My account has been deactivated without warning

Recommended Posts

My account has been deactivated. With warning and certainly not anything to do with any of my actions.

It tells me this when I try to sign in (via the desktop app or online), then offers me the chance to reactivate. I enter my email address but then get this:

Email address is not associated with an Evernote account. Would you like to create a new account?

I know this group is not for technical support (I have opened a ticket), but has anyone else experienced this and managed to get Evernote to fix it? It all feels very ominous.

Thanks.

It’s often related to a typo in the mail address. Did you enter it by hand, or copied from a password manager or similar.

Thanks, PinkElephant.

Typed and copied numerous times in different browsers. Always the same result.

Ok, my experience has been that sometime when copying, it goes bad.

In this case you will likely need support - we are other users here and can’t solve account issues.

They currently need several days to answer.

Thank you! I'll report back with an update on what happens. Fingers crossed.

Said I would report back. Finally got this resolved. Seems like the main reason that they deactivated the account is that they spotted a script that was accessing a lot of my notes. That's because I use the Zapier integration to auto post selected notes to social media and other places. They have asked me to disable this, despite me pointing out that they promote the use of Zapier on their own site. Anywyay, that's another battle. Thanks again, PinkElephant, for your responses.

@andyhamf Did it take 4 weeks to get a response? We have the same issue and have received no response on multiple tickets? Extremely frustrating.

Hi, betterman.

Not quite as bad as that, but I did harrass them in a number of ways (not suggesting that as a course of action, obviously). The first couple of responses didn't really read the detail I had sent them and were answering the wrong question, which was obviously more annoying. If, like me, you were using any scripts or automation service (Zapier in my instance; others are available!), I would recommend highlighting that in your comms with them, as it might lead more quickly to the right person seeing it.

If I can offer any crumb of comfort, it is that my account and all of my notes were still intact, and are now available again. It was deactivated by them manually, rather than lost in some sort of data migration exercise (which was my main worry when faced with the wall of silence).

Obviously a little worrying that the person I was in contact with had zero understanding of Zapier (which is advertised as a suggested partner feature on their own website), so they are making decisions on partial information.

I've been using Evernote for as long as I can remember, and have built it into so many of my systems, so I'm minded to stay with them in the hope that this is a bump in the road. Is anyone here moving to another service. If so, which? TBH, I haven't found one that matches up!
