Upload limit not resetting

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm having a strange issue with my Evernote for Windows installation. A few months ago, i reached the montly upload limit after uploading a couple of documents. So, as i've done before, I waited to next month to upload other documents. But it keeps saying that i've reached my upload limit. Why is it not resetting?

I've tried the following to solve this issue:

  • Wait, but its been a few months and don't want to wait anylonger
  • A read somewhere that documents over 20MB are not accepted, so ive made sure that the documents i'm uploading to not exceed that limit. I did found one larger document allready in one of my local notebooks but that has been there for years. So i'm assuming thats not the one causing issues, but removed it anyway. Just to be sure
  • Empty the import folders with the current cue of documents
  • reïnstalled evernote for Windows.

I'm using moslty local notebooks, some are in the cloud and an Evernote basic subscription.

Any ideas what I can do to fix this? Since i have a lot of notebooks and a lot of notes inside them, i would prefer to prevent starting over :)

Hi. First advice would be to check via Evernote.com in Settings > Account Summary > Usage to see what the server thinks is going on.  Beware if you're already using your account on more than one device - web access now counts as another device, so don't wind up locked out of access because of too many devices being active!

You may be aware that EN10 has happened,  and at the moment at least it appears Evernote are no longer supporting local notebooks.  If / when they decide to withdraw support for earlier versions of Evernote,  you'll need to move notebooks online or find another home for those notes.

If you've not logged out of or restarted Evernote recently it's worth File > Exiting the app,  powering your system down and restarting everything to force a re-handshake with the server.  The help pages below might suggest some other steps you could take...

Worst case scenario - there's currently a 40% discount deal on subscriptions;  upgrade for a month or two to get back in full control and then downgrade again...  Let us know how you get on!

Hi,

Thanks for responding quickly!

The web version shows that i'm not reaching my limit, so its in the Windows software itself if I understand correctly. Login out, rebooting and login in did not solve the issue.

I've read about the EN10 version, and are not happy about what i see. For now, i'm still stuck on 6. But you might have a valid point in suggesting that support will be dropped for the legacy version.

Since your  tips and trics did not work either, it might be worth looking for an alternative since i won't move certain files to the cloud due to their contents. Thanks for pointing out the discounts, its tempting but i might start looking for something else.

Whilst you're contemplating,  you could try the 'nuclear option' which is to completely uninstall and reinstall Evernote.  The 6.25 version is still available if you know where to look... http://cdn1.evernote.com/win6/public/Evernote_6.25.1.9091.exe

If you do that,  your online notes will be downloaded from the server,  but obviously the offline ones are purely on your computer.  If you haven't already done so I'd recommend that you get a notebook-by-notebook backup copy of all your notes (online and offline) anyway by exporting to ENEX.

I tried the reinstall option allready, before opening this topic. But thanks for helping nonetheless.

I just started making backups of all notes, better safe than sorry!

If you have a lot of notebooks and a lot of notes, you are probably out of the corridor for a free use of the service. This is especially an issue if you work with larger notes. There is a limit per note, plus the monthly limit.

If you now download a note with say 15MB, and make a small change to it (like correcting a typo), and close it, you already use 1/4 of your monthly quota. This is because the modified note will sync with the server, and this will count as upload, with the full size of the note. With a growing number of notes, you will use more and more of your limit by just using the data hoard you build for yourself.

Probably to solve your continuing issue, you should go Premium for at least one month. Or if you want to continue using the service without a permanent exercise in upload-mathematics, simply sign up for Premium, and be done.
