Level 5* GrumpyMonkey 4,320 Posted May 28, 2012 Level 5* Share Posted May 28, 2012 I want to type macrons (ā, ī, ū, ē, ō) in Windows, but cannot. Do you know how? On the Mac, you just type alt+a and then the letter. With an external keyboard on the iPad and iPhone, it is the same. And, with the virtual keyboard on any device, holding down a vowel like "a" will bring up the option. On Windows, as far as I know, only Word works (Insert Symbol). In other words (pun intended), no global macron option. It's a small thing, but for me, it means the difference between using Mac or Windows. It's also not an Evernote-specific issue, but because most of my work is done in Evernote, it seems relevant to post here. Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 12,066 Posted May 28, 2012 Level 5* Share Posted May 28, 2012 A slightly sideways suggestion, but are there any specialised windows fonts that include Macrons? I seem to remember it should be possible to design your own font if there are no existing examples. All you have to do then is choose a few characters you don't want and replace them ! In Word, some fonts have the macrons, and you use insert symbol (I set a shortcut) to access them. So, the fonts are out there. Perhaps I could design my own by just copying (?) over these. A little beyond my current tech capabilities, and certainly time-consuming to overcome the learning curve, but an option to consider! Link to comment
spg SCOTT 736
Posted this elsewhere, but didn't see this thread. Posting here to keep the discussion on topic:GrumpyMonkey, I think you could do it with AHK, though you would have to write it yourself. You would also need the Unicode version of AHK_LI guess there are some other applications out there that could do it, what they are though, is beyond me... Link to comment

This will be a huge help. Thanks so much! Link to comment
