But now very unhappy to find that they're for external keyboards only! Who on earth carries an external keyboard with them on the road? Link to comment

I disagree - iPads have an onscreen keyboard; they are quite useful without an external keyboard Desktop computers are not useful without external keyboard >>but really, *everyone* should carry an external keyboard, or have a keyboard case. The bluetooth keyboard on my Mac Mini also works on my iPad. I pack it if I know I'll be doing a lot of typing Link to comment
