I would like to know with what you are replacing Evernote. Legacy is great on my Macs bit the iPhone app is awful.

Well put and apt description of the problems many others are experiencing, including myself. Since this what I consider “debacle” with Evernote occurred, I have experienced Quickbooks Online move to a web app only, eliminating their desktop version. Dashlane, my password manager has done the same. Even while I run its Legacy version (yes they even call it Legacy just like Evernote), it too is slow and rife with a multitude of problems I did not experience before this web app migration. Dropbox also has some issues for me since they developed their web app but at least I can open and move docs quickly without using it if I choose to do so. The signals that providers are moving to what we deem extremely slow and clunky web apps are everywhere. The question in my mind now is can they quickly become as efficient as their former desktop apps? The answer remains to be seen. All we have is now and now is presenting lots of problems to end users in the way of impediments to efficient workflow. Evernote 10 isn’t even close to being as efficient as Legacy. I use both Mac and Windows computers syncing across them. When I took a MacBook Pro to my local Mac repair last week fir a small issue, I was informed they were going to stop getting trained on the new computers. The owner described the new iMac as a “giant iPad”. The Surface is an iteration of a tablet getting larger and larger for office use. This evolution in hardware seems to be relative to the evolution in software. The demand for super lightweight and thin portable devices is fueling it as well. It is a shrinking minority of people who see and experience the inefficiency of web apps including Google Docs and so many others. This is because the current majority of users have never experienced the efficiency that working with dedicated apps can create. I don’t see Evernote reverting to anything that resembles the Legacy version.. It has been too long and web apps are the trend. Like you, I have been a longtime user and manage many notebooks across two Premium accounts. I find others negatively critiquing other apps proposed as replacements for Evernote Legacy. What is the best replacement for Evernote? It is only a matter of time before we will be forced to migrate to something else. What will it be?

Completely agree! It appears after the amount of time that has passed that those whose workflow requires fast and nimble distribution of files will no longer be served by EN once Legacy no longer has full functionality for whatever reason(a). What is the solution? Competition does not seem capable-at least to tick all the boxes of how I have integrated EN with my business workflow. I use two separate Premium accounts, one business and one personal. Maybe it’s a multi app solution? Bo one has offered up a single app solution that would seamlessly replace our old friend.

I continue to be hopeful as well. Legacy version is not likely to be supported for an extended length of time. it is wise to have options in the event one needs then.

Thanks for the suggestions-and sorry I wasn't more clear. I use Evernote for the bulk of my organizational needs and for record keeping for both business and personal use (quite a lot of web clipping too). I have two Premium Accounts. My workflow is mostly filing and renaming scans and organizing them into notebooks for future use/reference. For my business, I create training tutorials that are shared in Evernote that include audio and video. We organize social media for the business in Evernote, keeping notebooks at hand that contain core information for pasting to the web site, social media, printers, etc. It has been a great thing up until the new version to have Evernote where "the rubber meets the road", so to speak. I use Dropbox for some overlapping record keeping and also for sharing with people more familiar with its interface. Adobe Creative Cloud has its own little niche, too. Evernote spoiled me. Having the ability to search all my notes in the granular way that they provide is not available on the other products I use. To do so very quickly, and then to lose that feature, a key component to my complaints. Lag time is a real bother for me. For those who haven't been using Evernote for very long and not knowing what it was like "before" may think it is fine. Dragging, dropping, filing, creating hash tags all very quickly within prior versions has kept me very organized and given me noticeably more free time. So, to replace the tasks and storage needs that Evernote has provided me for so long, I guess I am looking for the thing that the other services I listed don't provide. I will have a hard look at Joplin. Others have mentioned it as well. And, I think you are wise in suggesting spending some time with it. Thanks so much for your thoughts.

While I remain patient for another 90 days, I too realize that Legacy is not a permanent solution. What would you consider the best replacement for Evernote?

iOS is Apple’s mobile application for iPhone and iPad. Mac computers use the Mac OS software. The wish was for a Legacy for the now sluggish iOS mobile apps on the iPad and iPhone. The Mac version of Evernote 10 is also a huge problem for anyone desiring speed, efficiency, and reliability. Sadly, whomever told you Mac software runs smoothly was incorrect.

If you are looking for fast, reliable, basic functionality without the new bells and whistles, Legacy will run fine for you. I do think the latest version is "better" but it is not as solid and reliable as Legacy .... sadly....sigh....

The best thing to do now, at least in my opinion and with my experience, is to stick with Legacy. You can keep Evernote 10 and they will run side by side (though I believe you will use more hard drive space on your local files since two copies are made). I think we are trying to be as patient as possible although we are now approaching 3 months of Evernote 10 and features are being added but performance continues to be poor to awful. Time will tell if this is a permanent problem. If that proves to be the case, there are alternatives. As a long time user, I find this especially sad.

Good on you for bring so patient. For those of us who need and want to use Evernote as a reliable and efficient tool, Legacy is the way to go. We simply don’t have time in the middle of a workflow to quit and log back in just in an effort to use the “new” app. Why would we want to waste precious time when there is an alternative? I continue to patiently wait for something better to happen with Evernote 10 but frankly the lack of response to those of us who are unhappy with it is becoming concerning.

