Are frequent callouts to www.evernote[.]com/shard/s628/utility legitimate?

Our security team has noted that my version of Evernote

is making hundreds of callouts to  www.evernote[.]com/shard/s628/utility daily, even when the app is not running. Our security software has flaged this behavior as fraudulent. Can you please let me know why it is doing this? Is there a way to stop it? They have not yet asked me to stop using your product, but will have to if this issue is left unexplained.

Hi. We're a mainly user 2 user group so no definitive technical information here,  but it would not be unreasonable for an app which syncs all notes back to a server-based database to make frequent calls to it.  You may get more detail from https://twitter.com/evernotehelps

Uninstall and use the web client, if the IT of your employer is unhappy.

You just produce more headaches to yourself when trying to „solve“ this issue. Your employer has any right to make his company network secure. He can set the firewall as strict as he wishes, blacklist what he does not want to accept, or even „blacklist all“ and only allow white listed services.

When you install something that puts the network in danger (including permanent calls of a remote address that clog up the logs), you are the problem - not the software.

Just as a reminder: The web client counts as an additional device against your limit of 2 devices.
