I complained about this 2 years ago, and was one of the reasons i had to revert to v7.

Saved searches work.
Cmd-J produces a search result list, when the search option is selected. There is no „first note below the initial page“ - the whole first page is filled with matching notes.
You are expecting everything works like legacy. No, it doesn’t. V10 is an own app, in it‘s own right. Learn it, or forget it.
And you are right: I don’t care if you do follow the advise. If you have better ideas, share them.
The problem I'm seeing is that it 'highlights' the occurrences within the note (once you select a note from the list), but doesn't auto 'jump' to the FIRST occurrence, and if thats somewhere down in a long document, it becomes a whole secondary set of steps to then locate it. Even just a up/down arrow to step straight to and through the occurrences would help.

@pinkelephantJudging by your aggressive, not well read, not well thought out comments, and only concerned with yourself (Evernote), and what things look like to you, not the opinions or welfare of others, I'm convinced you're nothing but a high paid enforcer for Evernote.Anyways, this is NOT any better... in fact 10x worse! I can't use saved searches, and it STILL doesn't JUMP to the first occurrence, if it's below the first page. It just sits there looking stupid, waiting for me to do a bunch of stuff to still find it. v7 worked GREAT. Thus, I think it's a bug (or bad oversight) in v10. And, the search via Cmd+J is pulling up notes that don't even contain my search (amongst some that do)... more bugs...

For me (and from the picture posted) readability of v10 is better.
This has a lot to do with the tendency of legacy clients to press as much lines of text into a single screen as possible. Sometimes this is nice when searching for something, but in general it just feels like the former UI designer had a severe case of "horror vacui".

I know, but this is a HUGE regression and total pain in the arse when i do this 50x per day.
(And I SERIOUSLY do !!!)ALSO, to compound this, I have limited use of my hands, so each operation is difficult and takes 10x longer than it used to.
ALSO, doing this double search with multiple steps is very hard on Android and IOS devices
(I find v10 is terrible in so many ways compared to my LOVED v7)

When i do a search, then click on one of the results, it used to v7 open AND JUMP TO THE FIRST OCCURENCE.
Now (v10) I have to scroll down (EG 20 pages) and VISUALLY look for the first occurence.
It's very poor, and I don't want to yet do the same search all over again within the note.

Ya, that's true, I have v10 on my Dell tablet, and I get good search results... Yuk, guess I will need to go to v10 on the rest of my devices... The only good reason so far lol...

Sheesh, good to know... BUT NOT GOOD!!!
Maybe they could add a button "Next 128..." or the likes...
Thanks AGAIN!

Very interesting, thanks!
Any ideas why my Android search stops at 128 when I have WAY more, eg 432 Mac notes, for example?

You can't search the same database on 2 different Macs - search happens on the local database on the Mac, not on the cloud.
And this database in the much hyped legacy version can and does collect mistakes.
If I remember it correctly (I did not bother to install legacy on my new Mac), you need to hold down the option-key before opening the help menu. You then get an additional set of options, among them an option to recreate the search index. When you run it, it will take a while crunching through the database. At the end you have a fresh index. Do this on both Macs.
There are more troubleshooting options you can try.
Personally I think the new sync - when released - will eventually kill legacy, because it will change the underlying data structure. So better have your Plan B (I really don't care if it is v10 or something else) ready for execution, just in case.
I think you hit it... actually it's under Help(+alt)> Troubleshooting> and I wasn't aware that was there!... THANKS!!! I 'just' started it, and it's already picking up a lot more! (I wonder why, after completely uninstalling, and reinstalling, that it didn't build a new index!). What about ability to search for words in attached photos, pdf's, etc... does that happen locally too? Rebuilt by re-indexing? (Also, why would Android not be finding everything??)