Make certain you are using the Legacy app. It will have a grey icon rather than the green icon from Evernote 10. The two versions can run side by side which can be confusing. The ribbon on the top of your screen should also say “Evernote Legacy”. It is not your hardware.

You are right but... I like to rename the PDFs' and look for the most efficient way to do it. I also use notebooks and need to distribute the notes to various notebooks. It is super easy in Scansnap Home to rename them and drop them in their respective notebooks-except no more. Scanning directly to Evernote Legacy ScanSnap Manager, cloud dump. if you will, results in that weird glitch in which the renamed PDF reverts back to its former name if the sync isn't "Just so"... Thanks so much for the reply. I guess patience is king in these trying days.

I can't resist the urge to jump in and complain once again. Joined Evernote 2010, I am a Premium member. I am limping along with Legacy on my mostly Mac computers. I say limping along because I am forced to use the new edition of Evernote when I need to drag and drop out of ScanSnap Home software. It won't work with Evernote Legacy and defaults to and opens Evernote 10. I get the pleasure of waiting FOREVER to move a file from my scanner to Evernote... unless I create a folder, drag and drop from ScanSnap home to it and then drag and drop from that folder to Evernote Legacy. Believe it or not, that is incredibly quicker than waiting on Evernote 10. Oh what sheer Joy. Note that this is not the Evernote Edition Scanner but a Fujitsu scanner nonetheless. Moving files remains sooooooo sloooooowwwww. I have also posted this in the slow performance thread.

Downloaded Evernote Legacy yesterday. It is indeed “snappy”. 10 needs to work out it’s kinks for those of us who like to work fast.

I went back to the Legacy app yesterday and it functions fine. I will be able to get my end of year business organized in a much faster timeline with it rather than 10. I will take a wait and see attitude to see if 10 actually survives and if so of it will work for my needs. I really hope it is either shelved or drastically improved.

Having the same problems with latency as you. Catalina 64G RAM. It’s not our systems, it’s the app. Lots of staring at spinning green circles while dragging and dropping. This app should have, as someone besides me suggested, offered as a public beta until the kinks got worked out. I’ve been with Evernote a long time and seen a few mistakes that required effort to tolerate but always felt they were trying. They are scrambling now but the timing couldn’t be worse. It’s the end if the year and we who use Evernote for a lot of our personal and business financial docs are utterly stunned at how much more time tasks we’ve been doing for literally years is going to take us thanks to this huge misstep. It is trying on the patience.

I have deleted and reinstalled at your recommendation. Also, restarted computer several times to see if that would help. Neither has speeded it up. There is a lot of latency when dragging and stopping notes-far from « snappy ». Moving notes, adding hashtags, renaming PDF’s is a slog with lots of spinning green circles to entertain me while waiting. After reading about other people’s issues and the complete loss of their workflows, I realize I am being a bit harsh in my criticism. I like to work super fast when organizing my notes and notebooks. That the new app can’t keep up is an inconvenience and really irritating. My hope is it will speed up soon. None of the options to replace Evernote I have looked at thus far appear to be any more efficient and all require a significant investment of precious time in order to migrate.

What are you using for organizing?

I too will jump in on this topic. I've been with Evernote for many years through thick and thin and generally felt through it all if I were patient, bugs and glitches would eventually resolve. While I like the "idea" of the new software version, the practicality of using it is painfully, achingly, slow. It is so slow that after I post here I am looking for some sort of alternative. Now is the time of year that I need to drill down and sort through end of year notes/receipts etc. on both my business and personal (Premium, I might add) accounts. While I love that PDF's are easier to rename, honestly that is about the only thing they got right as far as it affects my usage. I have spent the morning working at about 1/8th the speed I would normally use to accomplish the same tasks due to the HUGE latency and lag time in saving changes to or moving notes. I have blazing fast internet upload and download speeds, 64G RAM and I feel like I am on an ancient relic of a system. Time can not be made back when it is wasted and Evernote, you are indeed wasting mine. To say I am frustrated is an understatement.

My workaround is as follow: Import file to Evernote-by scan/email etc. sync Evernote rename file sync Evernote This usually works the first time around but sometimes takes a couple of tries. It is definitely something glitchy in the sync process. Most of my scans I now rename in Scansnap Home software after scanning with my Fujitsu Scansnap. I then can export the renamed file to Evernote. This is a much faster and more efficient workflow but you must have the scanner and its software to do it. Files that I email to Evernote obviously require the workaround.

I will try the sync and see if that works for me. It makes sense that it. Is a sync error or overlap in the sync. I often scan a number of docs and rename them quickly-perhaps too quickly.

I am having the same problem... in USA... English version... This problem seems to come and go and is worse some days than others. I too have found that clicking somewhere else will sometimes save the renamed PDF, but DEFINITELY not always. It is very frustrating and consumes valuable time. Please Evernote, fix this glitch!!
