Level 5* GrumpyMonkey 4,320 Posted July 25, 2014 Level 5* Posted July 25, 2014 As some of you may know, Apple has opened up their new Yosemite operating system to Mac users for beta testing. I would strongly recommend that you do not try it unless you have multiple backups and another machine to work on in case of a serious problem. In addition, you may not be able to get much help from Evernote support, because Yosemite is still in beta. One user has already reported a pretty important drawback to using Evernote with the Yosemite beta.https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/62180-spotlight-search/ If past precedent is any indication of future practices, Evernote developers will not be doing much to make the current version of the app function perfectly with each beta version. Partly, I suspect this is because the betas are a moving target and it would be a waste of time and resources to try and adapt the app to something that Apple is just going to change again in a few days. It is also possible that Evernote developers are working on an entirely new version of the app (this is baseless speculation on my part -- I have no inside knowledge), so they have no need to adjust the current one to Yosemite. This is unsolicited advice and you should feel free, of course, to be a guinea pig for Apple if you would like (it is a rare opportunity to work with the beta as a non-developer). Here are some tips from Macrumors about beta testing with Yosemite:http://www.macrumors.com/2014/07/24/os-x-yosemite-first-impressions/ Please do consider multiple backups, though, in order to avoid any trouble. Level 5* GrumpyMonkey 4,320 Posted July 25, 2014 Author Level 5* Posted July 25, 2014 Hey Grumpy, I'm not even a Mac user, but I *love* your unsolicited advice. It's thanks in large part to your posts here and on your blog that I finally figured out the basics of Evernote! (The very basic basics, but still...) So my vote, insomuch as it counts for diddly...by all means keep offering up unsolicited advice on any and all tech topics! You're too kind. Thanks for the words of encouragement. And, keep up the great work on the forums -- you've been a great help to a lot of people!
George Goodman 10 Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Grumpy, I second your message and thank you for putting it so clearly. I'm using Yosemite, but have created a separate partition of my disk to install it and am cross-saving (thanks Evernote and Dropbox) everything I change when in the Yosemite (beta) world. Be careful out there!