Hi. You've used "netw" in two searches, and not (AFAICS) in the others, which means (I think) that you're not comparing like with like. Plus v7.14 is now Evernote Legacy - the latest version in v10, and there are different versions on the web, mobiles (depending on OS) and as installed apps. Legacy is not supported and you'll not be getting any fixes to perceived issues.
Can you explain the contraction? Are you looking for anything containing the word 'Network'? One of your larger searches includes several word options based on that root.
And - search doesn't have ESP. If you get anomalous results that's often because the data is not managed effectively. What about excluding unwanted results with "-<keyword>" or finding the largest return and tagging the notes that you actually need with <keyword(s)> so they're easily findable again?
Having a big database just means you spend a lot of time managing the content so it's easily and correctly parsed by searches. And a successful search (IMHO) is often one where you start out with a huge list of hits and exclude unwanted information with "-" (minus) on locations / keywords / dates... anything to narrow down the focus.
Thanks... I did use "netw" on all instances... my both macs have same version, pointing to same database, using same search term netw (well, it started by me searching for an "old" dos command starting "net use" got crazy differences with just "net", so i just added w for "network", and just stopped at netw when i decided to throw a request for help up here... I tried v10, a while back... pure *****, i lost all my fonts etc, and don't want a pile of owrk and frustration. I hope they never kill v7 (but I'm sure the great minds at EN have other ideas).

Why am i getting such wildly inconsistent results searching? As seen on screenshot, 4 different windows show different numbers of results for the same search.
I've been using EN for years, so I'm not new to this, and it's now to the point of ridiculous, untrustworthy...
Web login gets 421 occurrences of "netw" while my mac#3 gets 4, my Android gets 128, my other mac#2 gets 432.
(This is just one example... all searches are inconsistent)
Especially bad is my one mac showing only 4 results!!! I have tried uninstalling (completly) and reinstalling, etc.
(But even missing ONE note in a search is bad!!! So vital!!!
I'm using v7.14 on mac, and also most recent on Android).

OneNote can't hold a candle to Evernote, BUT, that being said, I'm very disappointed this IMPORTANT feature seems to be getting NO ATTENTION from the development team.
PLEASE IMPLEMENT THIS... OK, I'LL SAY IT AGAIN.... PLEASE!!!

I have a note that locks up, trying to go into edit of the note, and it hangs.
(well i actually have several, that hang on my mobile devices, ok on mac)
(a lot of them are scrapes of websites / web pages)...PLEASE allow me to set to read-only and "not" go into edit mode, no need to.
I imagine if it doesn't try to edit, the note might just easily be "read"

I also would love this feature. And don't get me started on my desire to have specific notebooks with encryption for all inside that notebook.
I completely understand OP's problem. He doesn't want to encrypt all other client info, but doesn't want it popping up. I also frequently have people looking over my shoulder at Evernote contents that I have pulled up for them. Tags don't solve the problem, because if I do a search -- which is very, very often -- items with other tags will show up. And I might need to find something that isn't tagged with X client's name, because it is associated with another project and doesn't carry that tag.
@Dan F -- Love this solution for some issues, like the specific one you mention. But wouldn't help me in the day to day, since there is stuff I do want regular access to -- including some of those times when someone is reading on with me -- but don't want to pop up when I perform a search. Hiding a picture in iPhoto is a perfect analogy.
The only workaround that helps me is encrypting those notes that I don't want to pop up. OP could encrypt all client files, and unencrypt the ones associated with the "Jones" tag when OP has meetings set with Jones. That keeps those contents out of the search list. (Not sure if this is only Premium enabled.) BUT, it's less than 100% ideal for me because that makes all those notes unsearchable and I would like to be able to search them when I choose to do so ... which brings me back to wanting a notebook in which everything is encrypted. In my dream world, that notebook can be included in a global search, or searched by itself, with the same encryption PW.
The "putting the note in the trash" works EXACTLY like i would like it to... with ONE EXCEPTION!
...Now the notes are IN THE TRASH (Along with all the OTHER trash... DUH!)I want to "HIDE" notes, NOT TRASH them! (and please block searching them too, ONLY "maybe" allow TAGGING)
I have confidential notes that i don't want people seeing, but need to frequently modify them, so having them in another EN account is useless...
PLEASE ADD THIS VALUABLE FEATURE!
This is NOT a dumb idea, it's something I've wished existed for a few years now!/f

@PinkElephant you are so into yourself it's rediculous! You have ZERO empathy for others, and I'm sure glad i don't live in your body, house, or city (and what country?). Others CAN be right, actually much more often than you think! Many things in v10 are BAD, and we've trusted and invested in EN for many years. They just needed to fix things BEFORE forcing us to move!
