    If by "screen captures" you mean the browser clipper,  try checking the settings.  Your options may depend on which browser you're using...

    I use the Google Chrome browser on my laptop. Under settings, I did not find anything that controls tags. I also scrolled through the advanced settings.

    I thought the solution might be with Extensions (at bottom of settings). But when I clicked on  the details for the Evernote Web Clipper extension (version 7.12.1), I did not see anything for tags.

    Switching from a HDD to a SSD is the one investment giving the most bang for a buck, especially on older PCs with a cluttered C-drive.

    Why is Evernote Support silent on the SSD solution?

    I can't find anything in their blogs that recommends swapping out a hard drive with a new SSD to solve the Not Responding problem. Even Google search can't find anything from an Evernote employee.

    EN performance is impacted by memory and disk type (HDD vs SSD).

    I've never seen a formal recommendation from Evernote to switch from a hard drive to a solid state drive to solve the "Not Responding" problem.

    The only solutions I have received from Support over the years is the standard  Evernote reply - do a complete uninstall, reinstall and sync. Even though I always send my Activity Log with my support request, they have never mentioned the problem is my memory or HDD.

  4. I started using Evernote as my second brain 11 years ago as my surrogate memory or answering the question “When did X happen?”

    Due to the number of notes, I do not use the phone version or the web version. Everything is done on the desktop version on my computer. Tags and a structured title are vital for locating specific notes.

    In 2014 I began encountering the dreaded "Evernote (not responding)" problem. To kill some time I would go to the kitchen and make a cup of coffee and return.

    After several unsuccessful Support requests, a higher level tech person suggested I split my notes into 2 Evernote accounts. Transferring notes from my primary account to my secondary account took several months due to the Basic version cap restriction.

    It's not as bad now, but I do still run into the Evernote (not responding) problem when I open Evernote in the morning. So my work-around solution is to keep the program running all day long and never shut it down.

    My secondary account (Basic Evernote) includes archived stuff and 10 years of political web clippings from a variety of sources.

    My Current Note Count:
    Premium account = 29,299 (1,500 tags)
    Basic account = 23,800

    I get confused - the new beta is (I think) not an option that appears in Settings,  it's an invitation that appears when you're using one of the other two.  This is how my options look...

    Yes, I had the same option when I tried the Beta. I had several problems with the Beta, so I went back to the Classic web.

    I do not consider either web version to be viable for power users with lots of notes and who use Evernote often throughout the day.

  6. Time to get a new computer. I think I know the answer, but wanted to get someone else's viewpoint.

    I've used Evernote Windows Desktop exclusively (55,000 notes) for many years.

    Would I be able to run Evernote Desktop on a new Google Chromebook?

    It appears everything is in the cloud and my only solution would be the Evernote web version (which would not be acceptable).

    Thank  you

  7. Just 5 days between the beta 1 Windows version and the full blown public release?

    * July 23 - Today we released Windows 6.20 beta 1.

    * July 28 - Let's update your app. A new version is available 6.20.2 Public (3008626)

    I am used to seeing Evernote generate some conversation and feedback as the beta versions are tested on and then updated with corrections.

    I realize some will think this is a can't win request. Too slow = complaints and now Too fast also generates concern. I prefer to have the heavy-weight users put a few weeks of time and effort into refining the betas so that the public version is rock solid.

    I may have to consider two accounts for performance reasons.

    Until then, I'm happier with all notes in a single account, and a switch (tag) to include/exclude archived notes.

    I moved from Minnesota to Maine 5 years ago. So all my Minnesota stuff is stored in the archived account. As time marches forward, I will start moving some of the Maine stuff. The Evernote basic maximum monthly transfer restriction is one reason that I try to move stuff every month. It also helps keep the premium account toned down to a manageable quantity. I don't have a pressing need for my heating bill (etc.) from 5 years ago, but it is nice to know I can find it if I need it.

  9. I've been using Evernote for 11 years and created over 54,000 notes.

    I have a paid PREMIUM and a free BASIC Evernote account.

    My old stuff (5 years old or older) eventually gets ARCHIVED to my basic account.

    My current stuff (29,000 notes) stays in my premium account

    Downgrading to a version that works better for you?

    I used to try to stay with a version that was 2 to 3 months old, but it got difficult remembering when to upgrade to a new level and still avoid the current version. So a few months ago, I bit the bullet and started upgrading when a new public version was released.

    So I'll probably do the full delete and reinstall this weekend.

  11. Just a rant - I know what the final solution will be. The infamous uninstall and reinstall of my 30,000 notes.

    Me: A couple of weeks ago, I upgraded my Evernote Windows to version 6.18.4.849 (308489) Public.

    Me: The program would randomly shut down with no warning and no error message a few times during the week. Evernote would not start up again unless I rebooted.

    Me: So I submitted a support ticket and requested that Evernote tech review my activity log first, before I resorted to the standard Evernote response (a complete uninstall / reinstall / resync).

    ES: Support responded with 4 bullet points, but no comment about my activity log

    * Sign out your Evernote account
    * Clear cache
    * Perform to reboot
    * Log back in

    ES: If you're unsuccessful, please attach the screen recording detailing the issue.

    ES: You can provide a screen recording using Jing, a free third-party application.

    Me: Alarm bells going off in my head. Did he read and understand my support request? I did tell him this was a random occurrence. And I noticed there is a warning on Jing's home page.
    "NOTE: Jing’s current video format (.swf) will no longer be supported by web browsers soon. You can still capture images with Jing, but if you need an all-in-one solution for image and video capture, we recommend trying Snagit."

    Me: Sounded fishy to me. I wondered if English was his native language. So I asked him what he meant by "Perform to reboot". (Was he using Google Translator to create his replies?)

    Me: He did not explain, but went in a different direction.

    ES: Glad you replied back, and sorry for the confusion it has caused you.

    ES: Can you confirm if you recently created a note with attachment?

    Me: He asked me to copy the content of each note into a new note, delete the original note, empty the trash and sync Evernote.

    Me: During the month of May, I created 218 notes. 159 of those notes have attachments. I asked him if he wants me to make copies of the 159 notes, and delete the 159 originals.

    Me: There has been no Evernote Support response yet.

    Not sure what would be more complicated about it:

    Search: Type first letter to run the search. Typing a 2nd letter will run search again. Typing a 3rd letter will run search again. Going to be an issue when I want to search for multiple terms - for example: created:20150101 -created:20150701 tag:receipt -tag:quicken-done

    Speed has always been a problem with Evernote. Support finally told me to create a 2nd account to spread out my data to address the issue.

    Evernote has made promises of major web rewrites in the past. I am a bit biased after not seeing the previously promised major improvements to the web version.

  13. After seeing the video, it tweaked my interest. I decided to look at the current web version. Same old variety of problems - such as where is the Created Date. Spent 5 minutes searching the help link, but came up with non-related issues.  The video leads me to believe the new web version is going to be more complicated. And too many conflicts with the Android version caused me to drop the smartphone version. So my Evernote status continues to be limited to my desktop computer for record keeping.  (approaching 50,000 notes split over two accounts)

    Web use is nowhere on my itinerary. And yes, this comment is on topic.

  14. I contacted Evernote support and they offered this solution.

    Please navigate to chrome://settings/content/cookies in your browser's URL bar and make sure that "Allow sites to save and read cookie data" is selected, and that "Block third party cookies" is not selected.

    I was blocking third party cookies. After I gave permission to permit third party cookies, the clipper started working again.

    IT BUGS ME that Evernote requires me to let other unknown companies track me with their own cookies
