The 10.58.8 release dialog box said there was new print functionality. It took me awhile to find it, but it turns out that I can now use the System Dialog Box from the Print Note function on MacOS. Wow, that is so great. I have been complaining about the printing errors since Oct-2020, starting with v 10.1.7 build 1902 and support tickets such as

I agree it's annoying that the display was jumping with each appearance and disappearance of that message,  but I've not seen it for a while now and things seem to have settled down...

I lost content on my ipad on May-13-2023, even though I have been manually syncing every time I edit on the ipad, due to past lost data.

I didn't appear to lose content on May-17 when I got that message, but I was also constantly duplicating my note throughout the meeting, because I was so worried about evernote's reliability. I have been a paid user since 2014 and this unreliability and/or appearance of unreliability over the past 6 months is wearing very thin.

Starting on May-17-2023, which was right after some update that promised great improvements, I started getting this on my ipad and mac. It made me afraid to use Evernote, because I figured I would lose all the data. The message lasted for 15-30 minutes, right during my meeting while I was taking notes. I haven't seen it the last 2 days, but I also reduced my evernote usage because of the fear. Very bad job, new Evernote owners!  🤮

Oy vey, i just checked my iPad Pro which is on 15.5, and it looks like the Scannable “looking for document” problem has returned. I did submit a support request back when I started this thread. It took about 2 months of back and forth with escalating levels of support, submitting files and examples over and over. And then, the problem suddenly disappeared. So they closed the support request.

That’s so awful that the problem has returned. I also see that it appears Evernote on the ipad no longer has the built in scanning function. So my guess is that they changed some code somewhere and stuck the bad code back in. One thing I did notice while it was working was that you have to use Scannable in portrait mode. It doesn’t detect the page if you use it in landscape. 

Maybe if we both submit new support requests, the developers will try to fix the problem?

I have been happily using Evernote Scannable for the past i don't know 5 years or so. But for the last few months, Scannable has become almost unusable on my ipad.

• Scannable keeps "looking for document". Half the time it never sees the page correctly, e.g., it focuses on part of a book's page. Or it takes so long, I give up.
• Scannable used to resize and straighten out pages. Now it does that only about 1/3 of the time. Which means I have to go in and crop the image myself, and the text is no longer straightened out for me.
• Also irritating, every time I open the app it makes me have to Skip through the Introduction.

What is going on? Why did the Scannable app become so bad? Another product rewrite like the larger Evernote? Did they stop using some third party code for scanning? It's such a disappointment. I had stopped using my printer/scanner because Scannable was so much better and quicker. But now, Scannable is almost useless.

How can I submit this as a support request? It seems like Evernote really doesn't want to receive bug reports.

Hi @gazumped, I’ve seen that suggestion before, to copy and paste my Note to a word processor. To me, that defeats the whole purpose of using Evernote. 

But it’s interesting to hear they still have 1,000 defect reports from the re-write a year ago. 

hi @gazumped, let's not argue this, but any function whose output is so bad that it makes that function useless -- well that needs to be fixed. What good is a print function if I can't print what is on the page? What good is a print function that only prints 85% of a document?

And yes, this whole printing problem started with evernote's move to an HTML-based solution. You can go back to my original post and see the number of posters who have bothered to login and complain about losing the ability to print or PDF their notes.

If you have any status with the evernote team, maybe you could point out to them that this is a problem. They already deleted my support ticket once. I shouldn't have to keep resubmitting support tickets.

Evernote apparently deleted my old support ticket, so I resubmitted with these new PDF examples of the problem. The printing improved a little bit; it seems to be a problem with longer notes. I generated one PDF using the 3-dot Print menu, and the 2nd PDF was generated using the 3-dot Export as PDF menu. Neither output is acceptable to me. The Export to PDF function now scrambles text so that I cannot copy and paste out of my own evernote-generated PDF. I don't even understand why they would make this a "feature".

I used to be a software developer and I used to do a lot of quality testing. I find evernote's level of quality and lack of responsiveness really disgraceful to the craft. It's so sad, because I have paid for and depended on this product for so many years.

8 months later, Printing is still not fixed!

I am now on Evernote 10.16.7 on my mac. I submitted a support ticket back in Oct-2020, but nothing has happened, and there is no workaround. Printing from the web browser interface to evernote doesn't work either (someone suggested that in this thread). Since I live close to Redwood City, I may have to go picket Evernote's corporate HQ to get some attention around here!!! I'll let Evernote know that

users can "Accomplish anything" except printing! 😡😡😡

Wow, 6 months and these printing problems remain.

Evernote Team and Management, this is unacceptable.

To hopefully get more visibility to this problem, I created a new post with files to demonstrate the problem better. Please fix this issue.

I first reported the printing problems after the Evernote big rewrite 6 months ago in Oct-2020.And now, it has gotten even worse.

What does it take to escalate this bug fix?

For your troubleshooting, I am attaching one of my notes exported to a .enex file. The PDF should be 9 pages long. I also attach the various ways that the PDF comes out. The problems occur whether I am opening in Preview, creating a PDF, creating an Adobe standard PDF, or an Adobe high quality PDF.

• a page feed often occurs in the middle of the bottom line of text
• hyperlinks are never included
• pdf is missing 1-2 pages, either in the beginning or at the end
• pdf has additional 5 blank pages
• pdf has a 1/4" wide line on the right side of all pages
• the filenames are still not helpful either

Note that If I exit the Evernote app on my mac, the missing page problem remains, but if I reboot my Mac, the first time I print a note to PDF will be good, but after that the missing page problem reoccurs until I reboot my mac again.

Before the big rewrite, Evernote used to include hyperlinks in the PDF. Without that capability, I cannot print my research notes to a PDF that non-Evernote users can use. Maybe that was the Evernote team's intention, but it takes away a major benefit. So to send my research to others, I have to copy and paste to a Word document.

Please reinstate the hyperlinks.

On my mac, when I paste or drag in an image, I cannot indent or outdent the image. The image cannot be selected. If I try to down or up arrow to the image, the cursor steps over and goes to the next line. So I cannot get the cursor to grab the scope on the line that the image is on. I need to be able to format an image just like any text.

A new evernote version is now installed on my Mac, but most of the printing problems remain. Plus, there is another significant problem. When I print to PDF, there are no clickable links of the URLs. They show up as blue and underlined, but they cannot be clicked on to go to the URL from the PDF. This is a MAJOR problem for my use model.

How do I force an update to 10.2? Evernote on my mac says:

Today I opened evernote and searched for someone's name. All the documents in the search results were blank.  I clicked on various notes in the list, but nothing! I panicked, thinking that my evernote database had been wiped out. I then quit evernote and reopened it. Fortunately, now all the documents are visible.

I am on MacOS Catalina 10.15.7

on a sidenote, where are we supposed to report bugs? Do we do it here in this forum, as I am starting to accumulate a small list but some are quite severe. I have been a paid evernote user since 2015.

Thanks, this workaround was successful for me. I moved the note from my default notebook to another notebook on my Mac, and then I was able to move the note to the Trash. I confirmed that the note also deleted from my phone.

I suffered this problem this morning. I created a note on my iPad and tried to insert an image from my photos. The app had a little spinning icon for a long time, so I gave up.

I backspaced over the spinning icon. But then I found I could not delete the note from either my ipad or my mac.
