Now I know why some users got offended.  Please can we stop wittering about subjects some of us clearly do not understand?

    • Since it seems to be important to some,  I'm a moderator on this forum having been a user for 15 or so years with 60,000+ notes and 400+ notebooks.
    • You can't have more than 1,000 notebooks,  it's a system limit.
    • You should not export more than one notebook at a time because the format does not capture notebook metadata.  If you export multiple notebooks,  you'll re-import to one notebook only.  It tends to lead to tears.
    • If you go to the Notebooks page you have an option to export one notebook at a time.  If you wish to do more there are several ways to do it.
    • As to Notejoy this page is rapdily becoming the forum that their site apparently lacks.  It seems a tad rude to hijack Evernote's forums in that way.  We're here for technical suggestions about Evernote features and a bit of ranting and gossip,  with the fundamental rule "please behave like a grown up."
    • As a moderator I do have the power to zap any posts that cross that line.
    • Please consider your next post carefully....

    From the Notebooks page:

Well there is one post you should definitely 'zap' as there is plenty of rudeness in it. I've requested a stop to the off topic replies so you and I are on the same page. At this point I'm ignoring all replies that are off topic to the original subject.

I appreciate your efforts in this thread that is 90 percent inaccurate tangents and having to explain and educate on why their suggestion doesn't apply, or it's telling me to search the forums which I've already done, or search google etc.... Now I appreciate the spirit of the help that is off topic, but really, I would rather get some on topic information about the actual subject of this thread than continue with this pile on with people being offended by the word "power user". Do I really need to sit here and listen to someone vent how they are offended by "power user". My gosh lets just move on and if there is anyone with some info about notejoy I'm all ears.

I've received a few private messages from very helpful users about notejoy and amplenote who have raised pros and cons and are helping me be aware of the benefits and detriments.  I'm very grateful for those messages, please keep them coming if you don't want to post publically and deal with all the negativity and defensiveness. Much appreciated. 👍

    Thank you.

  2. Thank you all, but if you have something to add about notejoy or any other options to Evernote please reply here, but for all the tangential stuff it's just a waste of time replying to a bunch of suggestions you've never actually applied to the situations being discussed. Test out your theories on a huge evernote stash before suggesting them as the wild goose chases are just a waste of time.

That is correct if you are selecting individual notes.  Instead, select the "notebook."  That will export the entire notebook and is not limited to 100.  Right mouse button on the notebook name in the left-hand pane.

That's even worse, since evernote doesn't allow you to select multiple notebooks to back up, can you image backing up 2000 individual notebooks one at a time?

I know you want to help, but as I've said, the experience the casual user has with Evernote is very different than the power user of Evernote, you just aren't dealing with the same numbers of notes and notebooks and don't know what you don't know.

  4. 1 minute ago, Jon/t said:

The 100 limit is ONLY for individually selected notes.

As @gazumped said navigate to the Notebooks view in the left menu, go to the far right and click the 3 dots and you can export an entire notebook. No limits.

That's even worse, since evernote doesn't allow you to select multiple notebooks to back up, can you image backing up 2000 individual notebooks one at a time?

No,  they haven't.  Go to the notebooks page,  click the three dots to the right and you can export THE WHOLE NOTEBOOK.  No restriction on numbers.

I wish you were right, but there is a reason I said, what I said.

My version limits your exports to 100 notes at a time, perhaps you've never tried to export over 100 notes?, or maybe you have some different version?

As I've said and irritated a few idiots here by using the word "Power user", if you're a light user of Evernote versus heavy user you probably have no complaints as you don't run into the same problems. Now I'm sure somebody will be offended by using the word "heavy user" 😄

Here is a screenshot of trying to export 1197 notes about Italy.

I circled at the top the number of notes - 1197, at the bottom you can see what happens when you try to export more than 100 notes - evernote selects the first 100 notes as it says in the window at the bottom "100 notes selected".  At the top in red a box with an exclamation point shows "You cannot select more than 100 notes".

