NEWBIE With Dumb Question

Hello.  

I have been using Evernote on my Iphone for a year now.  Still discovering what it can do.  

I was reading a blog this morning about how to make checklists etc and watched some tutorials.  However, their screens do not look like mine.  My screen is basic (like wordpad) and their's looks like Microsoft word.  Is that an upgrade?  

I would like to use Evernote for more, but can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

To get more editing options, click on the list menu item at the bottom

The checkbox is the box with a checkmark

In addition to what @DTLow mentioned, the tutorials may be down level.
