(Archived) Images have become broken links—please help!

I'm on OSX 10.8.1 and up-to-date Chrome. When I want to clip an image, instead of using the web-clipper at the top right of Chrome, I right click on the image >> evernote web clipper >> clip image. I've been doing this for a year. Suddenly, some of my older notes have the images disappearing and being replaced with a little blue question mark icon. When I follow the URL that automatically saved with the note, I think I've found that the particular website has either deleted that image or changed it's filename or location or something similar.

I would think that the right clip function was saving an actual copy of the image in my evernote, so that this wouldn't ever happen! And I'm confused because I can look at those images when I'm offline. Is it really actually just creating a link? This is bad, because over time, I might lose these images that I'd really like to keep. Should I change the way I am clipping images?

I would raise a support ticket as this sounds like a corruption. A number of other users have had a similar problem and it was resolved with the help of support.

Maik, I was back in forth with support for a couple weeks and all I ever really got was "hmmm that shouldn't be happening." Then I guess they dropped it. I'm not a paying user so I'm probably not a priority.

I am on OSX 10.8.3 and have the broken images as well. Using firefox 20.0, and I am a paying subscriber....

I can observe this happening as well, in numerous cases, but which are hard for me to reproduce or find at all.

 

Actually, I thought, using Evernote always made a copy of an image being clipped and then saved that copy as a file, not just a link to the image residing on the server.

 

With much dissatisfaction I realized that some of the images I clipped over time were appearing as broken, as the originally posting victim describes above. I was using Safari, Chrome, Chromium, Firefox.. different browsers, and different versions of Evernote, usually always the latest and greatest, and the issue seems to be present across different versions of Evernote.

 

Is there something I miss in the way I need to clip the image? Are image URLs clipped differently than a HTML page with embedded images?

 

I thought every browser content was clipped in much the same way, and the purpose of clipping it is - of course - to review it at a later date, even though the server might have changed its contents or the content or the server have disappeared at all.

 

How can I easily prevent the image files I save to Evernote of going stale.. or.. in other words.. how can I actually use Evernote to clip images in a way that a copy of the image is made and attached to the note in a way that it does not disappear or break anymore, even when the image is replaced or deleted on the server?

 

As this phenomenon of broken clipped images seems to be independent from the versions of the components of this Evernote scenario (Evernote itself, the Evernote Web Clipper, the browser, ...), I think I might just be clipping it wrong or somehow else 'doing it wrong'.

 

What could that be?