This means I have to do 11 separate backups to back just this single stack. Now let's not even mention the nightmare of reconstituting a backup of enex files of thousands of notes since evernote doesn't retain any of the folder structure and you're manually recreating hundreds and hundreds of folders and using tags which you sure as hell had better of used or you're screwed, selecting and moving reconstituted notes back into your original file structure. 😵

    Let me explain somethings:

    1. You don't get to define a light user- the expression you fail to understand is PAYING CUSTOMER-PREMIUM. How I use it is none of your business.
    2. You don't get to decide if I have a complaint. That is my prerogative- as a paying customer trying to nurse a system along with software that has been cobbled by BS I have a right to complain when it is broken.
    3. As a "Power User" with "thousands of notes and notebooks" perhaps you should learn how to use EN and have considered the very real prospect of having to make backups- several suggestions have been made on the forum.
    4. I am not remotely interested in what you think I should do- unless you are part of the Bending Spoons team?

    Clear?

lol, wow get back on the meds, nobody wants to be your punching bag and recipient of your juvenile personal attacks

I sometimes think I'm caught in a time-warp since I re-hash a lot of explanations,  but I thought backups were at least fairly easy to accomplish.

    Use

    1. the notebooks tab (on desktop) use the three dots menu to export the notebook to ENEX (no limit on numbers)
    2. the Github process https://github.com/vzhd1701/evernote-backup
    3. Backupery
    4. a Legacy app and the various methods available there

If you have any computer experience you will know that backups are essential.

I handicapped myself by using a notebook structure - I have something like 420 notebooks,  so auto-backups are the only way to go.

If you're referring running some outside service for backup, that isn't something I would employ with Evernote. My backups need to be done within evernote and they have placed a limit on the number of notes you can back up at one instance now. It used to be that you could select 1000 notes and Evernote would break them up into individual enex files for you while it was exporting them, not anymore.

I'd not heard of it until seeing this thread. From the looks of it storage is limited to 20GB and that's on the most expensive plan which is only a couple of USD lower than EN.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the 20GB limit is something I have in for answers from their support right now. Preliminarily I was told the limit is on a "Library" which in Evernote talk would be a stack and you can have unlimited library, however, even with this work around this could affect the usefulness of the nested folders option, forcing out folders that should be deep down nested in a library out to become their own independent folder or "stack" which would defeat the usefulness of the nested folders option.

I'm surprised at this restriction too especially since they support video in their notes and this can add up fast. It only takes 200 100mb notes to fill this quota.

Whew! It's been awhile :)  If I recall correctly it was no tables, the export/backup was not great and I didn't like to do the hashtag "tag" name. Outside of that it just seemed "stale" to me with the slow development. The community was not big and I just didn't feel it would catch on anywhere.

Thank you for the feed back!

Apparently tables are coming according to their development schedule. Have not explored the export/backup yet but thanks for the reminder, very important part of all of this. Community is very small for a 6 year old product!

Syncing was good at NoteJoy, it was multiple other things that did not work for me. Speed wise, try Amplenote. If you like their philosophy, it's pretty solid.

    I will check it out.

What things didn't work for you, this is exactly what I'd like to know, personal experiences from users of the software 👍

I think there are much better options out there. I'm sticking with EN but I understand wanting to find an alternative.

What other options should I look at?

So far notejoy seems to be a direct copy of Evernote, (it looks like a screen grab of Evernote) but with many of the enhancements that evernote users have been requesting for years. Their syncing which has always been a problem in evernote is crazy fast. I made a change on the desktop and it was pushed to the phone app in less than 2 seconds.

I've looked at it in the past. Development is s-l-o-w. At the time it was only Sachin and his wife, not sure if that changed. I think there are much better options out there. I'm sticking with EN but I understand wanting to find an alternative.

According to what I've seen in their documentation of their development the last 2 years have been a steady upgrade in features. I think their strategy was to mine the Evernote forums for grievances and requested updates and implement them into notejoy making it an evernote on steriods.  I've been testing it out and nested notebooks are a godsend.

