Highlighter/pen icon grayed out - how to highlight/unhighlight

I saved a clip in Evernote and somehow managed to highlight a portion of it - I want to delete that but the pen icon is grayed out. Also I'd like to highlight a DIFFERENT section and have same issue. Any help most appreciated!

Hi.  I'd imagine you'd need to go to the source and re-clip it correctly to get this sorted out,  but there is a possibility that if you click on the grey bar at the top of your clip (if there is one) you'll see a magic wand (really) - click that to make the clip editable...

Is it highlighted (permanently), or is it selected for editing ? On iOS this color appears on my devices to tell which text will be altered (copied, cut, overwritten by a paste, new font etc.).

Leaving the note and returning would in this case remove the highlighting.
