EN adds http:// to links to local files

I am using version 10.46.7.

After a recent update, Evernote has added "http://" to any link to a local file. Previously, I linked to files on my hard drive and they have a link like /user/NAME/folder/document.docx. I could click on the link and it would open in Word and I could edit.

Now, all of my links to local files have "http://" in front of the local ink - "http:///user/NAME/folder/document.docx". This opens the default browser and obviously the file is not found. This has happened to all links to local files throughout Evernote.

I think this has been an issue since the arrival of Evernote v10 although I don't link to local files so can't be sure of the chronology. I do recall others reporting that they had to create a Windows shortcut and paste that into a note. @Mike P was the Wiz in this area. Perhaps he'll be along soon.

@agsteele is correct there was a problem with links to local files in earlier versions of EN. This could be circumvented by attaching a Windows shortcut to the note. I'm happy to say that the previous behaviour was reintroduced some time ago. The correct format for the link in Windows is:

file:///C:\Users\Mike\Desktop\plain_text.txt

I'm afraid I don't know what the correct format for Mac is

Thanks for the suggestion, Mike. This does work on Windows and for MacOS your comment reminded me of a utility called Hook that accomplishes a similar task. I replaced the links in Evernote with the Hook URL and it works perfectly. Thanks!
