(Archived) HELP: How to create a new stack on Mac? [ANSWERED]

sallysmith

Idea

I have Mac version 3.1.2 (just updated to the most recent version that Mac has)

How do I make a stack? I have searched and everyone says the same thing -

1) drag a notebook into a notebook and a new stack will be created.

I cannot drag a notebook into a notebook - it simply does nothing. I even tried to drag a stack into a stack and again NOTHING - the notebook just pops back into place where I had moved it from

2) Or right-click and choose "add to stack"

The only options I get when I right click on a notebook are as follows:

New Notebook in "Personal"

Share Notebook

Rename Notebook

Delete Notebook

Remove from Stack

Sort by notebook name

Sort by note count

Export notes from "Follow up"

That is all - There is nothing on make a new stack anywhere

Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong, please.

Thank you

Wouldn't you know, as soon as I posted I figured it out ---

The notebooks HAVE TO BE EMPTY OF "sub-folders" in order for them for them to make a new stack - which you then will have to re-name. That would be because Evernote doesn't make folders to the subfolders within a notebook.

If the Notebook is empty (meaning - it can have notes but not sub-folders) then you can right click and see the option "Add to stack" > "new stack"

I hope this helps anyone else with this question.

Hi sallysmith, welcome to the forum :)

Often, just writing about the issue can lead to clarity :P

Glad that you found a solution and thanks for posting it for others.

Yes, what you have discovered is true, you can only create 1 level of stacks, and cannot create stacks within stacks.

So when you were trying to create a stack, you were already in a stack (Named "Personal", as can be seen from your menu description)

I guess this is the point where I raise the issue that the Knowledgebase doesn't really explain this when discussing stacks:

Just so you know, you can also search a stack, with the search term stack:

This is also currently undocumented...but it works similarly to Notebook:

Scott - That is true - the knowledge base really needs to include the part about the notebooks needing to be empty before you can drag the notebooks on top of each other to create a new stack.

Thank you for the information about searching. :)

Evernote would be just about perfect if I could organize like:

Stacks > Notebooks > then TABS for different subjects within the notebook :)

Hi,

I currently have no stacks and am using Evernote for mac Version 1.11.0.

I'd like to create some but where not able to do so.

1) On mac, I can't drag a notebook onto another. I tried to click on a notebook, but when I move my mouse, it just select the next one. When I right-click, I get almost the same as Sallysmith's ( without Remove from Stack, since I don't have stacks) :

New Notebook

Share Notebook

Rename Notebook

Delete Notebook

Sort by notebook name

Sort by note count

Export notes from "Follow up"

Nowhere it tells me about Stack.

2) I was able to create a stack on the online version, using the drag and drop feature, but the new stack doesn't appear on my Mac after the sync.

I'd really like to use this feature, could please tell me what I do wrong?

thanks in advance,
