When you can make it disappear, you have to make it come back if needed. And you have to explain desperate users how to achieve it (read through the forum if you do not believe me). So why bother, the option will not bite you when you ignore it ... For many users, sharing is a most relevant function of Evernote. And you never know when it will come in handy for you to use as well. Link to comment

My set up is side list view with the left panel closed (ends up being a ribbon). In this view the shared with me icon does not appear. I like the extra real estate for the note list and the note content. FWIW. Link to comment
