[Moved to Mac Forum] Open & Edit files from Notes Directly get not possible.

Recommended Posts

Sorry for posted in wrong forum!

Months ago, it still can open excel, PDF, or some other files directly from notes and edit.  After save, it will auto updated in the attached version of notes.

But now, don't know why, it have time limit.  Even saved the PDF or Excel a little bit time, it will not update to the note.

I found the reason is the temp file of note was change.  I check the properties of files between the file of editing, and the attachment open again within the note after a period of time, found that the temp file name was different.  This made the edited files saved to outer space after the evernote timely refresh.

I don't know why EN change the system used more than 10 years.  It only make everything bad.

I can't tell for sure with Excel, since I am not running any version of MS Office on my Mac.

I can tell for all other apps that I tested, in this case Preview for PDF, Numbers for Numbers spreadsheet and TextEdit for txt: When I select Open from a notes attachment, it opens in the related app. It will reflect all changes done in the app into the document view in EN, which usually takes a few seconds to show. So I add a markup in a PDF, and the same markup shows in the view of the attachment a little later. Same with adding some text in Textedit. In Numbers I can't see this because EN can't preview a numbers file, but the changes are there when I later open the document again.

To make sure changes were transferred, it is always possible to hit Save (cmd-S). When I close the window (cmd-W), the document is closed in the app, and all changes saved into to attachment in the note. Version history allows to go back to a prior version.

tl.dr: Can't reproduce the stated behavior on my Mac. Everything works nice and seamlessly. EN Mac 10.58.3, MacOS Ventura 13.4.
