@ho.martin1234, there are a number of people here with a lot of knowledge who might be able to help you, but they need more information to give you that help.  To start:

  • What platform are you experiencing this on?  Windows, Mac, web client, Android, IOS?
  • What version of the app do you have installed?
  • When did you start to have this problem?  What changed when it started - a new device? an update?

If you provide that information, it is more likely that someone with expertise will respond and offer a few suggestions.

Probably your whole local database is a mess. Data structure was changed several times, all versions before 10.60 are deprecated.

Before trying to solve this issue, you better remove the whole install.

Log out of your account, quit the app (by the menu, not by hitting the X). Now use REVO Uninstaller to remove the EN install. If you don’t have it, get it for free on the internet.

Restart the PC. Install the app fresh from the EN website. Open, log in.

Now let the app running in the background. It will download a fresh copy from the cloud server. This can take a while.

@ho.martin1234, @PinkElephant is an expert, and I completely endorse his recommendation.  I would add one more thing, since it has been so long since you have updated.  Evernote is no longer supported on Windows XP. It really needs Windows 10 to run well.

Also, let me emphasize that the master copy of your data is on Evernote's servers, not on your local PC.  What Pink Elephant is suggesting is that the copy of your data on your PC has become corrupted and the new local client you installed is having trouble working with it which is causing the delays you are experiencing.  Although the cure that Pink Elephant is suggesting is to completely delete Evernote and all of your data from your local PC, you will not damage the master copy of your data on the Evernote server by doing this.  The new copy of Evernote that you install will make a new copy of your dataset on your local PC, and now your data will be free of any corruption that may have developed on your older copy.  As Pink Elephant mentioned, it can take a while for Evernote to make a new copy of your dataset on your PC, so I suggest leaving your PC running for a few days to give everything time to update.  You can use Evernote while the data is updating.  Evernote will be a little slower than normal (but much better than you have now!) while the update continues because, every time you ask for a note, Evernote will have to get it from the server instead of your local drive.  Or you could just use the web client during the update and leave the Windows program alone to do its thing.

Once you have this new copy of Evernote with a new copy of your data on your (hopefully) Windows 10 or newer system, the speed problem which you see will be cured.  There is no point in trying to find a different cause until you update your system.  And although we are users here and not Evernote support, we are familiar enough with other cases like this to be confident that an approach like this is also one of the first things that Evernote support would recommend.

Good luck,

Vinnie
