I could use some help in how to proceed.

. I have a notebook with thousands of research notes and many tags. In fact, it is the interconnections that are  crucially important.  I want to start using the AI Search to move from research to narrative. I am afraid to do that without being sure I can get back to where I am if the AI approach doesn’t work out.  Can I duplicate the notebook and play with AI without with making an omlet that can’t be unscrambled

AI search is only a search mode.  It will not affect your notes.  If it doesn't work out, you can return to the traditional search methods.

AI search will only take effect on a few notes, that have been selected before by a conventional search. There is little danger that a large part of your account will be subjected to AI scrutiny.