I have my notes spread over only a few notebooks and rely on tags so for me it is easy to simply right click and export notebook

If you're a light user of evernote you hardly have a complaint, power users with thousands of notes and notebooks have a very different experience.

1 Reliability= I back up enex files every day- just incase. Ddestinations Bear and Obsidian

Unfortunately, they removed that possibility through some of their updates for me. I have thousands of notes and the limitations on the back up process now would mean I would spend dozen upon dozens of hours a week doing backups. I've got major info backups accomplished but no way to keep everything backed up and up to date with the new version of Evernote, if they go down its going to be painful

You may have better luck having Notejoy questions answered on the Notejoy forms/website/whatever they have.

This is a user forum for Evernote so most of the chat is about EN itself and not always in-depth conversations about other apps.

Unfortunately they don't have a forum, they have a facebook page with little traffic, again why I'm posting here and a few other places to see what people think, so far it appears nobody has any experience but lots of really amazing advice like search google. 😄

Notejoy appears in discussions dealing with a whole range of titles but that discuss its benefits or challenges.  As I said, four screens worth where it appears.  I'm sure these other conversations will give you some additional help determining whether Notejoy is the option for you.

Is there some strange reason people want to argue reality here all the time? Why do you keep responding with the same thing? A search for Notejoy returns nothing of value, this is the only thread on this entire forum that even mentions notejoy in the title. With notejoy being basically a duplicate of Evernote but with all the features having been requested over the years including nested folders I wonder if any discussions of notejoy are being deleted? I know how to use the search function and have read the threads with some mention of it, thank you. There is a reason I'm asking specifically about the product. Again thanks but I know how to use the search function. 😉

Yes, as I said a search for "Notejoy" only shows this thread for any thread with Notejoy in the title and then there are a few mentions of it all in the same 3 or 4 threads. I don't see any specific discussions of notejoy via the search feature.

Please do a search of the forums for Notejoy. There are existing discussions with pros and cons where you can add on.

Can you direct me to them? A search for "Notejoy" only shows this thread for any thread with Notejoy in the title and then there are a few mentions of it all in the same 3 or 4 threads. I don't see any specific discussions of notejoy via the search feature

  19. Starting to get very nervous about Evernote's longevity, combined with the lack of feature sets that will never appear, raising of prices etc... looking at options out there. Notejoy seems to be evernote and then some, anything I'm missing?

Evernote supports storing screenshots or any other image in a note.  However, some users are having problems with some images not displaying.  This isn't widespread but a problem if it happens to affect you.

Don't troll this thread like PinkElephant trying to spread miss-information and marginalize users frustrations about a problem that has been going on for over 3 years and has litterally hundreds and hundreds or reported cases by users and multiple threads on this forum. If it's hapening to more than 3 people it's wide spread, this is happening to hundreds and hundreds of people.

If you don't have the issue, that is fine, what is the point of posting on a thread you aren't experiencing the issue?

  21. Sorry, you're confused. (yet again)

A roll back is not a download of an old app, it is a function in the software itself which you refer to as an 'app'.

In the menus of evernote would be a choice to roll back to previous version, this is how it works in any industry that offers a roll back option.

When you download the latest update and choose to update, the app saves a copy of the older version of the app and all your settings, and if you decide you don't like the new update (maybe because a horrible bug just came back yet again) you would open the menu in the software and click on "roll back to previous version." This is pretty much the industry standard process for maybe two decades or so when it comes to software that offers a roll back feature.

Why evernote being one of the buggiest softwares I've ever used doesn't provide this is pretty much on par with a lot of the strange process they employ so it's pretty much par for the course.

Also Evernote, not the playstore decides what app and what version they will offer for distribution. If everynote wanted to offer a version of evernote from 2011 for download through the app store it would just do so, it's not up to google playstore or apple to warehouse past versions of apps.
