notebook in a descending stack of notebooks just by selecting the highest notebook you want to search from and then entering your phrase in the search field. Much easier than trying to formulate a syntax in the search field where your notebook names that have been in use for a dozen years are not simple. That cost increase is an example of gouging imho and the only reason I'll accept it is it is a business expense for me. Sadly, 80-90% of my daily desktop input is via the old reliable V6 so I'll be paying a premium for use of the phone app. .
  19. LOL so true.... I've always thought the Apple app was out for several years on the iPhone before an Android version came out and that influenced subsequent development of features that did not work as well in the Android <> Windows interchange. Maybe something I read when I was evaluating several products to support mobility in the field with Android back in 2013.
  20. I get a sense that there is a disconnect between iOS development and Windows OS development. Correspondingly there is a disconnect on the support side. EN to me has always seemed optimized for the Apple world, not the Windows/Android world but that is somewhat understandable if it started out as an Apple app. However, I'm not switching to Apple just to fix EN problems so I know I have to use work-a-round's for some things. . .
  21. Yeah, last week, the one time I did not use CTRL-R in the Windows v10 desktop app before leaving my office and checking my phone to see if it sync'd, about 90 minutes later I needed it and could not get it on my phone. When I left, my laptop was on, Evernote was still open in the background, and the system would have shut down the screen in about 20 minutes but not powered down. By the time I got back to my office and confirmed the laptop was on and the sync had still not occurred was about 2.5 hours later. But this is not my biggest issue with the new v10 currently because I should have done the CTRL-R and checked before rushing out. I have another post coming on a search function available in the old v6 that is not in v10. What a PITA. .
  22. I never drop entire emails into Evernote. I never use the EN email feature. I should look at that for some of the high priority longer emails that come through. I will copy out snippets of email conversations (and product PDFs) related to technical issues to include for reference as a solution is developed and refined - with iso8601 date stamps (i.e. 2022-08-17 see my other posts on v10 desktop being unable to do this where v6 desktop was capable - AutoHotKey is working perfectly to resolve that btw. TY very much for that.). My work email is quite fast and effective at finding the full email conversations going back years as long as I have snippets of key information and I'm working my laptop, not my phone. I am a wee bit OCD about all the blank lines for easy reading ability, in particular off my mobile phone. As much as some of EN v10's changes and glitches are annoyingly requiring time to resolve, this app is far far more effective & convenient for me to manage client and technical information than what I used to use which was a mish mash of a CRM database app, folders/files on a laptop, and DropBox, that I was never able to access quickly or conveniently once I was away from my office . Thanks for the suggestions. .
  23. I had thought about first pasting into Notepad or RTF enabled Wordpad to try and filter out some of the HTML code. But that is an extra step and so far it has been easier simply using "v6" to go back through the 1000 notes . As I move to a higher percentage of daily input using v10, I'll keep in mind taking that extra step of filtering the text through Notepad or similar exclusively for those troublesome emails. .
